I don't mind Louie, but jack has to go. He rambles and rambles about useless stats and provides color for Louie and doesn't call a play, then he misses goals and says "quick shot score". I'd like to see Cam Moon and Louie...at least Cam calls the play and lets his color guy

So, there's saying things positive for the other team and there's lacking objectivity or a sense of reality of what's happening on the ice. Louis is often looking for things that "positives" against the Oilers, despite this Oilers team being very good and often better than their opponents.

If you only listen to Louis, you would assume the Oilers scrape by every game.

The worst part about them is the way they pick a player or players from the other team to obsess about for a game and they don't drop it.

The schtick is basically taking the role of "educator," telling the fans just how good the star player on the other team they don't know about really is. The problem with that is most people already know this, and they don't shift the narrative depending on what is happening. So either way it's annoying. Annoying if the player is playing well because they won't shut up about him, annoying if they are fawning over a player that is actually playing like shit that night. Always speaking in superlative too - "Byfield has REALLY taken a step this year!" as he plays like garbage and scored the same number of points as last year.

Incredibly annoying.

Just wanted to throw in this tabulation. With the 4W's in playoffs Pickard has now caught Skinner in Wins in reg season and playoffs combined. These are the Win/loss records including OTL as losses.

While playing on the same club, same season, same roster.

Skinner also did DNF 5 games and being pulled in 4. One of the Pickard registered losses is a shit game where Pickard came in, played great, still got tagged with a loss.

Pickard has been pulled only once all season and playoffs.

Pickard might be one of the hottest Winning records of goalies in NHL. I'm lazy and didn't check that one.

I mentioned when Jack/Louie were announced as our commentators for round 1 that everyone I interact with in and around Edmonton in real life loves them.

I really only run into the hate on HF as well. To be fair though I can't remember the last Oilers commentator that this place didn't hate.

I really like Jack, and Louie is okay most of the time, but I really appreciated both of them more after listening to amateur hour for 4+ hours yesterday doing the Jets game. Basically nails on a chalkboard like.

I think it’s all about perspective. For quite a while I thought Louie was looking for a new job in Boston or Vancouver but now I think he’s working on ingratiating himself with anti-oilers diaspora because they are legion.

Regardless whenever he says something good about the oilers it’s a special treat rather than the standard fare.

Sure, that's fine. Again, 1 goal games because there's terrible goaltending is different than 1 goal games because you had to battle very hard and didn't utterly out play the opponent and just didn't get saves.

I don't mind Louie but he has his standard fall backs that all analysts have that people like to poke fun at. For example every time a goal is scored there is a high probability that he says "That one might be coming back" or "They might be having a look at that one" so its like he enjoys seeing Oiler goals called back on challenges which he doesnt but its funny because you come to expect it.

I have been playing a drinking game every time Seravalli says the work "Look" or every time Gregor is wrong when I listen to podcasts with them on, and I am shitfaced by noon when I do that.

I have to watch the US feed, and especially during the last game when there was some contact'ish goals, I thought about what Louie typically says. No one on the TNT/TBS broadcast (or whatever I was watching lol) ever mentioned 'they might take a look at this'. It was rather refreshing

I've long argued that he got his results largely by quality of competition, but as the sample size has increased a bit, I'm less inclined to push that excuse.

Vs. Non-Playoff teams he's 17-4 with a 0.900 save percentage and 2.64 GAA
Vs. Playoff teams he's 9-6-1 with a 0.898 save percentage and 2.87 GAA

Whereas Skinner is

Vs Non-Playoff teams he's 14-6-1 with a 0.909 save percentage and 2.51 GAA
VS. Playoff teams teams he's 12-14-3 with an 0.879 and a 3.24 GAA

So Pickards numbers other than wins/losses are pretty consistent vs. either, whereas Skinner's superior vs. lesser teams and totall craters against playoff teams.

Limiting it to top 10 teams which is basically all that's left in the playoffs:

Pickard is 6-4-1 with a 0.894 save percentage and 3.05 GAA
Skinner is 7-10-3 with a 0.875 save percentage and 3.35 GAA

All stats in include playoffs so that may help Pickard's numbers a bit, but so what. We're trying to say who's likely to play better in these playoffs and we could also argue most of Pickard's starts vs. the good teams have come later in the season with less of the key players in front of him.

At this point, Pickard has clearly earned the net.

The guy just gets on my nerves. He reminds me of a quote I heard years ago: "The guy can pack the most words into the smallest thought of anyone I've ever met." He just seems to cycle through the same five catchphrases over and over again, and I honestly can't recall anything he's ever said that taught me something or added in any meaningful way to my viewing experience. People here hated Drew Remenda too, but at least he would insert the occasional insight now and then. With Louie it's just "can opener", "nose for the net", "shooting mentality", "they're taking a good look at this", etc. etc. All game, every game. Strikes me as the kind of guy who's never happier than when he's the one doing the talking.

I don't know, maybe it's just the nature of commentary these days. I long for some far off day when I can just watch the game and not have to listen to any announcers whatsoever. It'll never happen, but a guy can dream.

Even if its misdirection and it probably is, I wish the Oilers would stop doing this stuff. We generally don’t get going until game 3. Lets focus on getting ready and starting on time for game 1 rather than playing mind games. The mind games probably work better on ourselves than the opposition.

This is the first time in the McDrai era that the team is going up against a team that has previously beaten them in the playoffs. I'm hoping beyond hope that provides that extra spark that leads to a good start in this series.
