Eller had rock hands and the brain of a stegosaurus.

Emile is 10x the player Larry was, no offense.
He had great IQ but only in 2/3 zones. And I think Eller had great hands, I always think his issue was actually making a play once he gained the Ozone.

But I agree Heine has way more potential. I can understand the comparison but in the end I think its not the best one we can make.

I wasn't comparing them in that sense but rather for the things they do that are important elements for winning games: the physical play, the forecheck, and the competitive level. We have two bottom six lines playing the same way, and if it continues, we will keep winning.

If Eller was better at those things, I’m not sure it’s by much. But those are finer points of the game where my memory is shakey so I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt.
He really was superior, and vastly so, which is not to denigrate the very, very young Heineman. Eller was, in his prime, a premier defensive center, and ideal third-liner. Just by virtue of his position and, thus, role, Heineman will likely never have the defensive impact of a center like Eller, but he is poised to contribute in myriad other ways that Eller did not during his tenure.

Not bad for a throw in.
Wasn't he the centerpiece along with the first? I know that many teams coveted him.

He was a 2nd round prospect. The first round pick was the main draw. Fair enough though, maybe not accurate to call him a throw in.

Thats the guy that will make me forget my boy Lekhonen

If they plan on using 3 lines, i could see Heineman Hage Beck line, forechecking, défense, shooting from the wing , hell that could be the best 3rd line one day

I remember at the time Hugues mentionning that they were really glad to have obtained Heineman.

Recently an article mentionned that in his draft year Heineman was ranked at 28th (e.g. a 1st rounder) by Yannick St-Pierre ("fan" ranking before he got hired to be video scout for the Habs).

Of course a 1st round pick is great but it's likely that Habs knew him well. Funny thing is numerous people complained at the time that we didn't get Pelletier instead of Heineman.
