Getting back to my comment in yesterday's GDT on Byfield and his ongoing embellishment, Friedman was talking this morning about it and how it is out of control come playoff time. He referenced the huge hit Wilson made on Carrier and how some younger players felt that should have been a penalty and said the way the game is evolving big hits like that just don’t happen anymore and when they do players think it should be a penalty or the player giving the clean hit has to fight (and don’t get me started on what constitutes a fight these days).
He was saying the league has to start calling the head snaps and dives and stop evening up the penalties with 2 minutes for tripping and 2 for embellishment and just call the diving and head snaps. If they did that Byfield would be in the box for half a game. He is 6’5” and plays like a weak kneed wimp always simping for cheap head snap and dive calls. For a guy who is 6’5” he falls around like he is 5’5”. Elias Petterson would be proud of him.
It also seems to me that the young players coming up just seem to all play that way now, with no honor, they get in scrums and keep the gloves welded on face washing, head locks, and take downs but won't drop the gloves. They chest up but they look like fools in these scrums already. I guess that is the impact of removing fighting from the CHL and no fighting in Europe or the American leagues. But it's not good for the game as players flop around like they have been shot and then pretend to act like tough guys in scrums. Players today would get f***ing killed if they played in the 80's, that is my Old Man Yelling At Clouds rant for the day!!!
