I'm sure they would have done that if they could have traded Pettersson for a similarly aged quality centre. But that's extremely unlikely.
The icing of the knee was because he crashed into the boards at the Four Nations. I am not sure why that would have anything to do with his kneeing still being an issue. Impact causes swelling, and ice is used to stop the swelling. You don't have to have a bum knee for impact to cause swelling on your knee.
I agree with you, generally. They are doing it because: no other messaging is working with him; and/or they are trying to deflect blame to Pettersson.
Pretty clearly management just confirmed that his knee is fine and was fine last year? Am I missing something?
I think management's position is pretty clear at this point. They know Pettersson had patellar tendinitis. They think this injury is the type of injury that players routinely play through without much issue. They recognized that the injury was an issue for Pettersson in terms of training in the off season, but they basically came out and implied that it didn't have to be an issue if he trained appropriately. And overall, management seems to think Pettersson just isn't preparing well enough in the off season, or on a day to day basis including practicing. They could be wrong on some or all of this, but it has to be recognized that they have access to way more information than you or I do, so its interesting some posters are so certain that management is wrong on this.
Fair point. And again, I don't really disagree with you on how they have come about this from a PR perspective. Its all very strange, but interesting.
