Are the Leafs still playing 7 D and 11 F?

I saw on CapFriendly that Spezza was assigned to the taxi squad yesterday. What's that about?

I read James Mirtle in the Athletic to the effect that the Leafs would max out the LTIR cap space by calling up contracts that fit like a puzzle -- players like Petan and whatnot -- before sending Robertson to LTIR, sending the puzzle pieces back down, and calling up Lehtonen and Barabanov on a more or less permanent basis. I haven't seen any of that happen, and I don't think it does happen with Lehtonen on the roster.

I don't understand why the Leafs have not yet taken steps to restore a 21-player roster.

This is a really rough and dirty explanation but basically with Spezza on the Taxi squad and Robertson on the roster and NOT on LTIR, it gives the Leafs a little more than a million in cap space. On offdays, he's sent to the taxi squad in order to give us as much cap space as possible because the cap space grows as the season goes along, leaving the Leafs with more flexibility as the season goes on for deadline pickups and to expand the roster.

Lehtonen, Barabanov will keep going up and down throughout the season because they're waiver exempt and no one will claim Spezza.

Oilers are due. McDavid and Drai had a rough few games and love to play the Leafs. All I ask is the effort is there win or lose. Play with the same pace as the past few games.

I really don't think they are. McDavid and Draisaitl will turn things around but I think the rest of their lineup is pretty much playing to their capabilities. Those capabilities are just those of a fringe playoff team unfortunately.

Once you're waived to the taxi squad I thought you didn't have to clear waivers again?

Youre not wrong at all. Around this time last year in this thread all you read was "Oilers suck" "Oilers are trash" "Easy win" 3 hours later those same idiots were whining and sniveling about how bad we played and probably blamed everything on Andersen

Oilers can turn it around just like that. Nurse is a big man who can muscle some of our guys off the puck easily.

Lineups (with Game Score Value Added in wins from theathletic.com):

I have no idea how valid those game score values are but if they're even somewhat valid, then Tyson Barrie is their best Dman by a wide margin.

Geez Louise, Holey Moley! Now I'll really feel down if we don't take this one. GLG!!

careful these games are the worst, I surely hope the leafs come out to win because no matter what, there are no 2 points to be mailed in by any team
Sure, I agree with that. You can't just show up or coast to win in this league. Edmonton could pull an upset.

I think someone said that this "immunity" lasts for only 30 days at a time. Not sure though so don't quote me on that.

Exemptions

  1. A player does not need to pass through waivers if the player has not been on the NHL active roster for a cumulative 30 days since last clearing waivers, and has not played in 10 or more NHL games. CBA Reference 13.2(b)

Oilers suck dude most people have them missing the playoffs. Matthews is due for more than they are.

Why is everyone so confident? This team still hasn't proven they have changed at all. They've played 2 meh games and 2 good games. The Leafs are the Leafs. They will come out half assed once again. This has all the markings of such a game.

Panel was complaining Leafs didn't run at Pionk. We already lost a PP for Holl roughing Connor in meaningless retaliation. Good players were on the ice, you can't risk a suspension for starting something after the games over. Marner handled himself just fine.

Agreed he handled it fine and after the game he said the right thing. Winnipeg looks stupid on that one.

In that situation end of the game... not the time to start a brawl. You just remember his number for next game and bring Simmonds out.

They play 9 or 10 times. A lot of time to get back at guys. Most important is the win.
