Trading Pettersson would be mind bogglingly dumb.
his whole body is like a forklift with its load extended all the way in the air and trying to move aroundThis guy is going to lead us through 4 grueling rounds of playoff hockey. Book it
PPG at 11.6M? Possibly but he would have to be a play driver. He would need to excel when the team was down a goal.If pettersson returns to scoring at a ppg pace while providing selke level defense, is he worth his contract? Or does it need to be 90+ ?
You earn ice timePettersson is 57th in TOI/GP for forwards.
Tonight he got 15:11 while playing with Linus Karlsson and Nils Hoglander
Meanwhile, Pius Suter got 18:02 of icetime.
At what point do we question why Tocchet is using him like a 3rd liner? Go compare the usages of every 10mill+ forward in the league with Pettersson, it's not even close.
Good way to lose the room by having double standards if soTocchet might not have the best judgement with how much he trots Deharnais out despite evidence not to.

Coach sets the lineup. At the end of the day everyone from the top down want to win, and it's clear as day, VD is not pulling on that rope.Yeah with dynamos like Juulsen and Freidman as potential options it's really puzzling.
You're blaming the wrong person for why Desharnais has been in the lineup so often.
Nobody but Hughes is pulling on that rope. Our defense is basically musical chairs on the Titanic.Coach sets the lineup. At the end of the day everyone from the top down want to win, and it's clear as day, VD is not pulling on that rope.
I think those are excuses given by his defenders, but I think his main issue is him being too hard on himself, and he probably recognizes it too. It's frustrating. I hope he can grow beyond it.So let me get this straight. Over the last few years it’s been:
His line mates. Not the player.
His wrist. Not the player.
His knee. Not the player.
People on his social media. Not the player.
The medical staff. Not the player.
His feud w JT. Not the player.
His ice time. Not the player.
The coach. Not the player.
This player simply has to many issues for him to be successful. It genuinely never ends with him. Theirs always an external factor that prevents him from being a consistent driver on the team.
It’s never him.
At the time of signing his extension, Pettersson was not providing Selke level two-way play, let’s make that clear.

But this chart, at his extension does indicate a high end offensive talent. At this point, if he has to sacrifice defensively to get his offensive game going, you do it, if nothing else but to build his value up again.
I’m also not sure how his health will hold up over time. If we’re trading Miller, might as well rebuild at that point. I can’t see Pete being able to match up against the likes of Mackinnon/McDavid/Drai in the playoffs with his small frame, falling and flailing all over the ice.
