End of Season Media Availability - Management ( 10 PST)

This was Alvin at the seasons ticket holder meeting. He basically says that Miller came back from the summer in tip top shape ready to win a Stanley cup. But there was other younger players who came back and weren't as dialed in. "some of the younger guys" he says

It sounds to me like Miller was riding these "younger players" hard. Does Petterson still count as a younger player ? Who else could he be talking about ?

I call BS on this. Who were these "younger players?" Certainly not Hughes. In the past, Miller was reported to be with the veteran's group (i.e. they paced themselves at training camp). From the regulars last season, Hoglander again came in at "tip top shape." Petey was a guy who traditionally aced the training camp bag skates. From Dayal and Drance's article in the Athletic:
While Pettersson revealed Thursday that the tendinitis in his knee is still nagging at him and that he had to train around it this summer, his pace looks normal. His skating actually looks a bit more powerful than it has in years past.

Far from being concerned about Pettersson, this is an exciting start to the campaign for the Canucks star centre.
So who is Alvin talking about? Certainly not Garland? Boeser got off to a quick start before he was concussed and didn't look out of shape to me. Joshua was recovering from cancer. Can't be Suter or Blueger? Other than Hronek and Soucy or the goalies there aren't really any "younger players" from last year unless he's talking about the likes of Aman, Raty etc. which seems silly as they weren't big contributors to last season's success.

I can't imagine he's talking about the new guys? Can't be Debrusk and Sherwood? I mean Sprong reportedly was in excellent shape. Desharnais (as if anyone cares?)

It’s petey, he just doesn’t wanna use his name directly

Just get rid of these clowns. They are a PR/MEDIA disaster. Gushing over how awesome Miller is as a person and player, with a strong drive to win... so then why the hell was he the one taking "a leave of absence"? Was Tocchet just kicking back and watching the drama unfold? There is no accountability from management at all, and they don't seem to care much about getting EP back on track. They should be supporting him, but instead: Miller is awesome, EP needs to train harder, and they're open to moving him after not even trying to protect his value as an asset. What a gongshow.

They dragged Boudreau through the mud to the point where he was trying to hold back tears from behind the bench, when any halfway knowledgeable hockey execs would've just fired him and went with an interim coach as a fill-in. Just stupid.

They knew there was something to the lockeroom drama from years earlier, but they moved Horvat instead? And now they need a center, AND are open to moving EP. Wtf?

Now they are bracing the fanbase for an upcoming overpayment for a top 6 center, while driving a wedge between them and their top prospect (over frickin bonuses), effectively losing leverage for when they inevitably move Willander at a discount in the deal.

Just make it end, please.

Edit: There is also the "Hughes wants to play with his brothers" that caused a media stir, plus "he's not answering my calls", that now has everyone saying Hughes doesn't want to be here and will be signing in New Jersey. Media outlets are discussing trade scenarios... The hockey world is basically pointing and laughing at the team right now.

Its interesting they keep praising Miller who isn’t even on the team yet are lukewarm on what they say about Petey.

Interesting approach.

Its so obviously shots being fired at ownership.

Frankie will never forget gold plated Petey.

Frankie cant get over 10 in 10.

Jimmy hasnt been asked if he has full autonomy these days so he's just lashing out to show us he doesnt.

Somehow Allvin is actually the third GM on the pecking order.

This is so f***in odd.

Has any management team proclaimed their love like this to a player who took a 1 month absence and then demanded a train?

This is not normal. Why cant ANYTHING around the Canucks be normal?

Yeah.

This is where Im landing too.

First of all dont let Rutherford speak. At all. He is now a continuous source of self inflicted wounds.

The plan was always shit. Almost everyone knew it was shit the moment they started their brick by brick bullshit. It suceeded a bit for a year because of 1985 oilers shooting bender. Then failed in a very unexpected fashion but fail it did. But I wont give them style points for failing in a suprising way...

Now we are further away from contending then when they got here.

Im as apathic about the state of the team as I ever have.

We need to speak good things into the universe.

Next season under a new head coach the Canucks will have a Whitecaps' like turnaround and win the Stanley Cup.

It's just a mismanagement all around. Hockey is a team game. This isn't basketball. If Miller is so worked up over ONE player coming into camp out of shape then he needs better emotional intelligence. If it was 3 on 3 hockey then I get giving up.

And if we are to give Miller the benefit of the doubt (as management and Tocchet is here), then this is on management and Tocchet. Like if Miller was frustrated with Petey showing up out of shape and starting the season useless, the solution isn't to reward Petey with 19+ minutes a game and PP1 time if they want to preach accountability. If management and coaching are all backing Miller and agreeing with him then why isn't Petey held accountable? Scratch him for a few games and have him reset. Instead they do nothing until the whole thing boils over.

Agreed except I don't believe that Miller ever requested a trade.

For someone who has been front and centre as an NHL GM for decades, I can't believe some of the stuff that has come out of Rutherford's mouth. Like people here thought Benning mentioning Subban's name was bad but at least that came from answering a direct question and not unprompted.

Rutherford or Alvin said that he did.
