He’s an American kid who has played hockey in America his entire life. His chance of resigning here is very low.
Bascially every take you have on this player (and this deal) is very negative and I have to be honest some of it is way over the top.
So...nothing positive at all for you?

Gonna wait to judge this move, on Friday, when the totality of all trade deadline and roster machinations are complete.

Looking at these moves in individual views is incomplete.

Let’s see what else they have up their sleeves. A lot more holes to plug yet.
I'll be busy on Thursday and Friday and have to get my reactions in today. heh

Totality? This is probably the eclipse right here. All the planets would have to align for the Oilers to make a move on getting a starting goalie.

This is the Oilers big splash imo. They tend to get a name player and a no name player later. Kind of how they've done things.

That’s not over the top? It’s very rare for American born players at his age who have spent their entire hockey life in America to sign for a Canadian team unless they have little to no options. He is from Colorado, I’d say him going there in the off season is very likely.

And I liked the player the last couple years, don’t like his current play and don’t like that he is injured with no return date.

I don’t like the idea of grabbing an injured struggling player and hoping that in a few regular season games he can flip his game around and be a good playoff add. That’s a very crazy risk. If he wasn’t injured right now I’d like it a ton more cause he would have time to work with the staff and get his game back on track. He won’t have that.

When he is healthy and playing well he is a good player in the paint, scores a lot crashing the net. Is big, tough, physical and will make you pay with solid hits.

I don’t hate the player, I hate his current play and the situation.

You have been using wording like "fallen off a cliff" to describe an off year for a 27 year old player who was very good the previous couple of years.
That is definitely over the top.

LaChance was slumping at Boston U after a strong start...also, Boston U. Probably wants to stays in the area. But still, the Broberg 2nd and LaChance had value for an upgrade in net, or even a Top 4 D. I'll wait and see what other moves are made before passing final judgment...

It's important to evaluate this trade in conjunction with others rather than a standalone. So I'm going to wait and see what else happens.

I'm probably going to click "Like" on your posts whenever I see that "Fire Dustin Schwartz" caption, but also, good point.

I don't know. Listening to local radio for the past 3 months and they've been talking about a guy like Frederic and actually Frederic himself as a need for this team.

They also didn't bring up goaltending until very recently when it has been a problem for much of the season, so I wouldn't entirely trust their takes on the team.

Perhaps. But I’m still waiting until after the bell rings on Friday. Sometimes early trade deadline deals can be stepping stones to next move(s). I know I’m giving these clowns a lot of benefit of the doubt, but I need something to hang on to other than total false hope. :)

I would say his current play has fallen off a cliff wouldn’t you? Going from a reasonable goal differential to a bad one and worst for all the forwards on his team? His points output being almost halved? I’m not saying he is done as a player and can’t go back to how he was but that much of a drop is definitely a cliff.

That (not moving their feet) is a common complaint for most big players.

Sounds like a Patrick Maroon type player.
If so he might see some time in the top 6...that should get his feet moving. :D
Patrick Maroon also had 26 goals and 79 points in 204 games (.127 GPG and .387 PPG) when he was acquired at 27 years old (upcoming UFA). Frederic has 55 goals and 109 points in 337 games (.163 GPG and .323 PPG).
So slight advantage overall to Maroon on total points with similar advantage to Frederic on goal totals.

Maroon cost the team Gernat and a 4th.

How long will it take to wash the Bruins weasel stink from him? Marchant is quite a filthy skunk. Its gonna take some time and how much tomato juice is needed?

I f***ing just detest the Bruins. Hate that club, so that will factor into my comments for a bit. Would be almost like obtaining a Flames player.

That said its been easy in my life to hate the bruins and love the Habs and Oilers historically. This means that you get to see the Bruins lose in teh playoffs every freaking time. haha. This season they don't even make it.

Marchand out of the lineup too. They should scrub the dressing room while he's out.

Anyway, back to Frederik.

ONE reason why he's played there like a gladiator is the Bruins mops eat that stuff up like its 1960. The kind of fans that went crazy for first 10secs of Canada-US game and that typically don't give a toss. Not sure how many would even be there if the place wasn't like a Bar as well..

Fair points.
I am curious to see how Frederic looks in the top 6 on this team especially with his net front precense and his ability to clean up the garbage in front of the net.

Hopefully our GM isn't making trades and roster decisions while living in Cancun this time.

Unless the org are trying to really play a poker hand (and they don't do that) I'm unfortunately taking the "we're not going to get a goalie and we're sticking with what we have" literally. Its the one time I hope the org is lying to us...

At this point, what's done is done, so I'm looking forward to seeing if they can unlock him similarly to how they unlocked Maroon years ago. Hopefully two months from now we aren't talking about the acquisition costs anymore. Hopefully this hasn't impacted their ability to look at a few other needs that still are out there.

Little confused. Need a goalie and another D but we blow our draft pick wad on an underachieving bottom 6 forward?
Reminds me a bit of the coke bottle days, if you are big we want you.

Guess this means that either Kane is on the way out or we are digging into our better prospect pool to upgrade the G and D.

I was in the "need a goalie camp" last season at the deadline, and everyone agreed we needed a D. So, instead of getting that "must have" D we got a "nice to have" in Henrique, and a "never f***ing needed in the first place" in Carrick. I hope this isn't all we see, and if we get McCarron, I'll actually be pissed because you know he will be this year's Sam Carrick, aka sitting in the press box come playoff time...all four games of it if we don't get a goalie.

His previous year had him at 18 goals for 82 games.
Frederics current output has him at approx 12 goals after 82 games.

We also dont know what if anything has changed with his linemates this season and that can play a major role in offensive output.

So no I dont think that his play has "fallen off a cliff".

Its a down year.

Good question. The simple answer is likely Savoie since they don't seem committed to playing him much and he doesn't need waivers, but Savoie still has a game or two to change their minds.

Well what happens to Skinner then? And then with Kane coming back? Trade Kane?

They can only play 2 of Skinner, Frederic, Savoie, Kapanen, Kane. And they can't move Skinner.

Max Jones may be this year's Sam Carrick minus the faceoff ability.
