Post-Game Talk: End of the Shanascam? | Leafs Blown Out at Home Again

Someone actually threw beer onto the Leaf's bench. It was ugly. Should have given the officials those shovels to skate with to pick up all the debris during the play. Marner nearly got draped by a jersey on his final shift.

Shanny and co rushed the rebuild. The fans are as bipolar as management. They all begged for a rebuild and as soon as they looked like they were going to the playoffs they went all in - every single year. They even admitted to rushing it at the time and justified "accelerating" it. There were some of us here who said no it's not right, we need to be patient and keep building but the fans once again bought all the hype and forgot the principles they cried for, as did management.

Should have traded jvr and Bozak on expiring deals at the deadline.
Shouldn't have traded two seconds for Boyle.
Shouldn't have signed Tavares.
Shouldn't have signed a player like Marleau that early.

I personally was against each of these moves on my old account. So were some others on this forum but they were a small minority.

But the Leafs can't delay gratification. Greed. This fanbase doesn't ever deserve another rebuild because they can't handle it.
And they’ve done this many times before and it’s always backfired on them. Shanny knew this and still f….ed it up.

Can you please explain how this is the fault of the Leafs' forwards and it is not system related?

You must have a good answer other than "I don't like what you post"...
What's that got to do with anything? It doesn't have to be the forwards or the systems fault. The poster you replied to said it was the forwards fault for some reason so you follow that up by doing your usual shot at Berubes system by saying it's the systems fault. Neither makes sense. It's just other teams finish their checks always against our defence no matter what and they hit hard and not just bump into them to get their hit numbers up. Not really a secret that finishing your checks is gonna wear them down and gas them out.

It is the slow D and the system they play, 100%.

How does this make sense? It's likely the system because when other teams dump and chase they always finish their checks on the defenders retrieving the pucks? I get that it's your thing since Dubas and Keefe were canned to just trash Tre and Berube in every thread whether it's a passive aggressive comment or just very blatant and then act like you weren't, but this is reaching a little too much.
I'm not a big Keefe or dubas but it is a system issue if your d are eating so many hits to break dump ins and work up the break out up the ice.

Part of it is not effectively utilizing picks like the senators and panthers did. Maybe the leafs are gun shy on this because of weird penalties called on them in the past but ive watched a ton of hockey from other teams and see these soft chips and interference slow down the oncoming attackers on the forecheck numerous times, florida was doing it unabated to the leafs. that's an adjustment that needs to be made.

Meh.

As has been proven many times over in this league, if a team wants to move on from a player with a NMC, they will. Countless times we hear how a contract is immovable, yet they prove to not be.

Like, if for instance Vancouver or Seattle agreed to a trade, you don't think he'd agree, considering where he is from?

Maybe not, he grew up a Leaf fan and wasn't just saying that.

Just because he grew up there doesn't mean he wants to play ther

At least Tavares seems to not be learning lessons anymore and is taking some accountability

unless i missed it i have no idea where Johnston gets Tavares takes personally accountability , during his interview last night it was endlessly we weren't good enough except once when he said ''you take responsibility personally and as well as a team" which is no where close to JT singling himself out

lol didnt the media crucify Sundin all the time here?

Yes and he still had better showings than this core and is now revered despite winning Jack-squat.

That’s the gig though when you play in a major market where your particular sport is #1. The vast majority of athletes worldwide strive to win on the biggest stages and embrace the pressure that comes with being a member of a massive franchise. Only in hockey do the players go out of their way to be as anonymous as possible and loathe being perceived.

“Oh no! I play in a market where I’m not an afterthought! It’s so terrible that I’m making millions of dollars and have a fawning public just for playing a game. Woe is me!”

9 years of dead cap? And the worst of the dead cap in in the few years we have left of matthews
I'm not advocating for a Rielly buyout given his contract structure but:

1) Cap is rising rapidly
2) Matthews' game is declining like his hairline
3) It is abundantly clear from his stint as Captain that Matthews should be on borrowed time here, at best
4) We don't have a window anymore, its a retool until we have the opportunity to rebuild, this core will never win anything as constructed

Doesn't this also potentially illustrate how effective Florida is at dumping it in and finishing their checks?

I posted last week that Florida dumps the puck in more than anyone and that forces defenders into retrieving tons of pucks under a fast, heavy forecheck and are bound to getting hit alot.

A team that is always trying clean zone entries and not dumping as much, in theory wouldn't be finishing as many checks on defenders.

Do we have the hits taken stat from both series? Would like to see the potential difference with how much our defense took hits from Ott vs FLA.
