Resting-Asshole-Face Dick Talk-shit (Tocchet, for those that aren't able to parse my nonsense haha) probably had him too scared to make any plays. The coach's doghouse is a real and tangible thing. Part of why I don't mind taking flyers on reclamation projects with high pedigree. You never know. Wahlstrom could be another one (I don't think he's a player but might need a second opinion).

Based on what I heard from @Canucks LB it sounded like Tocchet punished/benched guys for taking offensive chances and really preached defence first. Reminds me of when Woody benched Holloway after that bad giveaway. Which is kind of ironic because the scouting reporting coming here was that Podkolzin was good defensively but couldn't contribute offensively. I don't get why he wouldn't have been a Tocchet kind of guy.

I swear if Tocchet didn't pick out a Scapegoat and Punching Bag on his roster every couple months, he'd lose complete control of his room. Dude's a f***in fraud.

Isn't that what Knob is doing to Skinner tho
No. I think there's logic to playing him on Line 3. He likes the puck, and it doesn't quite work with Drai who also likes the Puck.

Skinner himself has been slow adapting to the Oilers system. He holds onto pucks too long and doesn't work within our pass happy, quick puck moving system. He needs to integrate better and be less of a cowboy. But that's coming along now though.

I was thinking about it, just now, so I may be wrong, this is the player people liked to pretend Josh Archibald was.

This is what a player with no quit and can play hockey looks like.

Team is defining itself with around a month pf mostly airtight performances. Seems to me that KK and Coffey doing maestro work in the room and that things are pretty much working out. Skinner needs to play the right way and has showed some signs of willingness to do that. Puttting pressure on him being 200ft better is good for him, and the team. Still, that said, Ryan shouldn't be playing.

Podkolzin and Kapanen have been decent cheap addition that came free of cost in terms of assets. The Oilers have been better lately at acquiring such utility players. Podkolzin playing well somewhat compensates losing Holloway.

You won't miss Holloway once Kane returns
Kane is turning 34 soon. Holloway is a prospect with immense upside and so of course a team could get many more years out of him. Kane won't even be playing in a year or two and we don't know what the current version would even look like post multiple injuries.

The 2 way and physical side has been a pleasant surprise, Offensive starting to come as well, but does not cheat defensively to create his offense…
I think it is because Pods is on the reclamation contract here. he's a guy here busting his chops because sometimes a change of scenery needed to force desperation. The same player wasn't getting much done in Vancouver. Its a surpise to me because I didn't see this nature of play from Pods in vAncouver and maybe its the man strength groing into him as most of his time in NHL in Van was rookie season, vs now being a few years older.

When Kane was healthy and joined the Oilers he had 13 goals in 15 playoff games. He's absolutely the better player for a team trying to win now.

We are in a win now mode and also when McDavid and Drai go on a dry spell I trust Kane showing up more than Holloway would. It doesn’t matter what happens in 2 years as Savoie would fill that need for us

You know who would help us win now? A 23 year old pseudo-power forward on pace for nearly 30 goals and 60 points. Instead we have Jeff Skinner and Adam Henrique.

I think its pretty amazing how consistent his game is. Pretty much from preseason through half a season, pretty much get the same game from him. He plays hard. Doesn’t cheat for offense.

Not much offense but he has some games where he gets a few bounces.

I wonder how many bad games hes had this year. Not many I don’t think.
