Post-Game Talk: End of the Shanascam? | Leafs Blown Out at Home Again

About right, I knew Mitch specifically wouldn't show up. He hasn't had a good game all series, garbage playoffs for him. Sort of surprised Tavares played so poorly.

I like the feeling after this loss though. Everybody seems to think and believe they are finally getting rid of some of the core.

Woll didn't play well at all in these playoffs, but he's good in his role as a 35 game backup.

Knies absolutely needs to be re-signed.

Robertson's probably gone

Reilly needs to be traded badly as well, he was the weak link in the defence core in the playoffs.

As the guys on the Fan 590 said this morning, the Leafs kept serving spoiled milk. The sad thing is this passionate fan base kept slopping it up.
And then the fan base - after enduring a decade of this utter dross - finally snaps and gets raked over the coals by ignorant degenerates who either hate the Leafs or know absolutely nothing about the history of this club.

I live in Boston.

The fans there would NEVER, EVER, EVER tolerate the past 9 years like Toronto fans have.

It's not THAT the Leafs lose. It's HOW they lose, and HOW they behave, that would NEVER be tolerated in Boston.
my post wasn’t meant to be a counter argument in any way. I agree 100% that Bruins fans wouldn’t put up with this.

I was just highlighting the difference between Bruins and Leafs management with regards to tolerating bullshit.

I can't imagine what that had been like had a teammate said something like that to Michael Jordan, or someone like that, back in the day. You'd be in a f***ing body bag.
Or Mark Messier or Wendel Clark or Doug Gilmour or Darryl Sittler. Real leaders who led on the ice. Not selfish, over entitled, overpaid, gutless bums.

I still don't think that is the issue, it's a complete false premise to draw this conclusion. If those four players then go out and are the best players on the ice, there shouldn't be anything wrong with that. It's when those four players underperform so badly when it counts, that is the problem.

Marner six games sevens.... -7, two points
four points in nine games sixes
five points in eleven games fives

Matthews, 3 assists, no goals, in six games sevens
six goals, no assists in eight game sixes
six points in ten game fives (none in the last three years)

Particularly in games sevens, your highest paid players, need to be dominating games. They are paid to be elite players, and they needed to be elite when it counts. five points, in twelve games sevens played, between these two. It doesn't matter how much we paid them, or anyone else, if your best players are complete no shows, it isn't going to matter at all.

If it was proven, that the four highest players on the team, performed to expectations, based on these salaries, and the rest of the team let them down.. and the team lost because the rest of the team didn't score... while these guys were absolute forces... I would agree... but that's not what has happened here. This team isn't losing because they can't afford depth, this team is losing because those guys who are paid to perform, don't when it counts. It isn't the salary structure, it's that they've bet that on players who don't perform when it counts.

These guys aren't winners... that's all there is to it.
Here is what is missing in this comment, and also the views of former players and the media. There is undeniable truth that the Core Four don't step up. But this team also has the worst income inequality ratio in the NHL, and you need to have real depth support at forward to take the pressure off the Core Four. Look at the Panthers: Barkov and Tkachuk did nothing. But 12 different other people scored in this playoff. So this idea that the big four have to step up is an illusion. They can't, because other teams know they just have to stop those guys. Granted, these guys will never step up. But I disagree that you don't need much stronger scoring depth.

Woll was mind numbingly bad this series.

If you ignore his shutout, he allowed 23 goals in 5.5 games. Will be kind and round that up to 6 games. That's a GAA of 3.83.

You might a little too excited this morning.
This is probably his favorite day of the year.

No I wasn't arguing with you, trust me, I was just adding my own opinion. You're good.

Nah it'll be something else, he's too sneaky to pull the same personality again.
Well it was his unwarranted optimism that infuriated me, if that’s gone no one will know who he is, and he claimed to be a lawyer no less, never knew a lawyer who wasn’t overly guarded in the optimism department……..

Yup, this is bullshit and Maurice knows it. Winning teams create their own luck/bounces.
Opposing coaches should keep their mouths shut and just talk about their own team’s play. Trolling Leaf fans is about as low as you can go after kicking their teams butt for the ninth straight year.

Hope you like cricket or soccer!
Am I the only one that literally doesn't understand cricket at a fundamental level?

To me it's the Nail Yakupov of sports, everyone's just running around and doing random shit that I don't understand lmao.

Am I crazy? You guys lost a ton of players to injuries, endured a ton of dirty hits including one that concussed your starter, and dragged the series to seven games against the defending Stanley cup champions. Obviously disappointing still but I don't see how this is some colossal failure.

Matthews isn't the player who was still on his upward curve and in his prime as late as the end of 2023-24. You can try to build around him but the way he's played all year we are probably just throwing good assets away in a panic there's nothing else.

Assets need to be cycled out and we need a retool.
I'm in for a clean'em out total rebuild with a new President hired from a franchise that regularly cycles to the top, then is bad for a few years, then ramps back up, etc. Like Carolina or LA for example.

In a vacuum this loss is not as terrible as some of the others. The thing is its year 9 of this, stack it all together and its not good.

If the opposing coach needs to come out to defend these sorry sacks of overpaid crap...

It sickens me that the entire f***in league rushes to their defense.

Meaning. I’m a great coach who made my team even better.

You've got to get your shit together.

This team did ok. I don't think they underachieved this playoffs. This is who they are. Perhaps things might have been different if Stolarz was healthy and same goes for Matthews.

I’m not sure what TOR will look like next season, but they still have a lot of players under contact.
Step away from the pipe Ian……….

Exactly. It's disappointing, but this is not the time to gut this team. Toronto did ok. I just don't think they're good enough yet to get 16 wins in the playoffs.

There's will be some changes, but look at all the good players returning next season. They'll be ok.
