Slafkovsky's actually pretty good at planting himself in front of the net. Once we're set up in the offensive zone, he often heads towards the net and acts as a screen/deflector, which he's done well. It doesn't look like a problem with his net-GPS or brute strength; it looks like an inability to protect the puck while it's on his stick. He lacks the dodge & weave skills to carry the puck around players, and he lacks the body-positioning to protect the puck if he wants to skate through players. The result is he gets pressured easily and either rushes his pass or loses the puck altogether.

Slaf's a really good passer. If he learns how to protect the puck and maintain control a bit longer, he could become a great playmaker.
He needs to study Jager and Armia tape.

I always liked this kid from the min we acquired him. Remember the comments from fans saying he was traded twice now? People were looking at the 1st rounder (Mesar ended up being that pick I believe) but I was looking at Heineman as the prime piece.

I seen a guy with solid size, skating, worth ethic, and a very good shot from a mile away. These are the type of middle 6 talent who help you win the cup. They can play basically on any line depending on team fit.

He's not done growing/maturing yet! More improvement to come

Even without Heineman emergence, I had no hope on Ferrell and Mesar, even less on Kidney

I remember giving Kidney some low grades when he was dominating the Q and got heat for it. I said this kid does not skate good enough to handle the less time/space in the NHL and he needs to add some serious muscle.

Whenever you draft smaller types with skill, they better be elite level skaters or they will get smothered once they turn pro. There are way too many big boys that skate well in todays' game so the smaller types need to have equally as good skating grades. Mesar was a good use of a dart regardless of how he turns out.

I think Heineman is having success right now precisely because of the chair he sits in. I’m not sure he has same success riding with Dach and Laine
His forecheck works a lot because Army and Evans play the tightest gap and all three are in sync. That line is rocking it; but we keep calling it the 4th.. Does it have less TOI than Dvorak’s?

edit - seems Heineman here is the only outlier with his 11 mins toi/g… Army, Gally and Anderson have similar toi. Evans has a a minute more toi/g than Dvorak but that’s special teams I figure.

…9g for 11 mins toi/g sounds pretty amazing so far

He's shooting about 24% and that's not sustainable. OTOH a few minutes more icetime should mean more shots to help partially offset a decline in shooting

Since ~7 games the Habs are rolling 4 lines and the difference in TOI is more based on shift length and special teams TOI then the amount of shifts.

It remains to be seen what he does without Evans and Armia which could happen at the deadline.

What does he needs to do to be promoted in a more offensive line ?

I would kick out that scrub Newhook and replace it with Heineman right way.
Eventually, you could be right. But I wouldn't change a thing about that line right now.

Heineman got hit by a car last night, here's a quote from his agent:

''That's correct, we're currently waiting on an update from North America. He has been hit by a car, but it's nothing super serious. Maybe a fracture on a wrist, and a specialist will take a look at the injury.''

Hopefully it's nothing serious and he's alright

Yeah, waiting on Canadiens statement.

WTF?! Sigh. He is one of the good guys. Hope it's nothing.

The reddit thread about it had people saying it may be a broken ankle or wrist.

Hopefully none of this is true, but yeah. Great.
In the article his agent says that it's nothing too serious, perhaps a (what I'd assume) slight fracture in his ankle but they're waiting for a specialist to check him up. I guess people are just confused about the location of the injury because "vrist" in swedish means ankle, not wrist.

who gets the callup? I think beck probably deserves the next one. I know he’s a natural C but starting on the wing is pretty normal for rookie centers.

Glad to know that it's nothing serious and he's gonna be OK. If he does have a fractured ankle he's gonna miss some time though which sucks because Heineman has been playing damn fine hockey since the start of the season. But the most important is that it's nothing serious and that he will be OK. Health first , sports second.
