Eichel: 2 goals in 20 games. Why is he immune to criticism?

Barlov level player; ok sure. Regardless McDavid>>Eichel/Barkov. Kinda like saying you'd rather have Slavin than Makar (but not as stark a contrast obviously).
Ehh youre not totally off, but my point with Eichel/Barkov is that you accept the lack of offense in lieu of their amazing defense. Slavin provides near nothing for offense and McDavid provides near nothing defense. A bit extreme for examples.

Its not quite the same apples to oranges since offensively Barkov/Eichel are roughly 100 pt players if healthy so 75% of McDavid's offensive production. Slavin is 30% of Makar's at best and Makar is very good defensively in his own zone so Makar>>>>>>>>Slavin offensively and Slavin>Makar defensively, where McDavid is not in the same Stratosphere 200 ft wise as Barkob/Eichel are.

I understand why you would want McDavid over Eichel/Barkov for pure offense and marketing, but I think its easy to make the argument that you can build a more balanced team around the latter and that is even ignoring cap hit talk.

I understand.

Do i think mcdavid wishes he was drafted to a different team? Yea i do. But i don’t think he’s jealous of eichels career any more than any other cup winner
Maybe not jealously, but definitely some respectful envy. A Stanley Cup and an Olympic Gold >>>> any more individual hardware and I bet McDavid would agree.

Both 30 soon and were going to start talking about time remaining to win as they all start to regress/age.

The tougher thing is making someone else better and making their lives easier, not just ripping pucks. The notion that Eichel's contribution here is less than that of the goal scorer is poppycock, excuse my French...

Eichel is a great player no doubt, but for a guy everyone claims is a top 5 center (and would possibly even go before McDavid in a redraft), he hasn’t nearly lived up to that thinking. Yet when he makes one defensive play the media will claim he’s unstoppable. I just haven’t seen anything this playoffs to support that he is anywhere near the level of even a player like Marner.

He has 2 goals in 20 playoff games and 2 assists through 4 Stanley cup final games. So why does no one criticize this guy? And before anyone claims “well both ends of the ice!!” Well there’s players that do that much better than him as well.

Eichel is a 1C center, but to claim he’s near the level of McDavid, MacKinnon, or even Barkov, which the media has been peddling hard, is just way off base.

Tweet for reference:

No sane person says Eichel could go before McDavid in a redraft.

32/32 GMs would rather have McDavid over Eichel.

But for the real discussion he doesn't have as many critics because he won a cup. Once you win a cup it's hard to be critical. Even the McKinnon talk is pretty quite

Dude averages at least 20 to 30 goals in every year he’s played without being known to be a goal scorer. He’s PPG this playoffs and lead it in scoring to win his first cup. Hes elite

No sane person says Eichel could go before McDavid in a redraft.
I liked Eichel as potentially being the better playoff guy than McDavid but that's simply not the case in that as good as Eichel has been in the playoffs no one has been better in them than McDavid since they both entered the NHL playoffs

Some players are just out of mind.

Joe Thornton often bombed in playoffs compared to his reg season stats. Nobody brings that up. Tavares is similar and disappears in crucial games. No heat either.
