End of Season Media Availability - Management ( 10 PST)

jack hughes with his injuries might not be untouchable in NJ

Will be expensive but will almost guarantee Quinn to resign and then the last bro to sign when he is FA

They're not dumb lmao if they keep the 2 brother and we shit the bed again next year which is a very realistic proposition, they can bring on Quinn Hughes for free.

Does it confirm that? I don't think it does.
JR just said that they're going to have the cap space to offer Hughes a contract that he deserves, and then he said it might not be all about money with him, and referenced the comments Quinn made about wanting to play with his brothers at the 4N tournament, and then made a half-joking statement about bringing his brothers here.

Doesn't seem like a big deal to me, and he's not revealing any new info we didn't already know.

I'd fire them all, personally. Zero accountability shown for a while now. Common message is "we had a plan, but things didn't go according to plan". Well no shit, things rarely go according to plan in life.

Their scorched-Earth approach to contracts also bothers me. There's shrewd negotiating, and then there's just being f***ing insane. Their approach to contracts seems to be "well he better sign it or we're going to throw him off a f***ing bridge."

Not to mention, they've both tunnel visioned (Guentzel) and played weird hardballs (Zadorov) only to backpedal. It's not been a good year for management.

This whole exit interview just looks awful. Rutherford may like better trades than Benning, but my god his interviews have been horrendous. Just shut up, my guy.

I respectfully disagree, Quinn Hughes mentioned he wants to play with his brothers, but that was ages ago.

The fact, Jim randomly brought it up for no reason whatsoever, pretty much confirmed and made everything more concrete and recent.

Was he joking, it definitely could be interpreted like that, but sometimes there’s truth in jokes

I don’t think his interviews are horrendous, I think he usually just makes one mistake every single time because of how honest he is.

I love the fact he’s open and honest

That just plays into their inability to pivot ... anything that doesn't go exactly as they want they seem to blow a toddler spaz. Reminds me of my four-year-old's approach. Good management is agile, these guys seem to be the opposite.

I’m actually hopeful for the off-season, I think they are going to do a great job, but they are definitely going to be trading a first round draft pick, and the top prospect, and as long as it’s not Dpetey, I can live with that fact as long as it’s a proper great young centre talent.

Good time to remind people that Rutherford left Pittsburgh under still mysterious circumstances and was not wanted by many NHL teams until Aquilini threw him a lifeline. Seems like more people are coming to their senses (I've been saying this since the beginning...)

Always begs the question of how good he was if he wasn't handed MAF, Malkin, Crosby, Letang, Staal and Guentzal.

He still had to do quite a bit to get them the cup wins but I think he's a bit like Stevie Y, people wondering if he's as good as people made him out to be.

I had mentioned when he was hired that he's quickly going to find out how difficult it is to win without HOF talents of malkin Crosby Letang and MAF.

I wonder how they would have treated and talked about crosby if they were around when he missed all that time with concussions

Biggest take away Todd Diamond sounds like a giant pos lmao you can see Allvin's hate for him in his eyes when talking about Willander's "advisor".

Also Rutherford's getting fined for that comment at the end.

He won in Carolina without those players, and made lots of aggressive moves to put that team over the top.
Pre cap era.

It's like Tocchet, do I think Tocchet is the best, no. Is there much worse out there, oh hell ya.

Is Rutherford the best, no. Is there much worse out there, oh hell ya.

That doesn't equal a Stanley cup without some serious luck.

Rick tocchet literally said "reprogramming".

Jim said today that tocchet has been doing that since he got here. So yes they have been trying to reprogram a 100 point 2 way center.

The results of their efforts so far are a 45 point third line center..
Little bit of a strawman there. Whether Tocchet said it or not (I'll take your word for it) JR or Alvin didn't and it's completely beside the point that JR was making and that I was translating. Unless EP levels up to become that leader they expect from him, this current team will not be a contender. He's capable of it. They believe he can do it. He just needs to decide to do it.
By comparison, what makes Quinn Hughes so special is not only his pure talent, it's his desire to give everything he can mentally and physically to get better as a player, as a leader, and as a teammate.

Yeah, I am getting closer and closer to this and I think I have been pretty pro managment... but they have also been sooooooo messy.

From Rachel Doerie (who may have been a problem...) to Pettersson, to Horvat, to Miller, to Willander and on... its just messy.

I think they are mostly smart, but they get in their own way to often.

Yeah I've been pretty pro management as well however I am having a hard time seeing why on earth JR would state those comments about Hughes? What good does that serve outside of stoking the flames here?

Also continuing to bash Petey while speaking soo glowingly of Miller just doesn't serve a lot of purpose.

JR is a bit too cavalier these days with his comments. Alvin is much more measured and might have to take over the mike here as lately JR hasn't been helping

level up to what? He was already a 100 point elite defensive center. I honestly dont see how this can be seen as anything other than a colossal failure on management and coaching.
