Skinner… preferential treatment…Knob is doing the same to Perry, Henrique and even Hyman. Not sure why Skinner should preferential treatment. You produce you stay.

Kane is turning 34 soon. Holloway is a prospect with immense upside and so of course a team could get many more years out of him. Kane won't even be playing in a year or two and we don't know what the current version would even look like post multiple injuries.
I think it is because Pods is on the reclamation contract here. he's a guy here busting his chops because sometimes a change of scenery needed to force desperation. The same player wasn't getting much done in Vancouver. Its a surpise to me because I didn't see this nature of play from Pods in vAncouver and maybe its the man strength groing into him as most of his time in NHL in Van was rookie season, vs now being a few years older.
We gave away Puljujaarvi who also more or less played the right way but never evolved into what we were hoping he would become offensively. Even on HFPittsburgh they like what he brings and are surprised he was scratched and waived. All the Vancouver fan reports I read on the player described him exactly how he has played for us. An incredibly hard worker with an intelligent defensive game. They questioned if he would ever break out offensively. Podkolzin has played this way for a while.
It is possible he would be. The big contract increases were a death knell for both JP and Yamamoto. Neither player was a long term top six player. Of the two I think JP had the best chance to become an effective bottom six player in the Oiler system. That said I think that Podkolzin has much better hockey IQ than JP. I think this is something that allows him to play higher up the food chain. We gave away Puljujaarvi who also more or less played the right way but never evolved into what we were hoping he would become offensively. I wonder if Puljujaarvi were making $1m (and didn't have a dick for an agent) he might still be a defensive depth staple for us like Janmark and Brown.
Emberson, Podz, and Kapanen. All very good pickups and Bowman deserves credit. Holloway - miss. But I did like the Fischer add, could help the D in the future.Credit where it's due, made a good move in a tough spot, Stan gets credit here, no doubt.

Knob is moving guys up and down the lineup, aside from the few core guys. Skinner earned some icetime with McDavid and Draisaitl in recent games too. Just because someone starts on a certain line, doesn't mean they always stay there, and it doesn't mean they won't get moved back up. Sometimes, the guys who are playing better deserve the chance to be bumped up, and the ones who are playing a bit worse need to be bumped down. Skinner has played well in the bottom six, he will likely get a shot higher in the lineup sooner than later.Isn't that what Knob is doing to Skinner tho
I'm not so sure about that. We shouldn't expect Kane to hit the ground running after being off the ice for basically the entire season. He's also starting have injury issues. You won't miss Holloway once Kane returns

Adds are easier to integrate if you already have a working system.Podkolzin and Kapanen have been decent cheap addition that came free of cost in terms of assets. The Oilers have been better lately at acquiring such utility players. Podkolzin playing well somewhat compensates losing Holloway.
Podz is similar to Pool. But without the learning disability. We gave away Puljujaarvi who also more or less played the right way but never evolved into what we were hoping he would become offensively. Even on HFPittsburgh they like what he brings and are surprised he was scratched and waived.

In Boston they call that "Re-TAH-ded"Podz is similar to Pool. But without the learning disability.
Lol they do, and one of funnier accents out there. But I’m trying to avoid infraction….In Boston they call that "Re-TAH-ded"
We need an above average goalie more than we need Holloway. You know who would help us win now? A 23 year old pseudo-power forward on pace for nearly 30 goals and 60 points. Instead we have Jeff Skinner and Adam Henrique.
I’m dead.In Boston they call that "Re-TAH-ded"
I thought you couldn't say that wordIn Boston they call that "Re-TAH-ded"
Holloway wasn't Bowman's miss though. The blocks were already in place and fates determined with very little room in cap space. He would have had to move out one of the guys that Jackson just signed earlier to make it happen, and that would have been a very bad look.Emberson, Podz, and Kapanen. it's true. That's what teams like Detroit and Pittsburgh were known for in their heyday, when they would take middling players like Kunitz, J.Schulz, or Honrnquist and turn them into contributors on cup-winning teams.Adds are easier to integrate if you already have a working system.
I don’t know, with Ceci moved and Kane on IR, they had time to match and figure it out.Holloway wasn't Bowman's miss though. It sure would be nice if Skinner was more consistent. He's playing well right now, but if he were to fall into the same play as he has to start the year once again, it could be...well, a repeat of last year's playoffs. We need an above average goalie more than we need Holloway.
I will believe that there is nothing they could have done about Broberg. That salary St. Louis gave him - there was nothing we could do to match that one. Bowman actively chose to not keep Holloway though. We had time to find space to keep him.Holloway wasn't Bowman's miss though. I think this has been covered repeatedly. They created enough space to be able to match both if they wanted to and that was reflected in the fact that STL added a pick and prospect to ensure we didn’t match. It wasn’t a lack of cap space thing, it was a didn’t want a guy on the team who didn’t want to be on the team thing, that’s it.It sure would be nice if Skinner was more consistent.
