GDT: End of season media availability - Today

How do people want Bennett here after he concussed Knies and Stolarz lol

The guy is a complete piece of shit, dirtiest player in the league since Matt Cooke

And he isn't really THAT good. He would literally be suspended multiple times if he was playing for any other team, he's just a piece of shit that is allowed to get away with being a piece of shit, therefore people think he's effective.
Don't worry, ownership and Shanny will nix this.

We had milder versions of Bennett: Kadri, Bunting, Marchment, and now we have only Domi. MLSE woke betas shipped out the first three, and many in this forum want Domi gone. Sigh... we can't have nice things that help win playoff rounds.

With the way things ended, it is going to be really hard to attract any quality free agents to come unless they get over paid or have a connection to the area / team. People assume the team will be better without Marner. I know it's the right move for everyone, but I am having a hard time seeing this team better next year. Nothing to trade, not many quality free agents to fill holes. Not a great feeling.

And the crazy thing about this "he got screwed with his elc" narrative, he got overpaid for his next contract so? Compared to what other players around the league are getting paid while outproducing him in the playoffs and regular season? Why is the comparison only to matthews' contract? Why should he get near drai's money? Or more than mackinnon?

And yes he's had pressure. But not the most in toronto. Matthews had that that crown the whole time. And i'd argue whoever was in net.

And yes crappy shit happened to him off the ice. Never excusable. But its happened to other players. Should we have resigned and kept reimer because we felt bad?

He refused 13.5. He wanted more and more money and all this "bad treatment" by fans and media (eye roll) is a direct result. Consequences of his own actions.

Just take less time signing. Or more money. Or come out after a loss and say "i take responsibility i wasnt good enough and that won't happen again". Or SCORE A GOAL IN GAME 7. Honestly why is it controversial to ask a game breaking player to put the team on his back in game 7? Simple things and he would have the keys to the city for life.

Sundin's exit was controversial, but he got a standing O for i believe a minute or something when he came back wearing that ugly jersey. Because as a captain and the best player, not a single fan, regardless of how they felt about him, questioned his love for the Leaf. Not a single person questioned how bad he wanted it, how hard he played every game, that he put the team on his back and scored big goals. Its players like that that get their statue made.

The crazy thing is you don't even have to win in this city. Dougie, clark, sundin never won. We would love you for life if you just cared.

exactly.
that's my thing
and i mean hey - WE ALL KNOW how toxic it was when Phaneuf & Kessel were here and they were given love too when they came back for the first time.

and I will say - honestly this is where PR/Media Training could come back to hurt people. because you don't really see that in other sports. and maybe it doesn't behoove you to shoot your mouth or speak your mind all the time. - but sometimes I think it's OKAY to say. "We were poo. We were poo i don't KNOW why we are poo and it pisses me off because it's frustrating to look like we're standing still and the other team is like ZOOM"

because I think personally even if people nit pick it - more would appreciate the candid reponse then for the 9th time hearing "you know. we were right here." it sounds disingenuous.

Alyn McCauley is one of my favourite leafs because when everyone went down, he stepped it up. you'd EXPECT it from Roberts, - but from McCauley? now imagine that attitude, that i REFUSE to bow down to you attitude coming from someone that we drafted, we saw develop, we pretty much liked and defended until he went all "Well I want it all and I want it now" like he's freaking Veruca Salt, then every playoff went. "you know. we're good" and barely show up.

He's screaming let's Effing Go on the bench (which great) but he looked exactly as I did - like he hadn't been playing for like a good chunk of the game.).

I don't get how you live here and say your a fan and not understand how your actions is legit shooting yourself in the foot. especially when you can look across the locker room and see JT who is exactly you but older probably getitng MORE poop because people think he's the one who threw everything out of whack he gets hated by TWO franchises and he's like yeah bring it. I want to stay here and make it better.

makes ya think.

The media is so f***in soft on these guys its unreal.

"How was it like to coach Matthews?"
"Do you want to sign Marner and Tavares?"

 Ask him what f***in flavour of ice cream he prefers.
Yep. Who owns the media asking the questions? Who owns the Leafs?
The same corporate entity, you say?

I don't even think the team will be better if they literally bring everyone back.

My takeaways is this is all on shanahan.

The players are who they are and we should know what they are and aren't capable of.

The top 6 is not good enough and this is on Shanahan for not holding them accountable and making core 4 changes sooner.

Echo Chamber. He lives strictly inside his own echo chamber and believe that everyone is wrong but him.

Bennett will probably get 7.5-8 to slot behind Barkov ($10m), Tkachuk ($9.5m) and Reinhart ($8.625m).

He's going to take a lot less to stay in Florida, guaranteed. Reinhart signing at 8.6M after a 57 goal season in todays cap is a bargain. It's at least 11M in Toronto and most other teams.

I expect Bennett to be around 5 to 6M in Florida, probably 8M over long-term elsewhere. That's just how the cookie crumbles when you have a tax haven team and a buy in attitude.

Would pay 8mil for Bennett to play for the Leafs.
Would also add Ekblad too

END OF SEASON - Anthony Stolarz

  • On the game 1 incident - Says it was frustrating not being out there with the guys. Calls it an unfortunate incident that caught him in a bad spot.
  • Confirms he had a concussion
  • On the impact of the shot off the face - says he's taken a lot of pucks off the helmet and says he always feels fine. Says he didn't feel anything for 45 minutes after that puck, but felt it after the incident.
  • On whether it was "accidentally on purpose" from Bennett - says doesn't think there's any malicious intent there. Thinks that entire team plays hard.
  • On the conversation with Bennett afterwards - says he felt very bad afterwards. Told him it was a fast game and that sh*t happens, and wished him luck.
