To think 6 defenseman went before Jacob Trouba in the 2012 draft (Murray, Reinhart, Rielly, Lindholm, Dumba, Pouliot)... just wow.

:D

I had him 3rd behind Murray and Reilly. I was always a fan of the Trouba pick, and I'm glad that Chevy picked him instead of Filip Forsberg when he fell.

I don't think I've ever wanted to see a Youtube of a breakout pass but does anyone else want to see Trouba's pass to (I think it was) Halischuk in the third there to get out of our end when the Rangers were starting to bear down on us?

I can't believe even for a second I thought it might've been someone not named Trouba.

This is what the Pavelec doubters wanted. Play more monty and manage Pavs work load and he likely does better. And lo and behold he's now playing like an NHL starter. Maybe not 4 million worth but he's playing good enough to be our bonafied #1 with adequate rest.

Tough to feel optimistic when you look at the standings but what can ya do. Keep trucking boys.

Are you talking about the one where Halischuk turned and the puck landed right on his tape without him hardly having time to look?

Pretty much. Cross ice with a defender pressuring from either direction, and I'm pretty sure he had to spin around to fire it too. Just ridiculous.

having to watch some Leaves games due to my locale, i can confidently say that, comparing Trouba to Reilly at this point of their careers or projecting down the road, Trouba will be a significantly better D-man than Reilly.
I don't mind Reilly. Trouba pretty much has little to no noticeable flaws in his game. he hasn't even let loose offensively, which will probably blow our minds when he does. if he gains 10 lbs in upper body strength this off-season (his only weakness as far as i can see)? holy ****, man....

Everything about Trouba's game is amazing, but watching him in his own end is incredible. his break-out passes yesterday were literally some of the best i've seen in a while. even passing it to his man in their own zone - not your typical, predictable passes, but all so very smart.

excuse me. i need to sit down for a minute....

exactly. sounds lame, but highlight of the night. my jaw dropped to the floor. like....unpredictable. yet the best passing option out there. and i have no idea how he saw it or executed it. just....yeah.

Jet had the game on PVR. See if he can't rip a few of Trouba's defensive plays onto YouTube.

30 games in and Enstrom has 7 lousy assist's despite playing every PP, lets not sugar coat it, Enstrom's lofty status as a PP QB is a myth! He makes bad reads, moves the puck way too slowly on the PP, doesn't shoot when he should. passes when he should shoot and shoots when he should pass.

I've been watching Toby closely, and he does some good things, but he is way too slow. Slow at retrieving the puck in our end (usually a good forechecking team will arrive at the same time he does), slow at getting it out of our end (turns back way too much and turns it over) and finally, he stops the puck and waits way too long especially on the PP.

I know he is a smart guy, but he almost takes being calm to a negative extreme.

I had the exact same reaction, and I think the announcing team did too. You could tell they were expecting him to ring it around the boards or something and were scrambling to figure out what the **** just happened and how we ended up breaking out over our own blueline. Now I gotta see it again.

The one thing I noticed we did alot more of last night was instead of mindlessly flinging the into pressure points on the wings our d-men were consciously taking it into the corners, pinning it and waiting for support. How many times have we seen them play it to wingers only to have the opposing d-man pinch down and turn the puck over in open ice where they have space to make plays? It might not be the most efficient thing to do against some of the bigger teams like the Bruins but I think we've got the bodies to compete in those puck battles as long as people aren't losing their assignments outside of it.

Did anyone else notice this? I saw Ellerby and Byfuglien do it quite a few times.

If I had the infrastructure I would totally devote some of my work week to making a Youtube compilation of Trouba. I'm all giddy just thinking about watching him play.

So happy to see Albert pot a goal. A friend of mine here in the office has been excited to see him with the big club for years.

As someone genetically predisposed to dislike teams called Rangers who play in blue, white and red, this win pleases me.

Great to see a win after the disappointment in Philly. Trouba is going to be a total beast. Buff was immense, and great to see the young guy Albert scoring.

If only we could sort out that ******* powerplay!

**** there are more than one of us Brits here?

Ellerby tried that same pass earlier, but there wasn't a Jet within a mile of the pass - boom in the back of the net.

Seriously, Trouba was sensational again, and that was a great play. I also liked a couple of his rushes (including setting up Wheels for the ENG). He has all the tools, great vision and is really cool under pressure. He is probably the most important Jet going forward over the next few years.

I think we might need to all settle down a bit about the second line, or we might be disappointed when Noel flips Kane and Thorbs on the 2nd and 4th lines. They had a very good game and scored on 3 out of 7 shots. Seto has had that shot many times in the past without scoring, and Olli's second goal came from a fortuitous deflection from Thorbs' skate. Neither Thorbs nor Seto were even on the ice for Olli's second goal, which was all due to Trouba and Frolik. Thorbs only shot (a great chance) was set up on a fine play by Scheifele.

I wanted to mention again that I thought that Wheeler had his best game in a long time.

I actually thought Wheeler put in another sub-par performance again. Especially on the powerplay. Scheifele would make a good play to carry the puck in and then Wheeler would immediately lose it. I saw it happen at least three times.

I've suspected for awhile that he's been nursing a wrist injury. He just can't seem to take a pass for the life of him and it's been going on for awhile. While his own passing has been off as well, which makes me think a wrist issue is likely the culprit.

And Wheeler being Wheeler, he won't sit out or tell anyone he's hurt. The only games he's missed as a Jet was when he got a puck in the throat.

Next change they could make would be to get rid of Wazny on the post-game show. Right now he's ranting on how Tampa Bay is a game the Jets should win. Maybe he should check the standings. I think the Jets can beat the Lightning, but calling a road game against a team that's top 4 in the East and 10-3 at home a should win is a bit ridiculous.
So glad to hear that people called in to point out to Wazny on his baloney.

His on-air schtick is to just dwell on negatives, and it's tiresome and predictable. Even when called on it, he doesn't get it. A guy called in to point out how negative he was on Thorburn being on the 2nd lineup and get him to eat crow, and Wazny didn't get the point.

Making matters worse, he delivers all his constant criticisms with enough personality to make Brian Munz sound exciting.

TSN 1290 needs to pull a Winnipeg Free Press and let this guy go.

The free press hired him back I believe.... I don't understand why though.....

Every moment of Edmond's Winnipeg Jets' calls are filled with excitement. I really wish this was our normal radio broadcast.

Me too actually. I'd never heard him until the Flyers game, and right away I thought, 'Who is this guy? He's calling a pretty exciting game...even though the game might not be particularly exciting.'

I listened to parts of a few Goldeyes games over the summer. The guy can make baseball exciting at times, so yeah... a hockey game would be a slam dunk for him.

One point I missed. All empty net points are not created equal.

Most of the time they can be about a bounce and being in the right place and the right time to take advantage of the empty net. Trouba made a very good play to carry the puck out of harm’s way from deep in our zone then he unselfishly found Wheeler to get him off the schneid. That was a nice play.

my 2nd favorite play he made was his read and react when he jumped the play shorthanded in the neutral zone and recognized the Ranges were flat footed and took it wide 1 v 3, bought time, came around their net under some duress and still put the puck on Ladd's stick in the slot for a dangerous scoring chance.....there were so many things about that play that were good Buff elements and yet it was from our rookie (if anyone is making a youtube video please include this play :))

I would be curious to see how is advanced stats looked last night when not playing with Stuie. Most of us are clearly loving what we are seeing and I wonder if the numbers back it up? 8 blocked shots indicates he was defending quite a bit as well (although I am not sure how many of those blocks were on the PK)

more random thoughts.

Ellerby has that Subban, Rob Blake hip check down to a science......those are heavy hits that can really rattle a guy.

Trouba was very good but Buff was on another planet last night.
