Post-Game Talk: End of the Shanascam? | Leafs Blown Out at Home Again

Who did Knies and Patches play with the entire playoffs? On lines by themselves? Playing in the top 6 beside your team best players isn't "Depth" they are expected to chip in.. Domi was the only other forward that gave us any sort of production, while being a complete liability in his own end.

800k salary Jonah Gadjovich on the panthers chipped in twice.... He makes no money and contributed massive goals for their team in Game 3 and 7.

That 800k produced more then Jankrok,Laughton,McMann,Lortentz,Kampf,Holmberg.

Also produced more goals then Matthews + Marner as well lol
Patch was expected to chip in? He makes league minimum, so does Knies. What does the core 4 need , 4, maybe 5 league minimum guys scoring to carry them? THEY HAD 1 GOAL COLLECTIVELY IN 4 GAMES. Like WTF are we talking about here. Holy shit it boggles my mind that people are talking about the depth when $45MM divided between 4 players gets you 1 goal in the biggest games of the year.

All those guys you listed are trash I agree. Once Marner and JT are gone they all be regulated to the fourth line or in the press box as we will build a better balanced team with less scrubs who have 0 offensive capabilities.

He is defeated, he sold his soul and management no doubt told them not to say anything bad about the tik tok losers we have for players.

This is him some time ago

Chief was put under……….

I agree, I think Dubas was canned for wanting to trade Marner in 2023 and I think that was the move Dubas wanted to go over Shanahans head to make.
It might have had to do with them wanting to re-sign Matthews that summer. Trading Mitch before his NMC kicked in was the right thing to do but could Matthews have vetoed it ?

You know Toronto sports is doomed whenever the Leafs are at the top. That's the #1 sign. Right now They are the best of a bad bunch by default

Leafs are perennial playoff chokers despite their talent. They are jokes. Regular season wonders.
Raptors suck and are clueless about their future. No sign of playoffs for a while.
Jays suck and are boring/maddening to follow. No hope and future.
One would think this type of consistent failure would humble these arrogant pricks, but their obtuse view of reality is incredible……..

What if MM is willing to sign for 8mil for 2-3yrs with the Leafs and then cash out when the cap really jump in a few years with Leafs or another team.

Would he receives less criticism?
You’re living in a dream world where Marner all of a sudden cares more about the team than his bank account. I personally don’t want him back because it doesn’t work. I don’t even care if he has success somewhere else. The Leafs can’t continue to count on players who can’t get it done in Toronto.

The core 5 and Woll are all lacking three key factors for success in the playoffs and it pretty well sums up what they are:

No Heart
No Brains
No Balls

You can't win without these three things.

Cause Leafs give em advert sponsorship deals which pay da boys real well .. even guys like Rielly can make an additional 1-2M per .. anywhere else they make like $100K per

This surely will offset the state income tax and warm weather of other cities.

Also, Canada sucks for people with money.

I just watched all of the goals. He should have stopped 2 of the 5 for sure. I'd got so far as to say you'd like at least one save on the other two. I stated in the GDT that they should have pulled Woll after the 2nd, just to give a different look. He's not the sole or the biggest reason they lost tonight, but he played a fair part in our demise.
As soon as they scored the first goal I said that we were done. I knew it was a shot he should have stopped and it kind of started the "Here we go again" thoughts on the bench. The problem IMO over the years is nobody is capable of raising their compete level when needed. They only won game 6 because FLA expected us to totally lie down and didn't give 100%. Once they give their 100% we can't go up another level. It's really simple unfortunately.

Agreed. There's no salvaging this anymore.

Fight to keep our picks as low as possible for the next two drafts, making smart trades and signings along the way. Recoup what we can.

Then we enter rebuild mode.

Shanny bet everything on this core and lost.

McDavid signing here is our only hope. That ain't much of a hope.
Well said.

In our heart of hearts, it's over and I think we all know that.

My dear old Pappy always said, "Don't blame the lousy employee, blame the jerk that hired him." Seriously, if you had no talent and some idiot was willing tp give you $16 million would you say no? It's been management, management, management. Ya, Dubas is gone. The word is Leafs still wanted him but he managed to hose Pitt better. The Board blew it with Shanahan. It was apparent years ago that his plan was flawed. It is true Leafs went out and signed a bunch of very talented individuals but that does not equate to a team. The Leafs are a great regular season performer but that means nothing in the playoffs. None of the 4 division winners have made it to the Conference Final.

So, next steps? Massive changes are needed and based on Pappy's theory, I have little hope for the future. The Board seems to actively search out those with less than stellar abilities. Now comes Keith Pelley. All I know about him is that he helped broker the awful NHL deal for Rogers and oversaw the 'new look' Hockey Night in Canada. I am unimpressed. Time will tell but right now, for me, Edmonton is Canada's team.

"Elbows Up!"

So you get rid of Shanny and then what? Remember where we were before, “leaf fans could never sustain a rebuild”. He traded away everyone and they bottomed out.

Where he went wrong was firing Babcock. Sorry guys, shows how what coddling has done to these guys. The other was Dubas. He was useless, wasted assets. Say what you want but Hunter, both of them, have the Knights humming every year. I think doing that in junior is far more difficult with the turnover.

So now what. You let him go who walks in? What’s the philosophy? Do you get a tried a true like Rutherford or do you go young? I know what I would do. I’d drive the 401 and go see Mark and put a cheque in front of him and say how much to be president and wouldn’t that be ironic. He takes over the position of the guy that never chose him. Then ask him who he wants as an assistant and go get that person. To me with him, Treliving and Berube they will figure it out.

theres a reason people wanted morgan to be captain a few years back. but at the end of the day hes a great person who is just as big of a problem as the other 4 on the ice in big situations. i wish he wasnt because i love the guy.

he single handedly cost us game 3 and was probably the worst leaf on the ice this game as well imo.
Nice guy Morgan doesn’t hate to lose. The team needs more pricks and fewer nice guys on the ice.

Another thing driving me mental after this loss, all the nhlers (Tkachuk, Marchand, Cooper, Maurice etc) always commenting on how hard it is for the Leafs to play in Toronto because of all the pressure and they’d be “a great team if they weren’t in Toronto”. Absolutely utter horse poop. The fan base has stuck with the team paying more than any other fan base after going through the longest cup drought in nhl, a period of non playoff absolute garbage from 2004-2016, an “it was 4-1” embarrassment, to a few more years of garbage, to finally some hope with Matthews/Marner/Willie only to have them crap the bed for a decade. So get lost with all the “it’s the fans fault” garbage. We’re the most loyal fanbase in sports.
