Hope he turns it around and becomes a star now.

I hope he sits at 14 goals heading into the 82nd game of the season and in that game he has an open net but opts to pass it.

And then I hope he becomes a star in 2017-18. :)

What do the Blues look like on wing? I feel like they're loaded and one of the younger guys like Rattie or Jaskin are on the outs, but maybe I'm wrong. :dunno:

Schwartz - Lehterä - Tarasenko
Fabbri - Stastny - Yakupov
Steen - Berglund - Perron
Upshall - Brodziak - Reaves
Jaškin/Rattie

Schwartz is injured to start the season, and there will undoubtedly be plenty of other injuries as the season goes along. Despite the fact I expect to see Yakupov on the second line, I'd also imagine he gets the least ice time of the top 9.

Wouldn't be surprised if Jaškin plays instead of Reaves if the top 9 is healthy and he moves up and down the lineup depending on who is player poorly.

Yakupov got outplayed in camp by other players. What do you want the Oilers to do?

Keep playing him until his value increases, obviously. Not that they haven't been trying to do that for the last 2 seasons. Whats the definition of insanity again?

I hope Nail finds his game in St. Louis. I am a big Oilers fan, but I'm also a big fan of Yak. He's got tons of passion, and I think he's just one good stretch away from finding his stride. He must have taken 10 shots last night, and some of them were straight cannons, just couldn't put it in the net.

Hope in 1 hand and poop in the other see which one fills up first. Yea us Oiler fans didn't want him to become a star right lol?
We drafted the bpa but we always hated him and hoped he would never develop basic hockey sense and the maturity to be an elite NHL'er.
It was time to cut ties, what was Charelli supposed to acquire to satisfy you?

Hard to blame this on Chiarelli IMO and I've been very critical of the Hall trade.
Yak just wasn't improving even under a good coach like MCLellan. He was a first overall pick back in 2012 but that's irrelevant to his current value. He's an 11 goal scorer that can't play defense.
Maybe he'll do better in the St. Louis system but he wasn't improving in Edmonton and they need to move on.

Not sure if serious?

Oilers finished 2014-2015 season 3rd last. Oilers finished 2015-2016 season 2nd last. Improvement how? Oh right better odds at the 1st overall pick since thats what constitutes winning for the Oilers, except they did better in 2015's lottery than 2016's with worse odds.

-8 point improvement
-7 win improvement
- +43 improvement in goal differential
-48 less goals against

As tough as the central is. I would not doubt Yaki goes in there and improves the Blues. He has a change of scenery is now surrounded by bonified NHL'ers not just potential AND McDavid.

On the otherhand, this board get massive stars for getting the value in the ballpark.

Yak for 2nd or 3rd has been the tune all summer.

I'm so glad Chia pulled the trigger on this move. Yak literally did not fit anywhere in the lineup. Versteeg even heavily outplayed him.

I hope he finds success with the Blues but I'm confident that he'll be in the KHL for the 17/18 season.

Yes I also noticed this...his shot has crazy velocity on it. If he can figure that out and get open look out. Always interesting to see a player get a change of scenery.

If you had to pick a coach/system that would be the worst fit for Yakupov to go to in the league and you had to only list 2 teams/coaches, I would bet 90% of the people would have said the Blues/Hitchcock

I know Armstrong is trying to find a diamond in the rough after what was a pretty rough offseason for the Blues, but this smells of a trade that Armstrong just ignored the kind of players his coach wants and the style of hockey they play

Congratulations you sucked so much a year before that even an improvement drops you further down the standings when there was only 2 spots further down to go to begin with LOL. Great improvement there! Goes to show those don't matter compared to you know ACTUAL standings. But go on, do tell me how they improved but managed to move further down the only thing that matters in the regular season.

Thats some real kool-aid y'all must be drinking.

Chia to fans: look we did finish worse compared to last year in the standings, but we improved compared to ourselves the year prior... progress guys I told you we'd improve! Don't worry next year we will improve on ourselves again and finish dead last, but again improvement guys!

  • In my opinion Yak didn't fit with what McLellan/Chia wanted going forward
  • Rumor has it there were trade requests
  • There are several wingers in training camp that looked as good or better than Yak

There's obviously something within the locker-room that we're not privy to, but Pitlick/Versteeg worry me with their injury likelihood. Nail was a good insurance policy IMO.

I'm really hoping Pitlick can take this opportunity and run with it.

Its Hitchcocks last year. Surely Armstrong can't build the team around a coach who will only be here for one more season.
