I sure hope we don't trade him to Col.I would play the moose on the first line when he comes back. He can score, he can skate and he can hit. That line needs a different element and he brings it.
A few years ago, I got hit by cars twice in the span of a week. One, I walking down on the sidewalk and this idiot hits me coming out of the dep parking lot. Was on his phone. Knocked me into the street. Corner of Pierrefonds Blvd and Jacques Bizard. A few days later, I'm walking through the parking lot to get to Tim Hortons and this idiot backs out of her parking spot and hits me and didn't even stop! Probably didn't even know she hit me. Blvd Saint Jean where the Walmart is.
I'm 6'3" and people still find ways to hit me. You can't see me?! How!!
I live in the city. I've never been hit by a car in the city. Only in the west island. I don't like the west island.
Ideally Newhook moves to the bottom six, as the someone else brought in is a top 6 forward. So would Newhook be a better bottom six C than Dvo? I'd have to see. If Newhook isn't, then he's just not a bottom 6 C and is only a bottom 6 winger. Because Dvo isn't exactly a great bottom 6 C.
Ok, but he's on pace for 26 points over 82 games this year playing entirely in the top 6.To me Newhook is in the mould of Andrew Shaw in terms of usage not style.
Can fill in at C or on your 2nd line but ideally should be 3rd liner winger utility man used to fill in when injuries occur. Should be good for 15 goals, 40 points a year. If he can become a solid PKer I'd be very happy.

So, to me he hasn't proven that he can get 40 points playing on a 3rd line. But I'd like it if he could do that.
A less physical Andrew Shaw who can't play on the PK and has bottom-shelf scoring/60 and scoring/game stats because, unlike Andrew Shaw, he plays top6 minutes. To me Newhook is in the mould of Andrew Shaw in terms of usage not style.

Yeah with two boat anchors. Last year he was pacing for 50. And since Dach has come back he’s pacing for around 45.Ok, but he's on pace for 26 points over 82 games this year playing entirely in the top 6.
He really got screwed this year. Dach sucked. Then he got his game back and they stuck them with Laine who sucks. It’s okay to blame Newhook for inconsistency and lack of finish but not all of it is his fault. So, to me he hasn't proven that he can get 40 points playing on a 3rd line. I also think Newhook belongs on a 3rd line. Will be interesting to see his production there...Yeah with two boat anchors. Last year he was pacing for 50. And since Dach has come back he’s pacing for around 45.

I think 3rd line is where he belongs. Put him with Heineman and Evans and that’d be a really solid line.
Laine has sucked. Flat out. His numbers are worst in league just like Dach’s were. But that’s to be expected as he’s returning from injury. Dach’s numbers have improved and I expect the same will happen with Laine.I also think Newhook belongs on a 3rd line. Will be interesting to see his production there...
I'm hoping it's not that either Newhook or Laine suck, it's more that they have particular strengths and weaknesses and were definitely not a match. I'm hoping... And I hope to see Newhook on the 3rd line next year and Laine with either Suzuki or Demidov - if they're back. If it's true Hughes is negotiating with Armia and Evans, there's only so many spots...
Laine has the same number of points as Newhook, and 4 less than Dach - in half as many games.Laine has sucked. Flat out. His numbers are worst in league just like Dach’s were. As a rookie, he is currently 11th in points, even though he missed all those games! Points aside, he is a solid skillfull player!Ok, but he's on pace for 26 points over 82 games this year playing entirely in the top 6.

We were talking about Laine, Dach, and Newhook in a side conversation. Not Heineman. As a rookie, he is currently 11th in points, even though he missed all those games! Points aside, he is a solid skillfull player!
The reality is that too many plays die on Newhook's stick (or off of his stick when he loses the puck, misses the net entirely, etc.)Laine has sucked. Flat out. I get that. He’s been disappointing but I think he’s also shown he can be a better player. The reality is that too many plays die on Newhook's stick (or off of his stick when he loses the puck, misses the net entirely, etc.)
6 points in the last 7 games, I think, yet it still feels so much like he's just really fast, with nothing happening for it.
I think that impression comes from so many plays that Peter out. If he had the skills to go with the speed, he'd probably be a 100-point producer.
Extremely frustrating to watch.
I don't see things getting better with third line minutes.
In the bottom-6, it will just be frustrating a different way, because he doesn't play physical hockey to be a forechecking grinder and is too bad defensively to be part of a checking line.
What would be his role in the bottom-6?
He may have paced for 50-points over parts of a season, but he's still never had more than 34 points in a season at the NHL level, for whatever reason and is a strictly negative player since joining the Habs.
Projections are only good if you are continually improving (like with Suzuki), or if you have a track record to show you can get there.
Newhook just isn't good enough, IMO, to be part of our top-9 if we expect to become a contender. It's that that he's awful per se, but it would clearly be a question of satisfying ourselves with what is already on the team, rather than going forward to look for something better, whether that is to come from within the system, or outside the organization.
Standards for bottom-6 players should be as high as they are for top-6 players whom we seem to love to bash.
