Player Discussion Elias Lindholm

The excuse was he missed camp because his wife was having a baby, then it was his wrist, now it is his back, there are more excuses put out there for this guy, how this won he did not play well, and his contract was an overpayment. He had all these injuries this year, only to multiply as he ages, something to look forward to.

That's how UFA works. He's still a big improvement on Zacha IMO. Pastrnak and Geekie played some unbelievable hockey from January on but they really popped off at the end of the year with Lindholm offensively and defensively. I mean, are you happy with Zacha scoring 14 goals and a little over half a point per game playing with one of the best playmaker and goalscorer in the league just because he makes 3 mill less? I'll gladly pay 3 mill more for a guy who has proven in the past that he can actually produce well playing with talented players.

Did you forget that Zacha had 60 pts last year, he makes less than 3 mil than Lindholm. Lindholm had 4 goals 10pts in the last 10 games when these games when those games meant squat, and he was playing with two of the hottest players in the league. I remember earlier in the season I was checking to see if even played because he was so invisible out there. Now I will sit back and read all the excuses that will be fed to us like they have had all year for this guy.

he picked it up at the end of the year, coming close to the expectations I had. 60 pts, good two way play and good at the face off dot.
In the last 10 games:

Lindholm 4 goals + 6 assists
all 4 goals after a primary assist from Pasta

Geekie 8 goals + 10 assists
7 goals after a primary assist from Pasta
1 goal after a primary assist from Zacha

Pasta 9 goals + 13 assists
6 goals after a primary assist from Geekie
3 goals after a primary assist from Lindholm

No matter how you slice it, Lindholm best case is one of the worst #1C in hockey and worse than 2023-24 Coyle\Zacha.

So the question becomes, is he strictly a placeholder for an attempt to lure Eichel here after next year?

Should Boston see if they can sign Tavares on a 2-3 year deal and see what shakes out after its up instead?
I’d sign Tavares.

Back injuries suck

If I didn’t experience myself I’d tell him toughen up but significant

Outstanding 3 zone player and 55 % FO

Excellent with Pasta & Geekie
Yes, a great signing. I wish Donny would get to work and extend him now. I just know every GM in the league is salivating as they wait for 2032 so they can sign him to a long term deal after they see how well it worked out for us for eight years.

This post is asinine. Lindholm didnt have a good year, but he definitely turned it on at the end of the year. Teams are never going to be "lining up" to sign a 38 year old. But I am sure this is a "tongue in cheek" post .

He had one good season back in 2021 so there’s that. It’s pretty well known that average players who had a career season five years ago always pay off when you throw a lot of money at them. We just need to be patient with him.
His wife had a baby. He hurt his wrist. He hurt his back. His mother-in-law had a toenail fungus. It’s remarkable that he had such a great season when you sit back and take it all into consideration. Each of the next seven seasons are going to be progressively better. Book it.

Saying he had “one good year” in Calgary is basically just a flat out lie. If 40 goals was an annual thing he wouldn’t be on a sub 8 million dollar salary, he’s not paid to be that.

78 pts
54 in 70 (29 goals)
47 in 56
82
61

Those were his five full seasons with the Flames. Let’s stop pretending he’s some scrub feasting on one good seasons he was a good player for them basically the entire time he was there.

Saying Lindholm is a top line center is a flat out lie.
He has fallen off the cliff since 2021-22

in '21-22 scored 82 points in 82 games, 1 ppg
in '22-23 scored 64 points in 80 games, 0.8 ppg
in '23-24 scored 44 points in 75 games, 0.58 ppg
in '24-25 scored 47 points in 82 games, 0.57 ppg

He’s a very sound player~ was looking for 22/38/60 not 15/25/40

But Monty sucked ass and the team never recovered

Expecting better 25-26
Was looking for 22/38/60 not

17/30/47

Had to add on extra 7 points he picked up last 5 games with Geekie & Pastrnak

Per Money Puck expected goals was 25 even only playing with Pastrnak & Geekie 12% of season

Yowza

I think you’re the only one who’s saying anything about him being a top line center lol
I am as well ~ as long as Sacco keeps that line together I’m going 27/40/67 from 17/30/47

Money puck had it above the former with 39 & 88

I can’t tell if this is serious or not but if you are Swedes age slower because of climate and diet. I could see him getting another deal. I’ve had elk a couple of times and it’s low in fat and great in a vegetable & potato stew

Any center playing with a 30+ goal scoring LW and 40+ goal scoring RW would be a 1C. Lindholm's end of the season performance makes me bullish on him going forward. This year is over, next.

Cashman played with Espo & Hodge
Gillies with Trottier and Bossy
Tikkanen with Gretzky and Kurri
Hadfield with Ratelle and Gilbert
Robert with Perrault and Martin
Maki with Makita and Hull
Elias Lindholm with Gudreau and Tkachuk

Complimentary historically 50-60 point guy with unique skillset to a pair of scorers that added 25-50 points

Knuble with Thornton/Murray

Rodrigues with Barkov/Reinhart

A lot of Crosby's seasons saw him with a complimentary winger riding shotgun because they knew he could lift them up into something more.

The back issue explains why his skating looked slow and laboured at times, especially during the 1st half of the season. Really lacked jump in his step. Hopefully this issue doesn't reoccur or linger into next year's camp and season.

I can't imagine trying to play hockey with a back injury. I've had them, not only is the pain excruciating but it seriously limits your mobility (and would even without the pain). Here's this guy playing in the NHL with one. I assume the injury finally healed because he did step up his game at the end of the season.

He definitely gets a pass from me. I look forward to seeing what he can do next year.

Yeah that’s kind of how I’d look at it… he’s not a “first line center” in the superstar, paid 10+ per sense but he is a player that can play on the first line if the fits there with linemates. I think he’s always been this way.

Yes I think he could be a 50 point guy on third line like Coyle or 65 -70 with Geekie & Pastrnak

Coyle had more assists in 5 games with the Avs than 5 months with Boston

Guentzel legit but Rusk who like on Boston third line would be Frederic points wise

Cassidy believed in pairs unfortunately for some reason wouldn’t give Krejci - Pastrnak
