Proposal: - Islanders trade Barzal & Dobson for 4th & 5th overall | Page 2 | HFBoards - NHL Message Board and Forum for National Hockey League

Proposal: Islanders trade Barzal & Dobson for 4th & 5th overall

My guess is if the Islanders trade Barzal and Dobson, Horvat will ask to be traded as well. lol
As for the return, I’m expecting a package that’s better then a teams 8th best prospect and a protected first with a cap dump.

If we traded Barzal, Dobson and Horvat we probably would need a cap dump coming back.

Barzal and Dobson to Vancouver for Pettersson and Willander. Then trade Pettersson for 4thOA and the following week sign Marner...

1) This has literally nothing to do with your team

2) This is a trade forum. Why come here if it's hard for you to endure people doing exactly what this forums is designed for - proposing hypothetical/fantasy trades. Stay off the board for the next month then.

There's not even anything outlandish here. Teams that want to compete trade draft picks for really good players to team that wants to rebuild. So provocative!
Please give examples of teams knowing thr draft pick is top 5 and trading it outright for a player?

There's this concept called 'selling tickets' . . . easy to postulate this when it isn't money coming out of your pocket
Uhh yeah that's kinda the problem if the Isles keep on keepin' on.

I say this with zero malice or animosity towards the franchise, I think they are objectively, and by far, the most irrelevant franchise in the league right now.

They are boring to watch, they aren't good enough to even make playoffs much less compete for a cup yet conversely don't have an exciting future being built like other teams close to them in the standing i.e Anaheim, Columbus, Utah etc.

The Isles have two foundational players, Barzal and Dobson and that ain't exactly Mackinnon/Makar. They have the 1st overall but that asset is probably 3-5 years from being a real difference maker and Barzal will be 30-32 by then. In the meantime, the Isles have zero assets or A+ prospect capital to help bring in impact players to build around Barzal, Dobson, Schaefer/Misa.

This is the definition of a treadmill team with no clearly define direction that fans have no reason to care about.

A hard reset and having 3 of the first 5 picks this June (not to mention bottoming out next season with a strong draft) rips the bandaid off and gets the much needed rebuild underway in a very big way.

I have zero rooting interest in any of the 3 teams I mentioned in OP. I genuinely thought it gave all 3 teams something they really needed. If the Isles fans think they have a bright future with the status quo that's their prerogative.

They are fictional trades on an internet forum. 99.99% of all trades ever proposed here had no chance of happening but it's just for fun. Go start an Erik Gudbranson for 5th round pick thread if that floats your boat.

And while top 5 picks basically never get traded, every single year there's rumour and speculation about it happening. It's not like GMs don't think about it or explore the possibilities. It gets discussed constantly.

Utah is a perfect example of a team that should be considering trading it. Enough of the prospect hoarding and building for the future, it's time for that franchise to make the playoffs. A high end NHL'er should be more coveted by them than an 18 year old prospect 3-5 years away from making an impact. Just IMO.

yeah, not happening..... Barzal constantly injured and overpaid, Dobson coming off a bad season offensively and will probably seek a $9M+ AAV deal

youre not getting 4th and 5th overall thats for damn for sure

Sounds to me that

A) You like to hear yourself talk
B) You hit the Brown Cafes too much
C) You don't internalize how tired the rest of the hockey world is of Toronto fans lecturing others

A) This is a message forum, posting = liking to hear yourself talk? We also signed up to these board at basically the same time and you've posted 9500 times vs my 1200 so maybe you need to tone it down then.

B) Probably

C) Leafs fans are allowed to have opinions on other teams. This has nothing to do with the Leafs, stop letting them live rent free in your head. I'm more critical of the Leafs than any other franchise.

We don't necessarily feel that way and have different opinions on how to change that. I don't think we need all these threads from non-fans advocating a total gutting on our behalf though.

There's so the Isles will have 1OA, 4OA, 5OA, and 6OA.
If the Isles stupidly traded out 3 of their next pieces, it’s almost certain that karma would come back to bite them. Hagens would go 3 to Chicago and the Isles would be without that master plan of selecting him.

I prefer to deal in reality and realistic ones.

Why do teams do top 5/ top 10 protections on traded 1sts?
