End of Season Media Availability - Management ( 10 PST)

level up to what? He was already a 100 point elite defensive center. I honestly dont see how this can be seen as anything other than a colossal failure on management and coaching.
Read my previous post. There's a reason Sidney Crosby and Yzerman (the two JR cited) are great leaders. It takes more than scoring and being good defensively to win a championship. NHL history is riddled with players that put up great numbers but never won a thing.

This presser was 50x worse than expected and I assumed it would be bad. What a clueless old duffer he is. Just unbelievable.

Now the rest of the league is buzzing about Hughs leaving and we will never hear the end of it. Alvin has to go over the head of JR and get him fired.

What a complete disaster of a season. Miller and Pettersson to start things off. Miller pulls a Kesler and leaves us little to play with. Virtually All of our star players got hurt, a couple long term that lasted most of the year. Canucks miss the playoffs and get a mid round pick again. While our top prospect doesnt seem to want to sign with us atm. Management once again throws star players under the bus. While management prepares us for a eventual Hughes departure.

It's mighty great to be a Canucks fan. Holy moly.

They have Emilie Castonguay who’s a former agent and is the one credited with negotiating contracts. The issue with Willander seems to be stubbornness on all fronts.
The reason why Gillis hasn't been a GM again is probably because of negotiations, so it's a weird example to bring up.

Just give me 1 cup before I die. Please?

I have been a fan of management overall. And have been supportive of most of their decisions.

But JR, as loveable and honest and as he is. He needs to retire. While I can understand why he did the Miller interview with Mason, to soften the eventual blow, it was executed really casually like an informal chat between father and son. And this whole presser is just one unforced error after another. I don't know if anyone in the org has the cache to tell him to be careful what he says, and if there's no one, then Franky needs to politely ask him to step aside. this is embarrassing for the franchise.

It's the overall lack of coherence between their actions and their message to the media/fanbase.

It's going to be really tough to run a franchise/business in this climate, you need to convey professionalism and competence for your partners and staff. He is communicating unclearly, casually, and showing a general lack of awareness what market this is.

Not sure that Allvin is ready, but right now, there are many better president candidates out there.

Whenever the management team makes a questionable decision, the usual defense is that it must be the result of meddling ownership or misinformation from the media. But honestly, I'm starting to believe that many of the poor decisions we've seen in recent years, which seem to be happening more often lately, are simply the product of a subpar management group, one that includes an aging executive who just made a horrific mistake.

It now feels inevitable that we'll lose the greatest player in franchise history without getting a proper return. On top of that, we're jeopardizing our relationship with our top RD prospect. I’ve stayed quiet about how they’ve handled Willander, but at this point, it’s looking more and more like I’ll be changing my username again. Maybe he'll go on to be a first-pair RD for another team, but my loyalty is to the team, not this particular player.

I’ve been a fan of this team since 1994, and even after leaving the city in 2007 for a job, I’ve stuck with this team through everything. I've also been a daily user of this website, following the team fanatically, but this is really testing my loyalty in ways I didn’t expect.

With my kids growing up in New York, I wonder if I should make the switch to being a Rangers or Islanders fan, but deep down, I know I never really could. And that’s what makes all of this so painful.

Hes not those players, that's hughes. Hes the Fedorov, Malkin. Not every player has to be a leader. Maybe it's not the best idea for a player who seems to be pretty introverted.

Just listened to the presser. I for one appreciate Jim's answers. I hate when management beats around the bush. He basically just told the truth of what we all knew all along which I wish most hockey ops would do.

That said I still believe Hughes is a career Canuck. He ain't a quitter. This is his team and he wants to bring a cup to Vancouver. Not chase his little brothers to New Jersey. I feel like alot forgot who Hughes is as a human. He's going to build his own Legacy.

That said I believe management knows it will be alot easier when the contract comes around that the Canucks are competitive.

I look forward to them being aggressive this offseason. I think we're all going to be surprised.

Regarding Willander going back to school I think that's just posturing by management. Basically saying ya go ahead and forgo your million for another season we're totally ok with that. It's just negotiations. It will work out on the end.

You are looking forward to that? You think they will get 3 good forwards in the off season. It would be one of their worst decisions ever. Hughes will leave when it doesn't work out. He will leave because of incompetence.

I totally agree. It is harder to step out like that as an introvert. They need to appeal to his pride. I certainly believe he's a proud guy.
You can be an introvert and still be a leader. The best leaders are those who lead by example with their work ethic and their drive to win. This has been the criticism of Petey, I don't think Rick, Allvin or JR care at all if Petey takes the guys out for bowling or gives them the rousing speech between periods. Petey can be as quiet as he wants as long as he lets his work ethic do the talking.
