It’s asinine an injured player playing through an injury is bad… he then has a slow start for a month… but let’s still jump on him…

Would have been the worst trade in franchise history, might as well move the team at that point .
All people see are stats, they never realize how much of a negative influence Tkachuk is to his team. He is a complementary player, not a leader.

Now five more games of data:
- Still zero bursts in the top category.
- Six more in the middle category (14 in 14 to 20 in 19).
- 30 more in the lowest category (7 per game in his first 14, 6 per game since).
Play has improved but his top end speed still looks the same. Obviously not holding him back but will be interesting to follow as the season goes on.
He's doing better no doubt about it. But he still is extremely reluctant to shoot, I counted three times where he had a solid chance to shoot and ended up passing (and nothing really of consequences resulted). Also he still has difficulty getting open on the PP ( yesterday on our first PP unit even with Boeser, Miller and Hughes gone, he was not getting the puck much, with it being left with Garland to direct shots at the net). So happy he is doing better but still has a ways to go I feel.

May as well move the team because they traded a 90 point Centre for an 80 point winger. Now I've heard it all. And I was not advocating this trade but your post has to be sarcasm and I'm just not picking it up. Tkachuk is NOT a complimentary player.
You're obviously too young to remember Vaive and Derlago for Tiger or Cam Neely and a 1st for Barry Pederson.

He’s the 5th highest player in the NHL. He has to be the best player on the team day in and day out for 7 years. He can’t disappear for 40 games. That’s insane.
That’s what he sighed up for with his contract.
100 points per year MINIMUM for 7 years straight. Hard stop. Anything else is a bad contract. God forbid anybody expect that from him.

haha last 20 years? in NHL history only one guy has ever had seven straight 100 pt seasons
Nice to see Pettersson rounding into form. Still a ways to go, but he may have just found his wingers.

You can get away with a 4-5-6 M dollar going on cold stretches. You can’t win with an almost 12M dollar disappearing for half a year

One interesting thing I’ve noticed is that he’s not flying down the wing anymore on rushes. Rather, he looks to be sticking to playing down the middle during the breakouts and focusing on facilitating the rush vs carrying it on his own.
Curious if it’s a physical limitation or seeing that his new linemates need a facilitator more so than a carrier, or a combination of both.
Regardless, has been really good to see him actively engaged again. This is what people were talking about when wanting him to elevate his linemates - he’s clearly putting Sherwood and Debrusk in positions to succeed, and his defensive awareness on top of that has allowed them to tilt the ice significantly.
If they get this version of Petey as the rest of the team gets healthier and (hopefully) figures out the power play, he puts them in a position to contend.
Imma take a wild guess and say it's not Elias Pettersson.

As a percent of cap at time of contract starting, Pettersson is the 21st highest paid player in the league. Actual dollar amount is not meaningful in a cap era.
Being outside the top 20 in cap burden when signed is about right, if not an underpayment. Also the minimum expectation you are putting is for him to do something only one player has ever done, so... maybe a bit unreasonable (to put it mildly).
Incidentally, if you think he should have 100 points even when he's no longer going to be a top 20 contract in raw dollars 7 years from now just because he is top 5 now, then you don't seem to have a consistent standard at all.

Also I wasnt being sarcastic, I think Brady is being played out of his depth on a bad team and he’s just overrated because of his brother and the fact like he’s physical.
Btw, I’m going to cherry pick here, EP is less than 2 years removed from a 100 pts season. Trading a 100pts center for a 80 pts winger is a terrible move

I think the PP thing is just coaching decision, Tocchet runs P1 and he loves his point shot and tip in
Where are you getting the 21st highest paid player stat from? Are you counting expired contracts like Ovechkin and Malkin's previous deal?
I think at a certain point it doesn't really matter whether Petey has the 5th highest cap hit or 10th or even 20th. At the end of the day it's a big contract and the team is banking on the player being a star player. I think you can win by overpaying your star player. I don't think you can win when your star player isn't one of the best players in the game.
Sure, but he was being asked to do things only one other player has done in nhl history… there is a huge dishonesty being asked of this player, that has little to do with him being good, or even living up to his current contract
We're talking about one certain poster here asking Petey to do things only one other player has done in NHL history correct? To be clear I wasn't engaging with such posts.
