I dont remember this.

I remember that she said that when (NJ Scouts?) asked around about Luke Hughes nobody of the coaches he had played for would go to bat for his character.

orbecausemillergetstoplaywithquinnhughesandhedoesnt...
So an 11.6 million dollar player won’t produce unless he plays w hughes?

Ok, super

This is wild

All Pettersson has to do is be so good that he's a fixture on PP1 and the coaches are forced to use him with Hughes because thats what makes us win.

but nah instead of fans just saying he will be because he isn't fully healthy right now it's everyone else's fault.

Remember when we called him alien because he made otherwordly plays? Where the hell is that guy? Such a bizarre player development. He is getting worse and we get excited when he strings 10 good games together. This guy was electric and had the arena buzzing with a Benning defense passing and transitioning the puck up the ice so don't tell me we need ONE more good puck mover for an 11.6M player to perform.

Some data from SportlogIQ. Found this particularly interesting:

Pettersson’s defensive impact often gets overlooked. This season, he leads all forwards with 237 defensive plays, which include 164 blocked passes. In addition, his 104 puck-battle wins are 11th most at the position. Although Pettersson’s point production has slipped, he continues to be a positive influence on the Canucks’ results.

If there is one positive takeaway from this year it's this. He's without a doubt one of the best defensive Cs in the league. A great second half and he could even win the Selke.

The only issues are the poor start still too much inconsistent play and some of his physical limitations in 1 v 1 and faceoffs. But he's right there if he can pull it together

Everyone just needs to take a breathe let the boys bond and hopefully continue to get healthy over the holidays.

I'm going to the Ottawa game tomorrow and will remain an optimist. It's going to be a break out...i almost feel sorry for the Senators

I quoted you, but this isn't a reply to you specifically.

However this is the type of horrible reply that misses the point of the post. Its not that he isn't playing with Hughes. Its that Hughes is litterally the only defensemen able to get the puck to any of our forwards in an offensive way. Breakout, zone exit, zone entry... all of it.

Its why Hughes numbers look so good, and everyone plays better with him. If we had another dman who was moving the puck at all it would matter less. But we don't and its ever frustrating to watch.

I do think Pettersson should be giving you more offensively, but there was just sooo many reply's like this that took the wrong message from the idea.

Totally. Pettersson is the only regular forward above 50% in score adjusted xGF% when Hughes is off the ice, at 52%. Boeser, Miller and DeBrusk are in the 38-42% range. The entire team is at 42% when both Pettersson and Hughes are on the bench. Maybe Pettersson could be better but don’t think anyone is running 60% xGF ratios when not playing with Hughes on this team.

Bingo. Also agree that it's crazy how much his defensive presence goes underappreciated here.

In that sense the deployment of Pettersson away from Hughes has some logic, but if Tocchet is going to do that he needs to have Pettersson's back.

Hasn't been the same player offensively since the Matheson headshot/Kotkaniemi injury incident.

11th most puck battle wins is counter to all the weak narrative when it comes to EP.

I'm biased towards 2 way forwards and I know EP is not quite Bergeron (or even Stone) yet, but I would consider a PPG Selke level centreman extremely valuable (i.e. think Barkov, Eichel while playing with much lesser linemates)
