The bolded is all of us isn't it? I do find small moments of joy though. I've also only been watching since I was about 8 years old so later 1990s. People who have been watching from 1970 have it much worse.

I dunno. I've been watching since some point in the 80s because I still f***ing love hockey.

You know you're allowed to stop doing things that you don't enjoy anymore, yeah? Like I'm not even trying to be rude - so many folks spend years of their adult lives just making themselves miserable because they just keep playing the character of their past self and doing things that no longer add anything to their lives because its just what they do. "I don't wanna" is an entirely sensible reason to not watch a hockey team anymore.

Question: What is his usual self over the course of his career?

EP40 is not a consistent threat like Mack or McDrai. He is a good player who occasionally goes on heaters. Telling yourself anything else is just you refusing to accept the reality of the player

Hence the frustration with him being paid like them.
That is the big thing with him. Stars in the league, especially as highly paid as he is, have consistency in their games. Petey is a streaky player who hasn't proven that he can bring it to another level when it counts, like the playoffs.

Yeah but we should have traded EP’s ass and keep Zad and Lindholm

We made the right call on letting them walk, but they were both really good for us in the post season. They might not be acclimating well there yet, but they both learned our systems and were effective players. I suspect they'd be doing better here rather than there!

I don't think Z would be doing as well as he did last season, he was specifically looking to get big minutes even though he played his best while being somewhat sheltered. His most frustrating moments came when he tried to do things past his abilities and seems like he's doing that in spades in Boston.

I'm going through a bit of an existential crisis rn and really needed to see this. Thanks homie hahahahahahahaha.

Except he isn't being paid like them. Draisatl was the most sweetheart deal in the last decade because he was nowhere close to the player he is today. Now he's paid 3.4M more than Pettersson. Likewise, McDavid will easily command 15-16M when his deal runs out. So there's a pretty clear separation.

Mack is the closest dollar amount wise but also signed his deal three years ago. Everyone knows the cap will be going up, thus players are demanding bigger slices.

Even if we wanted to argue Pettersson is overpaid, it's by a slight amount at best: 1M to 1.6M. You don't wring your hands over that much with a player of his caliber. Yes, he's struggled for one reason or another but we know what he's capable of.

If nothing else, we're going to ride out the season with him. So there's no point belaboring his struggles. Especially when he's actually been very good of late.

They problem is we would have signed them to long term contracts where their regular season performance would be extremely crucial.

They can no longer sleep walk until April

Not to derail the thread but Zadorov playing exactly as he is playing right now would be our third best defenceman this season.

So I think he looks to be "back" at this point.

He doesn't look like the player who was knocking on the door of being a top 5 center in the league, but he's at least back to scoring at a PPG pace, which should be his baseline.

Right now he has 11P in 17GP. When he reaches PPG for the season, I think we will know that the worst is behind us.

Still a lot of differences in his game right now compared to his "peak" form, but I will be more than happy to have PPG Pettersson back.

Yeah he's still not quite himself but he's showing flashes. He'll be fine.
And honestly, as frustrating as they've been to watch lately, I'm pretty confident that if he is back in serviceable form (and Boeser is healthy), they will be more than alright by the time playoffs roll around. Regardless of how they're playing now, there IS a ton of forward depth there.

I hope Garland is gone from PP1 after Boeser gets back - he does a lot of things very well and he's an elite player protecting the puck and making plays through the muck under pressure, but he's definitely not a finisher and has less to offer when given time and space.

They need at least one defenseman before the trade deadline.

I hope Soucy can pull it together, but he's not looking like the same steady presence as last year.

Also not 100% convinced yet that Branstrom is the long-term answer, some fraying around the edges starting to show, but time will tell.

Hronek needs to get it together - I'm confident he will, but he's really out of sorts out there right now, always seems to be a bit out of position/the flow of play.

Meyers... looks pretty good?

It’s a step in the right direction for sure but he still has one more step to justify the contract.

Pettersson is tied with Miller for goals now. Miller's totals of course has enhanced by 2 empty netters. Just remember the double standard that exists when talking about these two players.

Wonder if people will still question his injury cause the coach said he was fine…

For the record I think it is pretty clear Miller is hurt.

so what did we learn from this "power outage"? that he can spiral when he doesnt feel it? that he was indeed hampered by an injury? or that social media f***s you up?

I want to give it another 2 weeks to make sure its not a mirage.
