Nurse is developing into an absolute beast. His offseason work with Oates is obvious, he's so much better with the puck. His controlled zone exit % is very good, he's crushing it on the 1st pairing PK unit that ranks 4th in the league.
Nuge for Barrie 1 for 1 is roughly fair value. Treating Nurse as a throw in is beyond brutal and ignorant of how vastly improved Nurse has been this season.

Nurse has been very good so far this season. He's playing reasonable minutes and he looks to be developing. You can ignore this or write it off as being too small of a sample size to be important, but I doubt you'd be so quick to write off what he's doing if he had been struggling up to this point and we were talking about him being sent down to the AHL or something like that.
RNH for Barrie is probably fair, it has been mentioned a lot.
I am not sure if it would be very enticing for Colorado, however, with Mack, Duchene, Grigorenko, and Soderberg all as natural centers and JT Compher and Tyson Jost not far off.
Its CO's strongest position from an organizational standpoint.
CO and EDM are simply a bad match trade wise.

I agree. I think both sides agree Nuge for Barrie straight up is fair value or roughly fair value.
But COL has good depth at centre, especially with Jost coming up down the road as well (love Jost by the way, great pick. I have him over Keller).
Barrie would be a great addition, I'd strongly consider Nuge 1 for 1 but having our 3 headed attack with McDavid, Nuge, and Drai down the middle is a strength and it would be tough to lose Nuge because he's so good defensively and faces top defensive match ups.

Oilers are not trading Nurse unless there is over payment by the other team... basically Nurse+pick/prospect for a true top pairing D who can score . I am completely realistic in knowing that no one is going to offer that for Nurse, so there is no trade to be made. Oilers will be just fine keeping Nurse.

A realistic trade is not the Avs trading their second best defensman, the most valuable position in the league and something they need, for a one dimensional scoring winger. That is called Oiler fan fantasy.

Not very realistic for the Avs. Why would they trade one of their top 2 defensemen a position they need more of for a winger. Defensemen hold far far more value than wingers across the league.

Hopkins for Barrie would make some sense, but no way on earth does it make sense for Edmonton to trade Nurse.

a lot has changed in Oily land since the summer. the Oiler defense is playing quite well including Nurse who's developing into something pretty good before our eyes. it doesn't seem like such an urgency anymore to get Barrie.
