I think the high end for a Montreal-Edmonton trade would be something like Chiarot (50% retained) and a depth skater (maybe Byron once he's back) for a 1st-level asset and a decent secondary asset.

Holloway + 2nd rounder in 2024 perhaps ?

No chance you see Holloway or Broberg moved for Chiarot. At least I sure as shit hope not. Not only do I not think he holds that kind of value, Edmonton is at a point where it should be highly valuing young players who are going to be potential impact players on ELC's.

To Edm:

Toffoli 50% retained
Hoffman 50% retained
Allen 50% retained
Chiarot

To Mtl:

Holloway
Bourgault
Lavoie
Or remove 2 and add Broberg
2022 1st
Kassian (cap)
Ceci (cap)

So i know oilers fans not gonna like this especially Bouchard/Broberg but consider this:

In toffoli and Hoffman retained you are getting bonafide top 6 25-35 goal scorers (way more playing with Mcdavid/Draisaitl) for 3 each playoffs for a COMBINED 4.625m AAV!!!

Chiarot proved his playoff value this summer and could probably be re-signed, word is he will be moving for a first.

Allen a very capable 1B/ backup for this playoffs and next year at under 1.5 mil.

If all of Toffoli Hoffman Chariot Allen have around a 1st or second round pick value as deadline rentals then this package should be worth that x 9 (one for each playoffs you are getting per player)

The Kassian and Ceci part is mainly to make the cap work for Edmonton but it could be Smith or Keith or whoever you want really.

I don't think you can retain 50% on 3 players lol + giving up our top 3 forward prospects AND a 1st round pick for 4 players in their 30's? Holland likes his vets but he's not going to give up 3 of the prospects he drafted the last 3 years.

For long-term success, you're right for sure. But GMs sometimes think they see a window for this season and make moves which seem foolish in retrospect, especially when they don't work out.

But if your GM thinks adding a Chiarot on D means a 50-50 shot at a championship.... anything is possible.

Yeah it's always possible something crazy happens.

I really hope we'd aim higher if Holloway was being traded. Organization has big hopes for him and moving him for a rental seems shortsighted to me.

This trade would destroy the Habs for the foreseeable future in the HOPE that one or two prospect turn into NHL players.

Guaranteed destruction versus lots and lots of hope.....

Any of them guaranteed to be top 6? They may...or may not be anything more then NHL fodder.

The problem with this trade is that it's too radical. It decimates the Habs for years to come and takes away any possibility of the Oil having cheap young players filling rolls.

But hey...looks great on NHL2000 GM boards....

i'm not sure why we didn't throw savard in the trade to . that way we can tell all the free agents we signed to f... off . it's difficult enough to get any players to sign in montreal, no need to make that any worse .

There are no guarantees with prospects, but all 3 have the potential to be.

1) Ceci is not being moved . If a D was included it would be Barrie . Ceci has been very good for the Oilers
2) Holloway and Bourgault are not available unless it for a long term solution
3) Don't want Hoffman
4) Don't want Chia rot unless it for a late round pick and Turris

I really don't want anything Montreal got but will do 2022 1st to Montreal for their 2022 1st seeing as our D and goalies are so bad . :naughty:

This is probably the worst proposal I have ever seen. Just completely unrealistic and awful.

1) Edmonton isn't trading every decent forward prospect in the system in one deal.

2) Edmonton has no need for Allen.

3) Edmonton has no need for Hoffman.

4) I have time for Toffoli. I expect Habs fans want more for him than I would pay.

5) You have Ceci listed for cap reasons but I wouldn't trade him for Chairot 1 for 1. He's been great all year.

6) Montreal doesn't have a single piece that I would trade Broberg, Bouchard or even Holloway for. Not one.

Literally the only bones in here that might have some legs is something around Kassian+ for Toffoli. That's it. The rest is awful, and I expect most Habs fans would think the concept of Kassian+ for Toffoli isn't very appealing either.

Holy hell this is bad for Edmonton. Look, you can't entirely rebuild your franchise in one trade. No team is going to give you all that and.. jebus for what?

That + would need to be pretty impressive given Kassian's history in Montreal. As in, Holloway or a 1st rounder, because to us Kassian has negative value.

Like I said, it probably doesn't appeal to Habs fans.

As per Holloway, think about what it would take for you guys to move Caufield. That's the bare minimum it would take for us to move Holloway.

That would actually be counterproductive. A rebuilding team needs its young guys to rebuild, a contender needs to improve and tweak for the present, even at a high cost.

I'm not saying Montreal has what it takes to get Holloway, just that Edmonton should be more open to trading him than rebuilding teams would be.

Do you think Dallas ever regretted sending Iginla for Niewendyk ? Of course not, it got them a cup, even though Iginla had a HOF career.

Oh I love how you think a rental Chiarot warrants Holloway and didn’t stop there, want us to add a pick for the pleasure of handcuffing our cap even more for Byron. Awful. Wouldn’t give the 2nd alone for Chiarot if we had to also take Byron.

Chiarot was at 50%, and Byron was a thought for overall depth, no need to take him. I'm sure this year or next someone will want him, he's the kind of player who can add a lot of flexibility to a roster since he can play all 3 forward positions. Forget him then.
And right now Chiarot is playing 25+ minutes a game including #1 PP, so it's not like he's fishbait.

I’d value Chiarot at a 2nd + 4th. If we’re desperate at the deadline with 50% retention maybe we give the 1st. A late 1st value is still very far off from how we value Holloway. In a vacuum we value him like you guys value Caufield.

Byron at his cap hit holds negative value in a trade. Least to the Oilers he does.

Fair enough.
I could imagine a trade where Chiarot goes for a 2nd and a 4th, with a condition that the 2nd becomes a 1st if the Oilers do really well (say 3d round of the playoffs).

BTW: I only mentioned Byron since the Habs are low on rental possibility forwards. Paquette would've been another option: a veteran forward with a recent Cup ring.

I have time for Chiarot if we can’t swing for the fences on a higher end guy. Wouldn’t be interested in any of the depth players I see on the Habs roster. We could use a 3C but many of us feel McLeod could be that guy. Jury is still out on that. We have a ton of 4th liner 13th forward types.

I don't expect him to have any value, but Paquette is a serviceable player who could pinch-hit if playoff injuries hit, most Habs fans don't particularly like him due to zero offense, but playoff teams need depth so he should go to a good home.

A contender needs to have cost controlled players who produce. If Edmonton trades its future stars for temporary help, they are crippling their status as a contender moving forward. The biggest issue Edmonton has had in previous years is forward depth. The solution to that problem isn't trading prospect forwards.

Do you think Dallas would have regretted trading Iginla if they never won a cup? Because trading Holloway for a forward isn't a guarantee of a cup.

I have time for Chairot as well. Just not for a first and not for Ceci. A lot of people should be eating crow about how they talked about Ceci when he was signed.
