Kreider? He certainly is playing like a 1st liner right now. It depends on how you define top end talent. If you only consider superstars as top end talent, then we have none. But a player like Kreider can be a good 1st liner if he continues his current level of play and matures further.

I agree. But Kreider is the only one right now. I mean a legit 1st liner like Stepan was last year. Stepan WAS a 1st line center last year but he isnt playing like that this year. I guess i just want legit guys who can produce consistently on the top line.

Alas, such guys are very hard to find outside the top 5-10 picks.

But where do you want them to find these mythical players? If you aren't tanking, it's going to be extremely hard to find them. Hence why having Kreider play as a 1st liner would be huge for us since he was a late 1st round pick. You don't find guys like that very often that late in the draft.

Modern scouting has gotten to the point where these guys that are the top liners don't normally drop far anymore.

True but other teams found them without tanking. Just gotta draft smart and scout the right guys. Doesnt mean much now but i like Mcilrath, but Mcilrath over Tarasenko AT THE TIME? Nobody knows how it will turn out but it would be nice to have Tarasenko on this team. Kreider-Stepan-Tarasenko sound nice right about now but its irrelevant. Teams like Boston drafted top guys and they didnt tank. Dallas found Benn in round 5, they drafted Neal in round 2. These guys are there we just need to draft them. I'm not very confident in our scouts

Yeah, guys completely flying under the radar pretty much don't exist anymore. If you want high end talent with later picks, you always have to take gambles. Players who play against weak competition (like Dreiser in HS), with the "Russian factor" (like Bunch), with flaws like skating or size or players that develop late are basically the only chances you get at top end talent at our draft positions. I think the Rangers have done a pretty good job with that.

It's pretty clear this team needs to shore up its center depth. Been true for a while.

Centers who are 26 or younger:

1. Stepan
2. Brass
3. Lindberg
4. Nieves
5. St. Croix

That's not a bad bunch. The top two are already quality NHLers, and I am pretty sure either Nieves or Lindberg will be a very capable bottom-6 center.

If anything, I'd try to swing for the fences with more guys like St. Croix. Sure, the vast majority will go bust, but if there's one thing we need at center it is a offensively-skilled top-6 center. Between guys like Brass, Lindberg and Nieves, I don't have much concern for out bottom-6, but only Stepan seems capable of putting in quality performances in the top-6 on a consistent basis.

Tarasenko and his 12 points in 22 games? That Tarasenko?

He looks like an OK player, but nothing special.

And you completely missed my point. Guys like Benn and Neal don't fall that often these days. As scouting has gotten better, these players don't normally fall. Those guys obviously did, but it's much more uncommon than it used to be.

8 goals in 22 games. That's impressive for a kid his age.

I wanted Tarasenko, and would still pick him if given a chance to do so, but I'm happy enough with McIlrath, so I'm not gonna ***** about the pick. We arguably need an imposing presence on D as much as a goal scorer.

Ok but they got drafted right? These guys are there in the later rounds. Hagelin is a good top 6 player and he was a 6th round pick. The scouting has to be better regardless is all i'm saying. Tarasenko isnt special but how old is he again? Other than Kreider, what young forwards do we have in the NHL? We dont have a Tarasenko or any young scorer other than Kreider

To be honest, i think on THIS TEAM the scorer might help a little bit right now. We dont lose becase of our defense, we lose because we have no offense

And Tarasenko would be our leading goal scorer

The scouting is fine. We have some of the better scouting in the league since we are constantly putting players in the NHL.

Is Stepan not young enough? Is Hagelin not young enough? Miller should be in over Moore, IMO. What is your definition of young if you are excluding guys like Stepan and Hagelin?

Stop. Talking. Silliness.

His 8 goals leads our team right now so exactly what's wrong with that tarasenko ?? :shakehead

An ok player? Good lord.... Hes 21 yrs old. He had 8 in 38 games last yr and has 8 in 22 so far this year on a deep young team.

Everyone's wet dream ck has 3 goals in 16 games

Stepan 5/23

Beev 6/23

Mr 1stline/3rd line has 6 in 15.

Ya, he would look good on this team right now with his 8 goals while mcilrath is punching people in Hartford. :(

Yes. An OK player. As of right now that is what he is. Kreider is doing more in the NHL than Tarasenko is other than scoring goals. They have the same amount of points with Kreider playing less games.

As of right now, he's a solid young guy. I'm not going to crown him like you seem willing to be. I'd like him on this team for sure. But it's not doing anything overly impressive right now. Especially not for the hype behind him.

Not a week goes by in HFNYR that doesn't have people *****ing and moaning about the McIlrath pick. Enough already.

Not the point.

Goal starved team. Mcilrath in Hartford punching people. Tarasenko has 8 goals.

We could use those 8 goals.

How many more wins might we have now and in the future if we projected out his 8 goals in 22 over entire season to say.... 30 goals hmmm....?

End of story.

And for the record, Big Mac is our guy now and I'm 100% behind his development and hopefully his stepping into a big time role for this team.

Youre missing the point.

Other than Hagelin, Stepan and Kreider, what other young offensive forwards do we have on the team? Tarasenko would be nice to add to a core of Stepan, Hags and Kreider dont you think? The scouting isnt "fine". How is the scouting fine? It could be alot better imo. Tarasenko would be a nice piece to our top 6 RIGHT NOW. Young scorer with size who has 8 goals, more than any forward on our team. I'm not saying he would save the day, but adding another young top 6 scorer in Tarasenko would have been nice. Scoring is what we need right?

I didnt say Stepan, Hagelin or Miller arent young enough did i? Miller should be in the AHL right now. We constantly put players in the NHL to trade them away because they dont have enough offensive skill.

He isnt overly impressive at all, but he has 8 goals. Our leading scorer has 6? Mcilrath is nice but Tarasenko would be nice on a team with a core of Steps, Hags, Kreider and Miller.

The Clowe deal cost the 2nd + Florida's 3rd, which was the first pick in the 3rd round.
It's very possible that they could have packaged the 2nd + a combination of the 4 3rds to get a decent pick in the first round in a deep draft..

That's what I was hoping for too. Two of the best drafts(2003 & 2013), the rangers disappear.
