This fanbase is biting hard on the narrative that Pettersson and Miller hate each other to the point the entire top 6 has stopped functioning.

That may prove to be the case but we are running with rampant speculation here.

There are other issues the team is working through that are being drowned out by speculative drama.
It's so dumb. It's pretty much clear as day that the root of most if not all issues are largely/potentially just the bottom 4-5 D being unable to move the puck out, which has been the same issue since the beginning of the season (coincidentally those problems seem to disappear somewhat when our other puck-mover in Brannstrom started playing well too), but people are instead looking at all these other convoluted reasons to blame and run wild with when it's completely unnecessary (at least until the main thing gets resolved somehow).

Yeah it's not cause they hate each other.

The top 6 has played like shit for a handful of games simply because they've played like shit. Tocchet putting an AHLer on each line last game didn't help, either (albeit PDG showed some hustle).

When Miller went out Petterson played with Boeser on his line and was deployed with Hughes a ton. It is a lot easier to produce in that situation.
If that was the case, then why would Tocchet torpedo it just because Miller returned? As I recall, that line of Pettersson-Debrusk-Boeser was on fire during their six game road-trip.

So if Tocchet broke them up only because Miller returned, than you can hardly blame Pettersson for being a little pissed.

Speculation that they don't like each other?

So an ex coach like Bruce Boudreau who came out publicly a couple days ago stating he knew of this feud between the 2 of them before he became the head coach of the Canucks is just him spitting more speculation? Looks like some of this fanbase is just having a hard time accepting the facts.

“Well, I mean, the easy thing would be to say yes,” Boudreau said when asked if this rumoured feud is a problem that the team needs to address. “It is a problem. And I knew they had a little bit of a problem between them before I got there. But I thought that was all straightened out and everything. So, I’m hoping it was a coincidence.

I quoted you, but this isn't a reply to you specifically.

However this is the type of horrible reply that misses the point of the post. Its not that he isn't playing with Hughes. Its that Hughes is litterally the only defensemen able to get the puck to any of our forwards in an offensive way. Breakout, zone exit, zone entry... all of it.

Its why Hughes numbers look so good, and everyone plays better with him. If we had another dman who was moving the puck at all it would matter less. But we don't and its ever frustrating to watch.

I do think Pettersson should be giving you more offensively, but there was just sooo many reply's like this that took the wrong message from the idea.
Appreciate the response but where does it stop?

Did Crosby fans point the finger at Malkin for all the years of having better line mates? Did they make it an excuse for why one or the other wasn't living up to his contract or why the team wasn't winning

Soucy is a good defenceman.
Hughes is the Noris winner. That combined is a really good situation.

Hughes 5v5 = 188 minutes w/ Pettersson
w/PP = 96 of 104
Soucy 5v5 = 145 minutes
Pettersson 333 of 441 minutes has been with Hughes and Soucy 5v5

So were talking 429 of 545 minutes with Hughes and Soucy. It's not a big excuse when 80% of your ice time to produce is a good situation
Holy f***. No, I’m not vouching for the truth behind it at all. I’m just surprised with all of the speculation that it hasn’t been mentioned.
I'm just surprised you brought it up is all.

Remember when Miller, with 2 post season runs available on an incredibly team friendly deal didn’t garner much interest? A big, rugged, physical point per game Winger/Center who could win faceoffs, PK and run a power play, but nobody would offer much of a return? Remember how bizarre it was? I’m thinking GMs maybe had some inside intel…

Seth Jones for Elias Pettersson...zero retention on either side. Both need change of scenery and both are overpaid. Who says no who needs to offer more? Chicago adds over 2mil more with term

We don't even know that Pettersson is pissed.

But also, I think its worth pointing out that this team works on its players.

Management has made comments that Boeser let up a bit and they'd like to see him push through. They've talked about how Desharnais has more to give. They've talked about Pettersson learning from the playoffs. They've made comments about Joshua's conditioning and how he needs to play.

They've moved players around the lineup for different looks a lot and I think there is a real effort to make players more rounded players by taking away their comfy areas.

Stylistically, this management group is not shy of pushing buttons and stress testing their players.

There's a good argument that a lot of that is for the better in the long run but management and coaching does seem comfortable not putting their absolute best into every game - they will sit the better player to work through something with them or someone else.

I would suspect they see upside in dragging their players over coals to make them tougher and as long as we remain a playoff team, that kind of tinkering or delaying of a true remedy (in regards to adding the needed D man) will continue.
