Post-Game Talk: End of the Shanascam? | Leafs Blown Out at Home Again

I think Dubas created the monster, they seemed good under granpa Lou’s short leash……..
They were spoiled under Dubas and idiotic signings screwed the financial viability of the squad. They also caved to the kids' every demand by handing idiotic NMC/NTCs with no repercussions or concessions. But this is what happens when you head the reins to a complete rookie GM who is learning on the job. Dubas could be a complete whiz kid with stats or technocratic affairs (also debatable), but lacked basic managerial and planning abilities that often only come with time and experience.

I saw it the above the time in my previous roles as a technical leader in a BigTech firm - why some divisions and departments failed to launch a successful product in spite of having 20+ MIT PhD whiz kids build the coolest thing since sliced bread. It was because they were led by a product/engineering leader with 3 PhDs who they hired from outside, was featured in Forbes 30 Under 30 BS, but had zero relevant prior commercial experience. It's the same in this scenario with the Leafs. Had they just stuck with more veteran hires (LL, Mark Hunter, etc.) or anyone of that ilk, they would have been much further along.

I also think that this is even more crucial when under the pressure cooker of the Toronto Maple Leafs. You could get away with it (maybe) if you were running the Winnipeg Jets or Nashville Predators but definitely not in the biggest hockey market in the world.

No first round pick for the next 3 drafts.
If we let that guide our decision making, then we deserve what we have coming to us in Game 7 next year, and the years following.

Every year this 100 point regular season gets management's hopes up and we spend the assets to "Go all in". Every single f***ing year, it's the exact reason we don't have any draft picks for the next few years.

No more. These guys are fired. Boston can pick Hougie Damilton and Carolina can draft Jeth Sarvis, it doesn't matter. Our team has no dignity left and running scared from draft board value is just going to make the problem worse (if that's even imagineable).

We went all in. We got called on the bluff and we lost. We have nothing left, we're out of the game. Tear it down. Tear it all down before you bet a night with your wife on the next hand.

Auston Matthews is a generational passenger.

That's all he ever will be. There's no dog in him except at a negotiation table. None.

All aboard!

I think if they win the cup that actually increases the odds he’ll leave. He would have accomplished what he wanted to in Edmonton. I think McDavid will think about coming home, we all know he wants to. July - September will be important to watch to see if he signs
no chance McDavid's coming to Toronto.............it's like believing the Leafs will win a Game 7. It's a nice little fantasy, but nothing more

If the opposing coach needs to come out to defend these sorry sacks of overpaid crap...

It sickens me that the entire f***in league rushes to their defense.

How else do you explain going from a 5 game series two years ago to a 7 game series?

Do you say your team got worse or there's got better? He's not rushing to our defense, it's a self serving compliment to his own team because he can't say his team is now worse.

Where to begin, or end...... Lucy and the football every year, convincing Charlie Brown to try and kick it, before she pulls it away ... at the last moment.

Going off the board here, while also agreeing with most of what I see here. Sorry, but the defense is not as good as people are claiming. Twice in the last three games, at a crucial moment, a Leafs defenseman takes the other guy completely and leaves a wide open lane for the puck carrier to come and score. McCabe and last night, Carlo. In both cases, there was already someone on the other guy. Are these people stupid? We all know you play a 2-ON-1 between the two players, forcing one guy more outside while keeping your stick in play for a cross-ice pass. WTF? Then there is Tanev with some of the weakest clearing passes I have ever seen.

The defense just fell apart last night, let's be clear. Guys left alone in front. Losing puck battles. Dumb clearing passes. Overwhelmed -- just like past defense corps that were supposed to be worse. OEL and Benoit our best pair, literally. Rielly has to go.

Then there is Woll. I called him a head case earlier in the year, and I stand by it. Why wasn't Stolarz in there? Why was he on the bench? Woll changes from moment to moment. Now great, seconds later, completely lost. We won't win with him either.

Too many changes to think about. But, as a start, in order to get a stronger third line, we need to disperse both Matthews and Marner, and use the 26 million to sign or bring in by trade 4-5 good forwards.

And what is with Matthews? Passengers? Look to thyself, sayeth the Lord. An absolutely bizarre comment from someone who has been a passenger every playoff. I think it reflects the attitude problem on this team.

Dead wood at forward? Holmberg, Jarnkrok, Robertson, Yes Domi (8 goals at 3rd line centre), etc, etc., etc. Deeper team than the past? Totally delusional thinking. They are weaker at forward than when they had Kadri, Hyman, Brown, Kapanen, Jonsson as their depth.

We traded for Carlo and the disappointing Laughton. They traded for Brad Marchand and Seth Jones. See a difference here? We are never ambitious enough, never make the bold move. Stuck in this ridiculous narrative we can't get out of.

Cause and effect buddy, cause and effect……..
Wow that guys got real problems.
I was just embarrassed by losing 6 straight 1st rounds, losing to Zamboni drivers, blowing 3-1 series leads against Montreal, losing a play in series to Columbus and getting absolutely destroyed in 2 home games to lose the game 7 series. But that jersey tossing…yikes.

Yeah, but the Leafs did avoid the reverse sweep, something to build off?

If we move from any or all of the core 4 I will really lose my shit if anyone tries to play the "leafs fans quit on player xyz" or "didn't treat them well". 9 years to get it done. And by get it done, I don't even mean win the cup (which is the actual goal here) but just show up and win a game 7 and improve each year.

Who else gets 9 years of chances in their job? Anyone?
Businesses make money, 9 seasons of playoff hockey is good business. There's a chance without Marner we don't make the playoffs, the guys making the decisions won't like.to hear that.

Meh, we said that about John Tavares and alas he came. If the oilers win I have McDavid signing here at about a 90% chance. He’ll be open to a new challenge after giving Edmonton a cup.

If McDavid can win in Toronto his legacy would be through the roof

More importantly, Bruins MANAGEMENT didn’t put up with it. And by all accounts, players loved it there. It wasn’t some boot camp operation.
I live in Boston.

The fans there would NEVER, EVER, EVER tolerate the past 9 years like Toronto fans have.

It's not THAT the Leafs lose. It's HOW they lose, and HOW they behave, that would NEVER be tolerated in Boston.

To many passengers? MF when you take all the money and driving luxury vehicles you're getting people who take public transportation as your coworkers.

That was the best part about the comment. I just sat there and laughed. Then Mitch agrees with him and he was the worst passenger of them all and it wasn't close! Mitch did nothing physically to elevate the team against a team that was motivated and pressing.

Both hilarious and disgusting
