I agree

I think he bounces back next year in what should be one of the biggest comebacks in recent memory if he pulls it off
this wont last forever, even elite players have offseasons, look at OV as a quick example. he had 3 seasons where he finished in the 30s. sure one was a shortened season but I dont recall the other 2 are.

I think players sometimes get a little too comfortable and things get a little too easy, if you look at his production over the previous 2 seasons it seems like he figured it out, he just needs to realize his weaknesses and work on them.

maybe coaching change is needed. could also be on a personal level. I know from experience when Im going through tough times Im not the most enjoyable person to be around at work and it effects my overall work ethic.

Whenever I see a #5 OA #1 centre fall of the edge like he has at 26, I’m less worried about the current situation than the long term. I find consistency, at any decent level, is the recipe for an extended career. I doubt very much he’ll be around at 34 putting up 80-90…

I kind of laugh at the knee jerk reactions with star players having down years, and did same with EP. He’s just so incredibly talented, and players have down years. And sometimes top players dont work out together. Truly thought he would turn it around a bit with the JT drama over.

Now, each game and interview just becomes more suspect. It really is crazy statistically at this point, and how he approaches the media.

And it just hit me. I feel like I’m watching Lias Andersson - emotionally.

Absolutely not a comparison as a player, but cry baby vibes for sure.

8 years in the league….. let’s call a spade a spade here.
Absolutely no reason to call a spade a spade here from Canucks fan perspective.

He needs a fresh start and it needs to be in an environment with less pressure. He’s a super talented player but I don’t think a high pressure market like Vancouver is right for him.

Double up or quit
iu

I'll wake you up, but stay in bed
Don't get up, go down instead

People have to remember that pro athletes are human beings that deal with the same issues that regular people deal with as far as personal problems and mental health issues. You don't go from 100 pts to 50 without something serious going on whether it's an injury or something going on in his personal life.
by that principle , players falling off after signing contracts is due to personal issue or anything else and not fluke seasons.

That is some serious easy way to cope. Perhaps it's just the motivation isnt there or the lack of effort. Because it clearly never happened before.

No he has not. Not even close. I just looked up his stats. He has had 2 seasons with a ppg. Two lucky seasons. Bottom 6 player. Not a top 50 player in the league.
He came into this season with 412pts in 407 games played. All while playing top line minutes.

Not even close to a point per game though over his career though, bottom 6 production, apparently.

Some real geniuses on this board.

I feel bad for the EP believers. I’ve been warning them about him for years on these boards and they just laughed. I wonder if they are still laughing? Because I am laughing my ass off.

Ive never seen you before in my life.

its like me trashing 100 prospects.

5 of them turn out out bad, and I will come out and take credit for warning people about said xxx prospect not turning out.
🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

So many people saying he is just having a down year like he wasn't awful for half of last season too. If you do the split from before he signed the contract and after... paints a clear picture. His play fell off almost to the day he signed it

At least he gets along with teammates and says all the right things to the media.

Seriously, I think the problem here is that dude’s stock has cratered. Van probably isn’t willing to face the reality they can’t give him away for free. Who is paying 11 mil for that mess?
