GDT: End of season media availability - Pelley speaking Friday at 1PM EST

Why are they taking TFC and Raps questions?

Do that on another day.

Someone ask why the guy who was brought in to finish Shanahan's vision is still here, and he's not?

Let us not forget Pelley was responsible for the terrible deal that Rogers made for the NHL Broadcasts. He also put the team in place and oversaw the production that absolutely destroyed Hockey Night in Canada. To me he's a big talker that always says what the old farts want to hear. Most media questions were softballs and he sidestepped them without giving concrete answers. My question is, what qualifications does he have to lead this franchise out of the wilderness? From what I see, it is highly unimpressive.

Waste of time folks .. Keith please get some PR advice before you do something else this stupid again .. makes you look like an idiot
What were you expecting him to say ... he was there and he answered the one question on everyones mind..why did he fire Shanahan.

Results.

How the F, did CJ gets that impression from that quote.

Probably because Pelley lumped Berube and Treliving together when talking about decisions moving forward, and having dinner with the coach probably is a strong indication of that. Plus CJ has some ears about it.

Maybe we need to add "No Brains" to our awesome slogan.

Treliving will be leading the franchise. Pelley is the CEO of MLSE.

Any other long time fans feeling a bit nervous? This sounds to me like we are going into free agency to swing our cash around to win now. Problem is I don't see much worth swinging for in free agency.

Are we about to give Bennett 10M and Ehlers/Boeser 9M to make up for losing Marner and have two awful contracts on the roster? Is this LACK and Clarkson all over again?

It was a mistake to hold this press conference without Treliving, even if it meant delaying it a few days. Someone needs to answer some hard questions about the team's future and Pelley clearly has nothing substantive to say on that. Instead we just got a bunch of platitudes (and some worrying ones at that: "We made strides" ... yes, but also no).
Pelley even said he's having dinner with Treviling on Sunday when he's back from Calgary at his daughter's graduation ceremony.

Why not just wait till Monday?

But I think the team wanted to get this out of the way on a Friday afternoon as it's path of least resistance and with Treliving not there, it limits the questions and answers. Pelley can play the ignorance game talking generalities so Treliving doesnt have to answer in more detail getting nailed with questions.

The guy also spent time talking a bit of TFC and NBA. I know it was related to MLSE team presidents and such, but that could had been cut out.

I don't think a lot of people in here understand what a CEO does and why they talk like politicians... it's because they are lol

I'm not sure why everyone is ignoring the real things he said about management moving forward... just a lot of bitching for no reason.

Most CEO's are complete idiots.
They just loving hearing themselves talk in meetings.
That's all they do.

3 hour breakfast meeting
3 hour lunch meeting
3 hour end of day meeting
3 hour miscellaneous Golf meeting (Weather permitted)

God I'm having PTSD from working in the Financial Institution.

Once you reached DVP you are golden.
It only gets easier higher up you go.

Personally, i do think the coach should have input on who to sign, resign, trade... bc he is the one playing those players. In terms of whom to draft, maybe 1st rounder as those guys could be ready in 2 yrs.

We already knew that .. people wanted to hear what his plans were to retool this team .. Shanny's press release was pretty clear .. he couldn't get da job done which was a Cup for our Leafs

Not the reason why he is not physically there, but why does he remain as the GM?

He said that they've made strong strides and he's been good in his short time here. I guess he still see's value in keeping someone like Treliving around with an increased role and see how it goes. It continues the vision of the last 2 years but without the red tape of a President that's been here for 11.

Pelley saying Shanny's role isnt needed anymore as it'll be absorbed by other people is a giant slap in the face of Shanny.

Pelley acted like total smooth talker today. But if someone is leaving and the company doesn't need to fill the role anymore and other people can just add it on their tasks already, it shows Shanny's role being it's own position is worthless.

Wow.

Ppl are bashing him but I like what he said tbh
Two big takeaways for me:
  • It's taken nearly 11 years for someone from this organization to actually acknowledge the fans, and their right to be disappointed - it wasn't an apology, but we've been begging them to show some f***ing respect to the fans and not take us for granted for a very long time now, and today at least feels like a nod into the direction of comprehending that.
  • "Custodians". I love that word. Because you are custodians. You are stewards. This is our team, not yours. You're only here for a short time. The Toronto Maple Leafs were here very long before you got here, and will be here long after you've left. Respect the institution of the hockey team, do your best, and stop taking for granted the value of the fans and how much time, energy, and money they invest into your product.
