GDT: End of season media availability - Pelley speaking Friday at 1PM EST

that's fair. but then i'm also not going to kick the man for coming out and spekaing that's what they do. sometimes it's like people want these guys throw massive temper tantrums and go "well i am so pissed off, so we're going to fire everyone and then hire these people after the cup is over and hopefully for UFA we can get all the things."

that's not happening. from what i read it sounded very much that he was not happy, that's why shanahan lost his job and explained his position. that's all he can do. (right now)
I would buy most of this if they hadn’t sat there last year and said patience is over, the patterns can’t be ignored and then proceeded to run the whole thing back.

The things making it much worse if he doesn’t sound happy is that it is their own doing. They enabled it by telling us one thing and doing another. Then again, and again, so you get to the point where even your well meaning press conference is not believable.

BUMPING THIS FOR ANYONE who may have missed Pelley's Media Avail today.

He's now doing breakout scrums, but unless there's any telling answers to come out of it, I'm not going to be summarizing - more of the same is my guess.

Thanks for doing this, I appreciate it, as I had a 1pm meeting I couldn't miss.... so this summary was great.

---------------------------------------

I think Pelley said the right things, but talk is cheap. What is real, is what they do to try and win the cup. What real changes will be made? What personnel changes will be made?

We need a better PP coach. When you have that level of talent, who have previously proven they can be league best, you need better results. I might suggest this was one of our bigger downfalls. We should be top 3-5 in the league at minimum, all the time.

We need some culture change in the room. Clearly there is a weakness of not being able to raise the level of your game, when the game gets harder. Now I don't know who will be here next year, who isn't get signed, or who is, or isn't getting traded... but I really think that those who are back, need to have some degree of teachings, on how to play when it gets harder.... you know, bring in some ex-players who have done that, who have succeeded to be an assistant coach of some sort.

I'd love to bring Sid in somehow.... I don't see how that gets done... and I appreciate he just blew it to Denmark, but he's a leader. I also don't see Pittsburgh moving him. We do need a voice, a voice of a winner... I mean they tried Joe Thornton... who had won nothing... weird choice.

Maybe you sign Jonathan Toews if he completes his comeback.

so... then wait a week to hear from Tre.
today we're hearing from Pelly. who needed to explain WHY the president basically got fired.
so you think Tre will do a presser of his own in the coming weeks? I don't............

sadly it doesn't sound like Chief has a problem with the voices in the dressing room, he apparently wants everyone back.......

It was a mistake to hold this press conference without Treliving, even if it meant delaying it a few days. Someone needs to answer some hard questions about the team's future and Pelley clearly has nothing substantive to say on that. Instead we just got a bunch of platitudes (and some worrying ones at that: "We made strides" ... yes, but also no).
More like intentional lol

I don't read into PR speak. How often has any coach, ever said one of the players is terrible in a press conference? How often do they completely throw players under the bus? What is the shelf life of any coach when that happens.

What's said in public, is far less than what is said in private meetings... between Berube and Treliving.

Judge what he thinks, by who is brought back, and who isn't, and what changes are made.

there's a big difference from lauding how much you want players back and throwing them under the bus. Chief just made it that much harder to trade or move on from impending UFA's which makes Tre's job that much harder if that's even a possibility........

I don't think he made it hard to trade anyone... in fact the opposite. He said good things about all of the players... Imagine he said... oh, that player X is terrible... and then Tre had to move them? You don't devalue your assets publicly at any time.

I think we all know Shanny was the defacto GM.

He wanted this core 4 untouched for 7 years.

He was fired this week for it.
I think the higher-ups looked at the amount of time Shanahan spent here and the first place finish for the team this year which arguably could've (and should've?) led to a Conference Finals berth.

To add to that, it's still a partnership and Treliving + Pridham (if he's still around) will likely have to make cap decisions. Berube may want Marner and particular players back but it may not be possible to do that PLUS doing whatever else needs to be done. Also Marner doesn't want to be back apparently.

But I will say it's a tiny bit more likely Marner and JT are back, even if still highly unlikely for Marner.

I'm thinking Tavares could be the scarificial lamb. That makes sense and would probably be acceptable to fans and coach's. If Marner stays then it would appear that the (new look) Leafs still don't have the balls, or is golf balls?

Haha, what is this org? Ouff. Was fun following for the playoffs, but now it’s time to leave before I lose my sanity. Good luck running things back….again!

They are really going to try and run this back aren't they???? 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Marner might not give them that option though. All indications are that he is most likely gone as a UFA.

Tavares will probably be back, but I think it's very unlikely that the core 4 remains intact.

Did anyone else get the impression that this felt more like an an ego driven press conference instead of an informatory one, why couldn't this wait until Brad was available next week there was no need for this right now

Because if they had waited the same people crying that they didn't wait for Tre would have been crying that they were waiting for Tre.

Keith Pelley should be asked:

"Is Connor McDavid coming to TOR next season?"

If he answers "no', then the press can go home.

McJesus is under contract so any affirmative answer would be considered tampering.

And he isn't coming next season, he is coming the season after that via free agency.
