First time playing a Soul’s game for me. The combat is the draw for sure. Starting out in a huge, open, and incredibly dangerous world where everything wants to violently murder you and learning how to fight them all is really rewarding.

There’s a lot of ways to fight and a lot of ways to explore the world. There are a lot if things I think could be tightened up but the raw danger of the world you’re and the simplicity of it all is awesome.
Seems like a good game, but the unsettling aesthetic just seems too on-edge for me. I try to relax more when I play games these days and this just evokes an uncomfortable feeling even from watching streams of it , lol.

Yeah it’s all uncomfortable. Everything is dangerous. Everything can and will kill you. You start out as a little mouse and have to learn to get better and better until you are strong enough to take down bosses you thought would be impossible.

It’s beautiful. Just buy the game and play it for 2 weeks. Give it an honest try and you’ll be rewarded dude. I hated Soul’s games before this. I thought they were hard for the sake of being hard and no fun. I was wrong! One of the best gaming experiences of my life.

Ah I totally forgot about that. However you should try having him put his sign down at the east capital ramparts site of grace. That's the room right before you enter the capital and it's left intact even after the capital burns. A lot of people dont know that though cause the grace gets deactivated when you burn it
We did that, but he can only stay so long until he runs out of flasks. It is simply stupid that I cannot summon my buddy to my game because of his game state.

Well I've always respected your takes on video games, so I may do just that. I've been aching for something unfamiliar that I can really dive into and I haven't really had that experience since Subnautica.

I think whoever you summon automatically comes in with less flasks than they normally would have, doesn’t matter where in the game you or they are.

Are you going to go back and give the other Soulsbornes another try? Or Elden Ring is just different?

Just go in knowing and accepting that you will die a lot. It's part of the process and you'll slowly start getting better and having more fun. This was my 3rd Souls game and it's still hard for me to not get frustrated, but once you get by a major boss, you'll be hooked and want to keep going.

I’m going to play Sekiro for sure. I’ve wanted to play it ever since Ghosts of Tsushima was released and since I don’t have a PlayStation this was my next best option.

Maybe Bloodboorne as well. But I usually don’t like going too far back in time on games I missed out on after playing the newest version. I’m already used to the QoL features in Elden Ring so going back to older games that don’t have those would be harder probably.

If you ever go back to bloodborne and want an easy time use the cum dungeon

(you will unfortunately have to beat bloodstarved beast AND have PS Plus to do this)

Sekiro is my favorite game. It does share some of the trademark FromSoft characteristics, but it plays completely different than Elden Ring (for the better IMO, but your mileage may vary). It's nothing like Ghost, though, other than it takes place in Japan and you mainly use a sword.

Bloodborne is totally worth it. If you like Elden Ring, highly recommended. There are a ton of differences to Elden Ring, but the only thing I really liked more in Elden Ring is the checkpoint locations. Runs back to the boss in Bloodborne can be rather long....although, I don't remember getting 1 shotted by any boss in Bloodborne, at least in the base game. So you at least can hang in the fight and learn before having to make the run back.

I know what you mean, though. I've been hesitant to play Dark Souls and Demon's Souls for that same reason.

I totally understand the need to relax while gaming, I usually play two games at a time, one being what I call "high impact" where I need to pay attention to the surroundings and it usually has twitch gaming like guns or precision jumping (I just finished Cyberpunk and I'm now into Deathloop, for this category). The second is, of course, "low impact", which is something light and fun that doesn't require me to be on edge. I'm currently playing Eiyuden Chronicles Rising to fill this niche and the category is usually JRPGs for me as the last few have been Like a Dragon and Tales of Arise.

I haven't played, or watched, any of Eldin Ring but I get the feeling that it takes the exploration aspect of something like Skyrim (my favorite part) and gives it much better combat. I loved wandering around Skyrim and finding some random cave and most of the time not knowing what's in there. Is it a simple bandit cave? Deep caverns? Link to an underground city? Who knows!

I didn't realize until now, the coded sword and cipher pata have literal writing as their blade, hence their names. I never took a look at their descriptions until now
How's there no benefit? The levels in vigor and endurance might not matter so much (especially since I was using 2 endurance tailsman already), but getting levels in strength and dex with a weapon that scales in strength and dex has to give me more attack power.

Whatever. The run I beat her, I whooped her ass and used probably only 4 or 5 heals. So whatever extra damage I was taking was worth the extra attack power.

If that was putting me at a disadvantage, then it just goes to show you how amazing I am at this game :sarcasm:
You know I wanted to check on this because I was curious exactly how much extra damage you take. Basically it depends on exactly how much absorbtion you have to start with. The more absorbtion you have the less it takes away. I stacked my absortion as high as humanly possible and equipped it to see how low I could get the penalty.

Simple answer: with most regular armor and no talisman you take 10% extra damage. With Radagons Set + Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman you take 5% extra. With Radagons set, Dragoncrest Greatshield talisman, and all the other extra buffs its like 4%. For me its not worth it but it doesn't hurt that much in the endgame as much as I thought.

Saw the credits.

I save scummed to get the endings needed for the platinum. I used a guide and started to go back and get all the weapons, incantations, summons, and tailsman needed as well. I know I'm locked out of at least 1 boss and 1 weapon, so now I'm debating if I should start NG+ or just move on. It seems daunting, but it's probably like Bloodborne and Sekiro NG+. Once you know where to go and that you can just run past most stuff, it's not as long as it seems.

Where do you (and gamers in general) get the drive to 100% games?I haven't done it Halo 3 so i could get the cool armor. I tried to do it in Arkham City and then when i realized I did everything except for find all 200 or whatever Riddler Trophies it killed it for me. Some people even found all 900 Korok Seeds in BOTW 😲

It seems way too tedious, even in a game I loved the shit out of. At least for me I get to the point where I know i've finished the story and the bulk of what i'm supposed to experience so to keep playing feels like turning fun into an obsession.

I only have 4 platinums. God of War, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Astro's Playroom :)laugh:).

FromSoft's platinums are pretty reasonable to get. There's nothing like the Riddler Trophies or whatever a Korok Seed is. For Elden Ring it is basically:

1. See the 3 main endings (which I wanted to see anyway and with save scumming isn't really that much extra work).

2. Beat all the main bosses (which I want to do anyway)

3. Fully upgrade a weapon and a summon (which I did without knowing for sure if it was an achievement)

4. Get all the 'legendary' weapons, ashes of war, incantations, and tailsman. Sounds like a lot, but there's only like 5-10 of each type that are considered 'legendary'. I got probably like 70% of them just by playing through the game. So again, it's really not that much extra work, especially since by the end, you are so OP. When you go back to the places to get what you missed, you just smash right through everything.

When you start NG+, you start at the same level and with most of the stuff you found already (minus certain keys to advance the story). So you can really just make a beeline to what is needed to advance. Sekiro for example, you need to play through 2-3 times because there is a limited amount of a certain upgrade material in each NG+. I really debated it, but I loved Sekiro. If it took me 50hr to beat it in my first playthrough, it took maybe 4hr to beat it again. I still needed to farm up some currency to buy some stuff even after the second playthrough, so I started NG++. Farming got really boring, though, so I just played through it again. The bosses were still fun and gave more currency. I actually ended up needing to go into NG+++ which is actually the number of endings there are. So even though I got the platinum, I only needed to face a few more bosses to finish off NG+++.

I guess I don't know for sure Elden Ring will be as easy, fast, or fun on a second play through as Sekiro, but with how much optional stuff there is in Elden Ring, I imagine it is similar. I don't think I would need to or want to finish off NG+, though.

Yes fromsoft games have very easy platinums. In fact there's way more than 3 endings in Elden ring but they count all the ones where you sit on the throne as one trophy so you only need 1.

How the hell does one get past the royal capital?
Kill morgott the king, then the elevator will open up somehow, I don't remember.

I think the elevator is one of the few things actually marked on your map in this game so it's relatively easy to find.

Any tips on how to beat Astel? I’m playing as a level 69 battle mage type build but my spells don’t do much and anytime I try to melee him, he snags me or initiates an Aoe

I beat Morgott in my second try but I think using my summons helps a crazy amount. I use those 5 little monster men and have them upgraded to +7. Some bosses they’re lights out and some, like the Magma Wyrm, where they’re completely useless

Dont do magic damage, and increase your magic defense. I ran into this issue with the final boss. I did only holy damage and the final boss takes no holy damage. Luckily theres a lot of faith weapons that do fire damage I could upgrade. Not familiar with the intelligence weapons but there should be some out there with a different damage type.
