Edmonton to WC Semis This Year

Oilers fans are probably cautious enough now to never say they'll make the playoffs, until they actually make the playoffs.
 
A sexy looking top 6 isn't going to get you into the playoffs, let alone the second round.

Not a surprise that people who overrate lottery teams are usually neutral fans who have no idea how bad these teams really are.

Edmonton will definitely be a team to watch but their new mgmt just assumed control and haven't had time to evaluate their roster and reshape it yet. You can't fix a mess in 3 months.

This thread is very unfair as Edmonton's clock just started as far as I am concerned. I expect them to continue to look for quality D and they should look to make a shrewd trade as well if it presents itself before the season starts.
 
Lets not forget the Oilers during the "HOPE" campaign and said the other NHL teams better watch out...lol.

We are know how that turned out...Oilers fans need to wake up and stop listening to their local radio station; who are pumping tires of every move and trade they have made dating back 10 years ago...
 
Thanks for this OP. It's been awhile since the rest of the NHL has had a chance to get their jollies by stomping my team's battered carcass into the ground again.

This team will be a laughing stock until proven otherwise. The hope is that with the changes this year that the turnaround will be rapid but until there's results the team should still be considered a bottom feeder. My hope as a fan is that the Oilers missing the playoffs won't be a bygone conclusion by the New Year.
 
The Oilers might compete for the 8th spot, but the OP is vastly overestimating the Oilers for next season. The defense is still a massive work in progress

Andrew Ference is in no way our best dman. At most, he's like 5th best (and likely not even that)


That said, I just hope we aren't out of playoff contention in November again

we might be able to start thinking playoffs if only our rivals wouldn't keep getting better as well. It's freakin crazy out here. Considering that McDavid will be too young to carry our team I would even say we lost ground on some of our main competition even considering our upgrades in coaching and goaltending (and D imo, but that's arguable). We're likely also a season away from seeing Reinhart, Draisaitl and Nurse start becoming full impact players.

Unless we make a free agent splash, it's looking like we're gearing up for 2016-17 in the new arena. However we could still make it right away. Calgary exceeded expectations last year. There's always a few teams who fall off a cliff and open up some playoff spots.
 
Thread not started by an Oilers fan, most Oilers fans in here saying "whoa, hold your horses a little bit there, we'll be lucky to be fighting for a playoff spot", and then people that like to trash the Oilers saying how delusional their fans are for thinking they will improve.
 
Gotta love how these threads aren't even started by Oiler fans. We don't expect a playoff spot next year. Anything better than that will be a pleasant surprise.

We Oil fans are laughing at this. Seriously. They have skill up front, but then so does most teams. It's what they do on the backend to the net and right now their defense is still very sub par. Talbot is a nice addition, but it doesn't mean much if the team can't defend.

Also the West is ridiculously stacked top to bottom. This isn't the weak East where maybe if you said that and they were in the East it wouldn't be so crazy.

Bang on post. No oiler fan is proclaiming a "dynasty" or saying we're going to make playoffs. But hey, keep insulting the team and fanbase if it makes you feel better! Childish.
