Sounds good now but 8M for a perennial 50 point guy is a tough fit in today’s cap. I guess they physicality makes up for it but I suspect people will start hating his contract fast at that spot.

I normally listen to or read these at the end of every season. Even with the consistent failures, I always still want to know what's going on, or what might happen next. Some years I pour over quotes.

As a father, I do understand that and it's a fair point. As mentioned, it was Dubas' fault for putting Marner in the driver's seat in the first place.

But if the speculation is true that Marner had no intention of re-signing here regardless of money because he got tired of the fan/media scrutiny, it would obviously have helped the organization tremendously if he accepted the trade to Carolina. As a hometown kid and Leaf fan, I thought that should have been part of his thought process.

Ultimately, he exercised his contractual right and put himself and his family first. I accept that. I don't hate him for it, but as a diehard Leaf fan, I can't help but have some resentment as well based on his entire history.

From a practicality standpoint any player who accepts a trade to 'help out their old team on the way out' is removing assets from their new team and should likely just wait until free agency if they think they will sign there. The exception being 1 for 1 trades in which they cannot fit on that team

and i mean hey - WE ALL KNOW how toxic it was when Phaneuf & Kessel were here and they were given love too when they came back for the first time.

and I will say - honestly this is where PR/Media Training could come back to hurt people. because you don't really see that in other sports. and maybe it doesn't behoove you to shoot your mouth or speak your mind all the time. - but sometimes I think it's OKAY to say. Alyn McCauley is one of my favourite leafs because when everyone went down, he stepped it up. you'd EXPECT it from Roberts, - but from McCauley? now imagine that attitude, that i REFUSE to bow down to you attitude coming from someone that we drafted, we saw develop, we pretty much liked and defended until he went all "Well I want it all and I want it now" like he's freaking Veruca Salt, then every playoff went. "you know. we're good" and barely show up.

He's screaming let's Effing Go on the bench (which great) but he looked exactly as I did - like he hadn't been playing for like a good chunk of the game.).

I don't get how you live here and say your a fan and not understand how your actions is legit shooting yourself in the foot. especially when you can look across the locker room and see JT who is exactly you but older probably getitng MORE poop because people think he's the one who threw everything out of whack he gets hated by TWO franchises and he's like yeah bring it. I want to stay here and make it better.

I don't agree about his yelling at teammates on the bench being great. I've never even heard anyone mention that as an effective motivating strategy.
MAYBE if he's having a great game and everyone else is flat someone can feel his frustration and want to improve but no one plays harder so that their teammate won't yell in their face again.
It's just a childish way to make a show of not enjoying losing. I sometimes feel embarassed about my childhood sports mistakes where I would express my personal frustration that I dropped the ball or mishandled a pass. What was I doing other than making sure people knew I thought I wasn't as bad as I just looked. I was banging my stick, shaking my head, nothing that helps the next play. I'd rather see him fuming on the bench and focusing internally. At least it might seem like he's searching for ways he can personally make a difference out there.

You are not suggesting that under a new leader Treliving will be from those shackles?

Be perfectly clear, whomever replaces Shanahan will be working under the exact same marching orders he was. Which means absolutely nothing will change.

But this isn't really a shot at MLSE, they are not much different from any corporate ownership entity in sports. And so for Treliving the only way he'll be from owners directing his decisions is if he buys a team for himself.

Bennett is an absoulute menance to the league and needs to be either taught a lesson, or be punished for his actions. Theres are too many players he has hurt "by accident" that believing they were accidents is a little tough.

Well hopefully Edmonton has a chance to teach Bennett a lesson in the finals.

You have no idea what his marching orders were and how much was dictated by him. By the sounds of it, he had a lot inf influence so with that gone, the shackles he imposed might well be too.

I think they identify their targets, and then if they strike out next year is a reset year. Keep the cap space, worst case you use it in season to acquire some assets either retaining for a team in a trade or taking a cap dump. Best case someone comes available and you can afford them.

Then next offseason you have 30M of cap space again and McDavid is a UFA. That might be the better year to blow the load

each their own (i'm not being dismissive - or anythingbut really each their own). when I played. there were times we were yelled at. people vent stuff differently. i just meant great that he was pissed. it was good to see SOME emotion/frustration. I'm not going to sit here and dictate how they show it, just show it. Presumably pining for Playoff Bennett more than anything here. That amount is a bit more pricey based on the regular season.

Mcdavid will not be a free agent...he is on a team that will not let him go.
