Yeah, heard that interview. Bill Peters has clearly been putting a lot of thought into lines already. With Lindholm's major offseason work, I think he's finally poised to break out, and Aho and Teravainen should be really fun to watch too.

Going into the offseason, Brind'Amour was fairly blunt publicly about Lindholm's strength not being where it needed to be last season, and that it was a big reason why he hadn't broken out. Lindholm has apparently taken that to heart. Lindholm and Teravainen, both with a real chance to break out in a big way, and Aho, who could easily be in the Calder race if he translates his game to NHL ice well. Should be fun to watch.

Well Brind'Amour is a freak.

But a great guy to learn strength training from.

Believe their coach talked about this on MvsW. He wants Linholm, Teravainen, and Aho on the same line. They would switch center and wing positions depending on where faceoffs are being taken. Low key excited to see this line this year

If it clicks and TT & Lindy finally do the body work they need to break out, that's going to be a fun line to watch.

On the other hand, I wanted to see any one of those guys setting the table for Rask and Skinner, both of whom would benefit massively from a playmaker.

Yes, he does get nicked up, as a lot of players that play his style do and misses a lot of games, but that's my point.

1) True, but since he doesn't play as many games, PPG becomes less important.
2) He's 25, Lindholm is 21, I'd expect his PPG to be better.
3) Over the past 2 seasons, the PPG difference isn't that much. .55 vs. .48.

But still, currently Kane's a bit better offensively if he's in the line-up and he adds a physical dimension the Canes could use so I'm not saying he wouldn't have value without the off-ice issues.

That's his cap hit. I said he gets paid, not his cap hit, since his cap is irrelevant to Carolina, but the actual salary is important. Kane's actual salary is $6M and $6M for the next 2 seasons.

This is a big component. UFA in 2 years in Kane's case vs. under teams control for many more years.

I'm not saying I wouldn't want him, if not for his off ice issues. I said I wouldn't trade Lindholm for him for the reasons I stated above. 2 different things.

Really depends on what Carolina wants.

Kane already is a good second line power forward that is possibly the best forechecker in the game. His physicality is hard to match for opponents, and he's really hard to play against. He's definitely shoot-first, pass maybe later. But he can flip possession by himself. He wins fights, stands up for teammates, and is a playoff-style forward.

Lindholm isn't fully developed yet. So it's a bet on who Kane already is vs. what Lindholm might become.

Personally, if anyone offers anything close to Lindholm for Kane, I'm sold. His off-ice behavior isn't worth it. But if someone thinks that a change of scenery would do him good, perfect.

I've watched him play many times and like him a lot. Does anything on Pitt interest Carolina? I can't think of anything but I'd love him in our lineup

You're not gonna like it. But Matt Murray is what we would want. Obviously I don't think Murray is available and Lindholm is most likely not enough.

Yep. That's what I'm saying as a Canes fan. When taking everything into account, I wouldn't make that trade. Could Kane get back to a 30G, 55pt player? Maybe, but in his last 3 seasons he hasn't been close and betting that he will is just as risky, IMO, as betting Lindholm won't develop further.

Kane's pros:
- Currently better offensively
- Bigger, more physical player
- More "finished" player = you know what you get.

Kane's cons:
- Often Hurt / misses a lot of games
- $6M salary
- UFA in 2 years
- 4 years older
- Potentially will be a Con. :naughty:

Yeah, this is all hypothetical because it is ignoring his off-ice issues, which we know teams won't do. I'd be very surprised if the Sabres are able to get much for him right now, but you never know. I'd be even more surprised if the Canes traded for him because of the off-ice issues.

Leaving Kane out of it, I don't see the Canes trading Lindholm right now. He's only 21 and based on reports has been working hard this off-season. If Lindholm doesn't show progression this season, then maybe they part ways with him but it would be foolish to move him now IMO.

I would also add that Kane addresses an area of positional need, which is the only reason he even came to mind for me. It wouldn't make sense for the Canes to trade Lindholm for a center or a defenseman, and we're already committed to 2 goalies at the moment, so trade targets would really be limited to wingers. But we REALLY need good wingers.
