Edmonton to WC Semis This Year

I'm glad most everyone here realizes this is ridiculous. Maybe I'm just too calloused but "this is the oilers year" is exactly what I was hearing like five years ago and every year since then. Maybe this is the one.

Talbot Is a Back-Up, just like Scrivens, who will have a Chance to be a starter. I hope this trade works out Better...

Talbot is a backup because hank is the first goalie. Ive watched every game Talbot has played for NYR and he is extremely solid. So calm, very good at playing the puck, makes everything look very easy and he rarely if ever makes any big mistakes. I was actually more confident with him in net than hank because i knew he was gonna be above average every game. Hank is our number 1 and thats not a discussion but i think Talbot is elite and can be just as good as hank the next 5 years.
I think he will be good but not great this season because edm still has a poor defensive team. A goalie can only do so much with a poor defense infront of him. If edm manages to get a solid d-core the next 2-3 years i think he will be a top 5 goalie in the league. He was our best player almost every game he played for us and i really hope he keeps improving and becomes a top 5 goalie in the league. Great guy that knew he was nr2 but never complained about anything. Really think he will be good for edm and great if they manage to get better defensivly.

U never know he might be really bad but from what ive seen from him in the nhl i just cant see why he shouldnt keep improving and become even better!

Sickest forward corps in the game. Will have money for a new veteran D-man to add. Will probably get Sekera or Franson.

The Oilers will be rolling out this dirty top-6:

Hall - RNH - Eberle
Pouliot - McDavid - Yakupov

Now they've added an elite goalie in Cam Talbot. Look out boys, they got a new dyNASTY on tap.

Hasn't this been said for years now? They'll be a bubble team next year and miss the playoffs.

They'll be out of the bottom 5. I see them being around 20-22nd. Connor and Talbot could be huge, but that defense is still terrible.

Lol cam talbot an elite goalie?

The Oilers will only become relevant once the Defense is improved.

Re-reading my post I realized I didn't convey that in the right tone. I was kind of going for exasperated sarcasm. There is no way the Oilers make the playoffs unless all of the wheels fall off every perennial contender. Although with new management they might actually have a chance in a few years.

To me they have too many small skilled forwards. And the few with size aren't really bringing muscle power for their offense.

They should trade one of Pouliot/Yakupov either alone or in a package to fetch two complementary wingers with scoring touch and mean side.

One younger and one older.

Would actually be interesting if they could get Kessel(albeit not very big, but solid, fits with Toronto rebuild as well) and/or E.Staal. Then we're talking.

That is the softest top 6 i've seen...

Lot's of skill, no doubt about it ... but with the way the west is ran right now, they need to add some big bodies.

Talbot did good in front a very good Defence, he now doesn't have that.

I wouldn't be so confident yet...

If McDavid can enter the NHL as a PPG player they might have a chance at being a bubble team. Even then I doubt it... your defense is as bad as ours and your goaltender probably won't be saving you a season like Dubnyk or Hingle McCringleberry (whoever Ottawa had... Hammond that's it).

They have like $16 million in cap space. They are going to add some pieces to the D between now and training camp.

Defense is still horrid, forward core is still young and inexperienced, bottom 6 is trash, Cam Talbot is NOT an elite goalie, or even close to it.

They'll be scraping their way out of the bottom of the west again.

IMO if their coach learns them finally how to play positionaly in their own zone and learns their forwards to back-check this is enough to have solid average defense. What they lack and what cant be coached is offensive support from defensemen.

Subtitute Liverpool for Edmonton.

Off season bit should be longer obv.

Defense is a concern. Honestly was just happy for Edmonton. Big NYR fan and love Talbot. Would rather build around Cam but that's for another discussion. I think the Oilers have a top 6 of all 30+ G/yr ability.

Didn't mean for this to be so controversial. Was just making a "bold prediction" for next season Feel free to bookmark and bump if/when I'm wrong. Won't be the first time.

Yes, they'll need some competent D. They could still deal Drai and picks to get a top pairing D, then use some of the 16 Mil in cap space to get Sekera/Franson. I think they'll be better than Winnipeg who nobody was bullish on last year.

Not saying Talbot is a product of the Rangers, but there's a huge talent drop off from the Rags D core to the Oilers. Interested to see how he handles it
