He'll get a look with Nurse, but I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up with Bouchard

Nurse-Kulak
Walman-Bouchard
Ekholm-Emberson

Let's you put Nurse with Kulak, and gives Ekholm and Bouchard better skating partners.
Walman apparently plays big minutes on San Jose, but he's probably a bottom pairing d-men on elite teams. We'll see what he actually can do.

Yikes. Good digging. I said it before, but Bowman being away from the NHL so long really hurt his mental database of current player ability and goings on. He seems to be operating on years-old information. (See: Klingberg, John)

Now, the safety net for that would be this kind of stuff normally being shared between friendly colleagues, but there again the Chicago scandal made him a pariah and put a stain on the GM community as a whole. I highly doubt he has many strong relationships with other teams.

When you put those two things together, I would bet money Bowman had no idea any of that stuff happened, and he only went off some nice stats that were juiced by an early season heater. This is to say nothing of the bizarre fit that is yet another lefty, and yet another defensively suspect defenseman. Strange business all the way around when there were a dozen other ways to actually help our blueline.
Man you're really childish when it comes to Bowman.

Bowman not being a GM doesn't mean he stopped watching hockey. The Oilers have scouts

It was admitted THEY took a shot on Klingberg. THEY monitored his skating and progress and used a free slot to see what he had. It didn't affect the TDL whatsoever

It was admitted that THEY have been scouting Walman for a long time and THEY went to several games

You making it seem like he and he alone is going to outdated hockey sites from his office to make sole decisions is one of the dumbest attempts I have seen claimed on this board

What is childish about assuming a man who was not involved in his profession for literally years is lacking critical current info?

Bowman not being a GM doesn't mean he stopped watching hockey. The Oilers have scouts

The Oilers have the second least amount of scouts in the league, and only one of them was even working in the NHL when Klingberg last played.

It did, because it was cap space we couldn’t use. He also hasn’t lived up to whatever our esteemed talent evaluators saw. It’s a double failure.

Watching the player on ice does not equal having a line into the dressing room.

He is operating as if that’s exactly the case. What Bowman decision has resulted in the team acquiring a difference maker?

When Wayne Gretzky wasn't involved w/ an org do you think everyone stopped talking to him and he lost touch with the hockey world?

How many GM's get fired and find work over a year later? So I guess ONLY BOWMAN lost touch with hockey tho?

No, it wasn't cap space lost. It was a burialable contract if they wanted

You do realize NO GMs in the NHL have a line to our dressing room, or any other? You make it seem like GMs other than Bowman can infiltrate any other team if they want. Get real

He got Emberson, who's been fantastic in his role. Podz is meh. Klingberg has actually been ok

We have yet to see his other moves play out, or do you not actually realized they haven't played yet? Like I said, childish

I'm old school. Its not for me. Thing is and I've looked around a bit its still the case teams HATE this sort of thing. Act up like that after scoring a goal and teams pencil your name down for punishment upcoming. Couple games I saw video of teams were taking runs at Walman for just the reason of the goal cellies being what they are.

...
Most teams especially Oilers don't retaliate for anything let alone some guy dancing around.
Podz was beaten and attempt to cave in his head and the team (and refs) did absolutely nothing.
Bunch of little girls and refs don't care.

That really pissed me off. I'm ancient and would have attacked the guy. Embarassing being a fan.

Oh boy, one poster has decided, for nebulous reasons, to hate an incoming player and is already posting pretty non-stop about it on here about how bad a person the player is. Which means that he has found his new whipping boy and will talk shit about him constantly the entire time he's an Oiler, regardless of how he plays.

Read today that we were deep in contract extension talks with rantanen, but how could we have afforded 12+ million lol?

I feel like it would be impossible to offer that contract unless we knew what McDavid's cap hit will look like, and were willing to trade Bouchard.

I think Bowman is gonna shed some cap either way. Nuge is declining and might be hard to move soon. Kane could too if he doesn’t look like a 5mil player when he comes back. Nurse is alright but not a 9.25mil dman, I could see Bowman trying to move on from him.

Bouchard probably stays unless he prices himself out. At his peak he was so good and he’s still young; but he can’t play all situations and might want too much.

Bowman didn’t sign any of these guys, he’s got fresh eyes and probably wants to get some cap space and also get a little younger.

Would have taken some finessing in the off-season for sure.

If you could have signed him to $13M, Bouchard for $9-9.5M and traded away Arvidsson, Kane and Kulak without cap coming back you probably could have gotten it done while running a 20 player roster.

Great pass/assist to Hyman, some good shots on goal, a big open ice hit, lots and lots to like about his debut tonight.

He looked like a top pairing D tonight (fancies backed that up too). Probably settles in as a 2nd pairing guy but if he can play at this level here or there, an absolute home run.

Dude is really f***ing good.
