If they can't find the right pieces on day 1, then they should sell off players. Day 2 will be too late.

If they don't replace one of their top 3 players, it isn't going to be better next season.

The only asset they will have is Cap Space, and if they aren't using that what is the point of having a GM?

I’d rather watch the team play to their potential and not make the playoffs than watch this another loop of the quit porn we’ve had to watch for the last seven years. If nothing changes or those changes are so insignificant I’ll be jumping ship. I can’t do this anymore……..

Bennett, Marchant, Tanev, Burns, Ekblad are all players I’d look at if they make it to free agency…….

Short term thinking was the exact thing that lead this team to being a bottom feeder from 2004-2016. Was also the main point Shanahan mentioned needing to be fixed when he got here.

This is the one reason I hope Dallas beats Edmonton. If they lose, McDavid may increase the chance of him becoming available in a years time.

Let's say Leafs sign JT to a friendly discount, they bump him to the 3rd Line, they find a legitimate 2nd Line Centre this offseason (who or how is the question). They then pick up McDavid in a years time, bump JT to the 4th Line.

They would have as strong a team at centre as any in NHL history and still have their defense in place (hopefully with a replacement for Reilly?).

It would all be about having in place strong wingers for the top six with Nylander and Knies already in place.

It is not panic if you are being proactive. Any competent organization doesn't start thinking on July 1st. about which players to pursue.

Be ready with offers and targets way before July 1st.

Being unprepared will cause panic.

If your targets are gone, just means you've come up short once again, which is typical for the Leafs.

If this happens -- which I am very hopeful of but extremely doubtful on -- there will many pictures just like this circulating in 10 to 20 years time of hometown Maple Leaf players holding McDavid jerseys when they were young.

I'm not going to rule the possibility out until absolutely necessary. I'd admittedly feel a lot better about the prospects though if EDM was the calibre of team now that NYI was back then.

I didn’t hear what I needed to hear today. I know they were out of structure but no one answered why. No gave an answer as to why there were “passengers” or why Matthews said he felt Florida was more desperate. Nylander said he didn’t play well after game 3, no one asked him why.
