Best thing about him is he knows what he is.

He skates hard. He hits anything he can. He gets involved on the forecheck and he never hesitates to drive the net or use his shot.

I think he's making a very very solid case to be a fixture in our bottom 6 long term.

He’s got enough skill and intangibles to be effective in a Top-6 role if need be. He’ll never be a superstar but he very well could have the same impact Lehkonen has had in Colorado.

Anderson is a closer comparison to Heineman than Lehkonen. Lehkonen was awesome defensively, and I'm not seeing that from Heineman right now.

Rookies rarely have the defensive game ready to go. Hopefully he has a good enough understanding of the game to acquire those skills

I think his floor is 3rd line. Too skilled to end up as a 4th liner. He will only get better.

I sure hope so but he never really lit up in the ahl. I think ceiling is 3rd liner which isn’t bad at all.

He's smarter than Anderson, but its nowhere near close to Lehkonen's smarts.

His play without the puck looks much closer to Anderson than Lehkonen right now.

Adjusting to the NA game he did score 22 goals in 59 AHL games.

The only reason Lehkonen has that impact in Colorado is because he’s put on lines with the best players in the world, like MacKinnon and Rantanen. When he was put with Suzuki in Montreal, it didn’t amount to much. So while I agree they are similar players, Heineman is not going to be a Top-6 player in Montreal with the lack of high end talent we have.

But like Lehkonen, he could be an important piece and fixture of the 3rd line with the ability to move up the lineup for a couple of games if there’s an injury.

I like what what he brings, but to be useful he'll need to play "pedal to the medal" ALL the time. He hasn't shown that yet, but if he can, he'll be a fun 3rdliner for sure.

You’ve had some zingers lately. The one about Heineman shooting like shots grow on trees was a particular favourite lol

At forward our major issue is 2C. With Slaf, Suzuki , Caulfield and I will say Demidov, we need 2 players to complete the top 6, and one needs to be a 2C. We have potential with Dach and Laine being at the top of the list. There are some others of which a guy could step up.

Bottom 6 will see a huge transition with Dvo, Army and maybe Evans going. We have a bunch of guys competing for jobs and Heineman looks like he is grabbing a spot. But more on the way like FlorianX and Tuch.

And a team needs different styles and while I like east-west razzle dazzle play, a team needs guys like Heineman and the north - south bull in a China shop play , just like an in prime Gallagher was a big weapon for us.
