Zacha isn't a better player just a slightly better fit for the first line right now. Poitras works well on the second.

But if you really want to nit pick he might be 4th best center on the team after Coyle lol.

Haha. Re-reading all the enthusiastically positive takes around here when EL’s and Zadorov’s deals were announced this summer was a fun diversion this morning.

They were the big prizes on the UFA market and Vancouver gave up a ton for each.

The Zadorov deal isn't as bad. He was the best option to add a big physical left-shot D-man and I think he'll hold up well, big thick durable player. Can handle the punishment over time.

The problem is the Bruins had far bigger needs for that cap space than a physical left-shot D-man.

The Lindholm deal was just a flat out mistake. He peaked 3 years ago and was clearly in a decline. Too much term, too much money, and didn't address any of their real needs (skating/shooting/puck distribution). Even still, for many the issue was the term, very few of us (if any) saw it going off the rails in Year 1.

25 games late but better late than never.

I actually think he could thrive in this role. It's where Vancouver played him and he was heroic for them in the playoffs. Yeah, he's making a lot of money for a '3rd liner' but if this is where he can be effective and contribute, so be it.
It doesn't really matter what line he's on as long as he plays a good 200-foot game and he scores more often. Go Elias! Prove the doubters wrong!

His offensive game is poo right now. Last night was a perfect example. He was fine defensively for the most part, won some faceoffs, worked hard, but at the end of the day, felt like a non-factor, or, at least, a non-factor in relation to his contract.

I was a big fan of the signing, and I really hope it works out eventually, but it's not trending well right now. The Bruins really need him to be the 55-60 point guy most of thought we were getting.
I was a fan of getting him, also. Unfortunately the team is poorly constructed and has been guilty of repeatedly and unexpectedly caving in games. Never saw this coming. I thought we were going to have a very good year after being energized by the acquisitions of Lindholm, Zadorov and Kastelic. We HAVE been better on the dot this year.

I get it that Lindholm is overpaid and not suited to be a 1C now. Will he be? I dont know.

But that deal more about the end of Bergeron and Krejci’s careers and the fact that we had no plan to address it. We got lucky with Krejci coming back for a year and both he and Bergie signing sweet deals. But the dearth of center prospects in our organization and a lack of #1 and #2 Centers on UFA (shocker that) left us where we are.

Not Lindholm’s fault he got paid.

I’m going to say this - I agree Lindholm has not lived up to expectations.
He is physical. He has done it in the past and he doesn’t look burnt out.

Matt Duchene. 4 years older. Went through a very similar spell after getting a hefty raise. He was cut loose a bit too early. Has done great for a couple of years now. Many here would have loved to grab him after the buyout.

I say Lindholm has a handful of good years ahead. Just needs to find his groove again.
I am not giving up on him too quickly. By the way - he performed quite well in the playoffs last year for Vancouver.

Just get in.

is it ligament damage or a broken bone he’s been playing with on his left middle finger ?

Yes, I thought Lindholm would be ok for the first 2 or so years and then really drop off as he got into his mid 30s, I didn’t expect year 1 to go this badly.

The issue with Zadorov in my view is that he has been a career 3rd pair guy and you can see it when you watch him play on this team and constantly get himself out of position, take Ill-timed penalties, and miss defensive assignment after defensive assignment. We’re at this point in the season and he is still having trouble catching on to the team’s system. There really is no improving hockey IQ. The guy turns 30 in a few months, he is what he is, and as a physical guy is likely to decline hard between now and the last year of his deal at age 36. I said it the second the deal was announced, bad signing and the national writers (less biased to the Bruins than our local writers and us fans) all agreed for a reason.

I know this was talked about in a different thread but under Monty I thought he was just awful. But I also look at the circumstances, learning a new system on a team that was also trying to learn a new system. He's been much improved under Sacco and the Box + 1 which suits his game much more. Frankly it's easier to process and he's reads have always been just so-so.

I don't like to say he's a 3rd pairing guy, to me he's like Carlo in that he's a No. 4 but like Carlo, has his limitations, but they are different limitations as they are different players. I don't think he has any business on a top pair, and I'd say the exact same thing about Brandon Carlo. A No.3 D-man you can elevate to the top pair and drop the No.2 down. It should be avoided with limited No.4's like Zadorov and Carlo. D-corps need to looked at more like Top 3/Bottom 3 with the 2/3s being flexible between them, and the 4/5s being flexible between them. You got to have some flexibility on your D corps as injuries will happen.

We also don't take into account how much of his mental errors are fatigue related. This team spends very little time in the offensive zone where D-men can catch their breath. Always back-peddling, always defending. So when you combine a so-so hockey IQ with the fatigue factor, it's amplified.

I disagree with the steep decline though. He's a thick player. Think OV, think Lucic. Those guys can give and take the physical punishment. It's the guys who play hard who don't have the physique to do so who break down quickly as they get older. Doesn't make it a great signing however, not a guy I would of hitched my wagon to.

Like DKH says....I think he's dealing with a hand injury. I was 100% aboard on the EL signing but if he's playing this way without an injury then you have to consider fixing that mistake. Although I feel it'll take until next seasons trade deadline to figure out if it's actually a mistake.

Good points. I think Carlo has been a true #4 for most of his career because he has a very high end defensive game and can be a near elite shutdown guy for stretches with good mobility for a big man. Perfect complement on the 2nd pair for a good #3.

I just don’t think Zadorov has the hockey IQ for the 2nd pair and he isn’t outstanding either offensively or defensively to make up for it. He has moved around to so many teams, I think those former GMs might have come to the same conclusion: that he is valuable, but limited, and not worth $5M at 6 years bringing him to the edge of his mid 30s. He’d be fine at $3.5M for a few years.

Unfortunately we need him to be playing well right now.

He's been playing with a bad wrist since last year. It was known when they signed him.

The article says undiscloed injury- how do we know it was a wrist? Not being a dick, just asking. And if this true, why was he not shut down to heal? Was this the same injury that caused him to miss a bunch of camp? Even more why not shut him down to get healthy?

I was very much in favor of the signing, but I would be dishonest if I was saying I’m not disappointed.

I got to watch him in person a few games ago (first game in 8 years) and I felt his positioning, anticipation, and stick work were all quite good.

Offensively he is fighting it, seems to me like he is hurt though I can’t confirm for sure.
