This is f***ing disgusting, some people are awful human beings. This is the kind of trash that is involved in the riots and keeps giving actual fans a bad name.

Hopefully Pettersson eliminates all contact with the outside world and finds himself again. His mental health is the most important thing right now.

I would bet that these are fans of rival teams putting gas on the fire and not actual Canucks fans.

Someone get this man Nathan MacKinnon's sport psychologist's number. Seriously, this is getting out of hand.
Totally forgot about that, Mack’s psychologist did a phenomenal job on him bouncing back and becoming the dominant player he is today.

Canucks fans need to relax, coaches change, team play style changes, linemates change, star players almost always bounce back.

Those comments are disgusting. As hard as it was for the Sedins (especially since it was the media who was making the stupid comments half the time), if you can't shut off the noise in this perpetually online world it's even worse now.

For as much as it seems like the sky is falling with this start, they're still on pace for 99 points with Petey being no better than Teddy Blueger. Resolving this situation unlocks the path to contention, so here's hoping he can pull off whatever he did in the 2021/22 season and fix it.

His decline in play started before the avalanche of unhappy fans or posters.
That decline caused the increase in that type of comments.
Cause and effect.

He had more hits than shots, this should be a hint.
The coach "fixing" him.
EP's favourite player was Forsberg but he can't play like him, then Tocchet starts in with his type of player to reinforce EP's attempts to be "Forsberg 2.0"

That's one idea? Thought? Reason?

Maybe all the second contract stuff and too much "tough love" in pressuring him to sign a contract he may not of wanted forced him to see the game as a business and took the joy out of it.

There are some real dark possibilities too. Addiction for one.
Another, HE WANTS OUT.

Social media is against him, coach, fans and now team mates.

His time here is near the end. Unless he has a renaissance and is potting 4 or 5 points for several games in a row the heat isn't going to be turned down..
Holy shit guys, come on. I come to HF Boards for more analytical based takes on the team, not to read this trash. Stick to Reddit please if you’re some conspiracy theory wing nut.

Still makes them a waste of skin.
I wouldnt go tell Messier that he is of no worth and he should kill himself just because I dislike him.

I swear to god, society as a whole has declined significantly.

It's a post-COVID thing. I'm thoroughly convinced it f***ed with everyone's brain chemistry, and the social isolation didn't help. Add that to the fact that cost of living spiraled completely out of control, and it's no wonder things are going off the rails.

I think it's been around longer than that. I can't share the image due to profanity, but I always think back to "Unreal Tournament 2004 lends incontrovertible proof to John Gabriel's Greater Internet f***wad Theory".

Normal Person + Anonymity + Audience = Total f***wad.

I would wager most are Canucks fans. They wanted to run Naslund out of town. The Sedins. Luongo. Whoever.

Unfortunately as the Trump era has dragged on (and even worse, appears set to drag on even longer), people think it's become more acceptable to just be outwardly vile.

People have always been jerks and there's less moderation on social media channels for whatever reason these days. You also see a ton of bots post controversial messages to draw reactions or attention to specific channels or profiles.

Edit: I clicked on one profile and they follow 680 profiles and have 2 people following them.

Social media + bifurcating society (have's and have not's) is leading to some pretty weird/extreme tribalism. Covid was just a massive shared moment affecting the web enabled world. people took sides and became obsessed, reasonableness went out the window as nearly everyone went down the rabbit hole to some degree Some never came back out. Negative effects still linger as people seem to look for ways to vent outrage.

I don’t understand how can anyone let sports affect you this much. It’s entertainment ffs.

It's because they're mentally ill. If I was a public figure and read that kind of stuff, I would try to remind myself that these people are actual nut jobs and I shouldn't take anything they say seriously. Although I imagine that's easier for some than others based on individual mental makeup, but also probably tougher on younger people with how "online" their lives are.

People being shitheads like this online started long, long before covid.

Absent a public request from Pettersson, I really doubt management trades him. It's the kind of move that will blow up in your face and get you fired.

That said, I wonder how much of this Pettersson can endure before he asks for an out.

I hope you don’t really mean this. This type of language is akin to victim blaming and justifying the actions of online bullies. Petey didn’t “cause” these type of disgusting comments.

On the other side: Committing 90 M USD to a 40 point player who cannot be traded also gets you fired.

Allvin cannot feel comfortable right now.

Well his decline in play 100% caused the shift in rhetoric.

But that's different than saying it's his fault those kind of comments are being made or that they are in any way justified.

I think this also has a lot to due with the nefarious rise of sports betting and how it has woven itself into every possible fibre of pro sports. Unhappy people that feel powerless to change their own lives tend to find meaning in external experiences.

i'm sure he doesn't, but that extension has Rutherford's fingerprints all over it. I highly doubt the trade threat was something Alvin came up with.

He hasn't done anything to deserve this level of hate.

What's with the pearl-clutching and hand-wringing of "modern society"? The internet and social media have simply given a voice that connects people around the world and there are, unfortunately, a lot shitty people who now have access to famous people — either directly or bi-proxy. But those people were still shitty before the advent of smart phones and Twitter.

Nasty comments are a part of being in the public eye. But if you ignore them, it's just baseless nonsense out in the ether.

lol yeah, people have always been shitty! The fact that theyve all been given a tool they keep in their pocket that allows them to spew hate anonymously at anyone they want, whenever they want doesn't make any difference at all!

If they don't get this resolved, it has the potential to destroy this core's chances of ever truly competing.

I could see both Demko and Hughes walking for fresh starts elsewhere when their contracts expire. The latter especially if the Devils are contenders - Quinn would push them over the top, move closer to his parents and get to play every game with his brothers. I don't see him giving up that opportunity regardless of whether or not he's Captain here.

Tavares was the Islanders captain too and look what happened.

Fully agreed with this. It's one thing to shit on his head on a random message board, it's another thing entirely to threaten him and maliciously tear him down directly. These people need to f*** off.

They ran Naslund out of town too. I remember the hate in 2007 when he went through the 20 game goalless stretch and forgot the puck at center ice on a shootout attempt.

This is not a fun place to play when things go poorly. We are Montreal-West.
Another reason why it’s so frustrating seeing ppl pile on EP, it’s like we never learn

Tocchet won't do it, but I would play EP as much with Quinn as possible, and give him the plum ozone time. LIke literally do this 5-10 games and hopefully pop in some goals and help him gain back his confidence.

Quinn really is the engine of this team.
