Great. He’s a 11.6 million dollar streaky and injury prone player.

What a nightmare his extension is turning in to

I disagree, because people like you will find excuse after excuse to defend Pettersson, so it is exactly as I pointed out, there's a reason why I labeled you as someone who needs to take the homer glasses off for a reason, but you think what you want lol.

Every year there seems to be an issue with him now, and there's always an excuse for him it's getting old.

The signs have been there for a while but I'm going to post a nice timeline of some tweets over the years, this isn't something new with Pettersson. It's a mix jam of tweets tried to keep them in order, but just some over the years.

2021

2022

2023

2024

Then this year his slow start to the season, some sports guys saying it's like he forgot to play hockey again, then the 6 games without a point when Miller returned... Then he scores a couple goals and it's like the same thing again, he's back omg Pettersson is back, take that all you nah sayers blah blah blah. The most ironic part is he got injured after he fell down because he's too soft, guess he's not back :naughty:

You pretty much missed everything I said and the point of my comment… none of this changes a thing I said…

Now that Pettersson is out of the lineup, I actually don't want to see him back until he's 110%.

Whether this injury is new, or the "old lingering injury" that has been theorized, I want him to get back to the OG Pettersson that we all know and love. And take whatever time he needs to do that.

Hughes and Hronek are out anyway. There's really no reason to rush him back. Especially if you're thinking long term.

Once again the injury denier crowd takes have aged like rotten milk and sewage when it comes to EP.

Can't wait to read the posts in a couple years about how EP was totally healthy between the start of this season and dec 2024 where he only briefly became injured the exact moment he missed his first shift and all his struggles this season were totally unrelated to injuries. Probably will come with necro'd posts of the 10% of people insisting he's totally healthy to back up their point at that time too.

Weird time to post this like 5 mins after Allvin says paraphrased he needs to get stronger and grow up mentally

EP being out for injuries lines up with what it's looked like all season.

Unless there's some nuance or context that I'm missing, PA's take makes no sense. He had two criticisms of EP: getting an extension doesn't mean you can stop trying and EP didn't understand how hard to prepare in the offseason. Except the current struggles have looked exactly the same since last January, far preceding the contract signing, and his offseason training was significantly hampered by injury. It's either gamesmanship or delusion, presumably the former, and not real evaluation.

•Was not aware of how hard it was going to be to prepare for the season

^I find this quote by Allvin regarding Pettersson some what alarming. Going into your 7th NHL season after receiving a massive 11.6 million dollar deal "The highest in Canuck history". You would think Pettersson would know what it takes going forward into this season. Allvin also states that Pettersson has some maturing to do. It almost makes it sound like Pettersson barely trains in the offseason and doesn't take his hockey career too seriously. Maybe falling just as much as he did in his rookie year says something.

Is Allvin/Rutherford starting to question Pettersson's character? It starting to sound that way.

Not sure if I read it the same way you did. I read his "how hard it was going to be" part as the amount of focus that would be on him, how hard it would be to produce through that and the type of mental preparation etc it takes to break through that. Reason I read it that way is the part about life getting harder and feeling the pressure once you sign a big deal etc.

"Petey has shown up to this point that he is an extremely talented, quality player that could and should be a No. 1 centre. I believe in him. I believe that he's capable. (But) he needs to mature and understand that there are certain expectations and it does not get easier. And you need to face the music when things don't go well." this part also lends itself to how I read the first quotes. Seems to be more that hes questioning Peteys outlook and ability to just tough up and get it done even with increased adversity.

It doesnt read to me that hes questioning Peteys off season training or conditioning but moreso his mental preparation and toughness. He absolutely is calling Petey out in a fairly mild mannered way but doing so in a you have to mature and take the reins even when the pressure is on sorta way.

I am now almost certain that this management team will trade EP before the end of the season. The way iMac asked the question was specifically to single out EP. Totally different from JR's "we will not trade Miller" response too.

Sportsnet: Regarding those top players, Quinn Hughes has been fabulous on defence. Goaltender Thatcher Demko and forwards J.T. Miller and Brock Boeser all missed significant time, and then struggled to regain top form. And Filip Hronek is still out. But what about Elias Pettersson, who didn’t miss a game until Saturday?

Twice Allvin lumped Petey in with Miller though. He said they want to build around Petey and Millers long term deals. He said they want more from Brock, Petey and Miller when it matters. Doesnt feel like hes leaning towards a trade here. Honestly feel like its hard to win that trade so maybe my opinion does colour how I read it though.

I hope you're right because I'm guessing we will lose any trades involving those 2.

Pretty wild that a player signs a contract like Petey but has zero trade protection in the first year, that alone tells you management wanted an out, and IMO it looks like they're going to exercise it.

Like context and nuance that the GM of the Canucks might have?

Its takes an incredible amount of hubris to be so confident in an opinion on a Vancouver Canucks player that is so anomalous to the opinion of the GM of the Canucks, and the coach for that matter. And to go so far as suggesting that anyone who can’t see that Pettersson’s bad play is due to injury is “deliberately, wilfully, and in bad faith blind” is hilarious given how far off the mark this seems to be in Alvin’s eyes.

And how is this gamesmanship? Like, Allvin, in your world, knows Pettersson’s bad play is due to injury but is going to call him out publicly and embarrass him because that’s going to make him play better? How does that make any sense?

Delusion? Ya, either Allvin or you are deluded, but it’s definitely the GM of the Canucks…right? Couldn’t possibly be that you are missing some nuance or context?

GM just called him out publicly for not preparing properly and needing to mature. Sounds like Allvin has buyers remorse.

Why are so many people still defending or making excuses for him?

Under prepared
Physically weak
Immature
Often injured
Sulks
Streaky.

Not the superstar we were hoping for.
Someone else will find a use for him and we will do what we do best and consistently. Lose.
