If Petey doesn't show signs of improvement before the end of the year, you deal him before his NMC kicks in.
Of course, the other issue could be that Tocchet's system doesn't work around Petey's skillset. The common factor in Petey's decline is Tocchet.
At this point, who knows. At some point, though, Rutherford will need to remove himself from the media and let Allvin be the face of the front office while the season is going on.
This is such a weird take.he's really good but what would he be if he could put on more muscle? could be the best dman since lidstrom if he put serious effort into training.
Up until you check who posted itThis is such a weird take.
San Jose , they can afford to put him on wingTrade him to a quieter market with cap space and he'll bounce back and be a great player for years to come. Vancouver is a nightmare if their fans and media turn on you, so I hope for his sake he gets a change of scenery and doesn't have to deal with all that nonsense. There are some teams out there that could handle his cap hit and if he can be a true #1 C for them, the cost won't be too prohibitive as the ceiling continues to rise. Maybe Columbus or something.

Of course he doesDoes Pettersson become the next Eichel if moved?
the issue is his nmc. i assume it kicks in on july 1st. canucks may not get another chance to move him.Never sell low!
Hope for a bounce-back 2nd half or next season, then trade him.
Maybe Precious Petey will feel like playing hard for a year or so before something else brings down his desire to compete, but hopefully the Canucks have traded him by then. Send him to Buffalo or Chicago, they're so desperate, and have poor GMs that are ripe to be fleeced..
Petey is basically an introverted Laine. Playmaker rather than scorer.
If he is as miserable as everyone is saying, they won't have a problem moving him because he will waive the nmc. They just won't get as good of a return.the issue is his nmc. i assume it kicks in on july 1st. canucks may not get another chance to move him.
This is the move. The Canucks can semi-retool around Hughes on the fly with the amount of cap space they would have.I have his jersey on my wall.
Sell.
If he's rebounding, it's not going to be here. He has needed a fresh start for years now. The long feud with Miller, injuries and whatever else has worn him down to a shell of his former self. I think this is just who he is now - a great two way centre who will get you 60 points a season.
That isn't worth anywhere near 11.6 million per year and they made a big mistake paying for past performance. A lot of it was just bad timing because of how quickly his performance fell off a cliff. You can't have this player chronically underachieving with a full NMC. Someone else will buy low and get them out of the contract.
It will be extremely bittersweet to lose him, because he was the franchise at one time. But he lost the fire at some point in early 2024 and never got it back.
11 million for what is essentially an 80-90 point player that is not getting better and that doesn’t show up when games matter is not easily tradeable at all.Contract is easily tradeable, if Vancouver wanted to go that route
Petey's there for good now. But Hughes might demand a trade. The fact he never got to play with his bro in 4 nations will make it all the more tempting to jump ship to NJ asap.

How about Jack and Luke to Vancouver brother?
