Shesterkin turned down eight years @ $11 Million AAV from the Rangers. He isn't signing in Edmonton for less.

Also Schaefer was traded already.
Shesty wants glory on top of $$$
In my over the top offer to LA, we sign him 12.2 x 5 and eat 2m per, so effectively 10.2 by receiving team.

Howev, that was for Byfield
Oil package seems it can only be late 1sts as a core, +
not enuf

I don't know if Byfield is available for a goalie, Bern. I guess I can't be 100% sure of that as I am not a Kings fan, but to an outside observer their core is getting old and Byfield is part of a very good group of young players establishing themselves.

an elite vez guy is not just "a goalie"
but that said
it is not just Igor
it is Igor + KAM + acquired Nemec for Byfield + picks
2 young D + elite G entering his prime warrant top young C

Shesterkin sign 14 Million x 5 with the Oilers and Oilers knock out Avalanche or Stars or Jets in playoff semi?

He won't sigh for less than the max term, at least that is my understanding.

Big risk signing a goalie long term for max dollars.

I would rather get Shesterkin for a cup run, win it, and let him walk in free agency.

Not giving up 4 picks for a UFA goalie that we have zero hope of extending due to our cap situation.

Huge risk. Huge. However... if it brings the Oilers a Cup wouldn't you do it?

Shesterkin walks in free agency, again a huge risk for Edmonton. But if they just won wouldn't other players want to come here even more than they do now?

Op is going to get cooked for this. Cmon man be better.

1st 26
2nd 26
1st 27
Stu Skinner
Sam O'Reilly (draft pick this year )
Victor Arvidsson
Future considerations

Let's gettir done !

The only guy who 'cooked' over this was the fella who said "Maybe I'd do it for Draisaitl" if that tells you anything.

His leverage is disappearing before his eyes. You can say NYR have been bad and thats true, but after turning down the money, he's hasn't had that same performance that can demand top money like that. I think his ask will have to come down if he wants a long term contract. I can't see anybody going in on that 11.6 or whatever value.

If Edmonton offered this I’d take it and run. The Rangers cannot afford to re-sign Igor, not because of the cap necessarily but because it would signal this team is content with mediocrity for the foreseeable future.

I mean, realistically no one would trade that much for him, but to even talk about it on HF you have to start with an overpay and go from there. Otherwise it's just a flame-fest.

I hadn't realized Shesterkin had struggled this season. The Rangers are in a playoff position (just barely) and it was my understanding goaltending was a big reason why.

I agree, no team is offering multiple 1sts for a rental.

As far as the goaltending, overall it is the only reason why the rangers are near a playoff spot right now, but Igor has struggled for a few weeks. Even so he still has a game like against the Flyers where the Rangers should have given up 7 or 8 goals and he held it at 2.

Shesterkin is amazing, and we certainly need an upgrade in net, but we can't afford that big of an upgrade. The cap doesn't allow for three stars of this caliber to be locked up on the same team like that. For this to be worthwhile for Edmonton, even if it was plausible, we would need to be able to sign Shesterkin long term, to a salary that isn't going to cripple the team in the short AND long term. I just don't see a plausible way for this to happen, and the only possible way would be to include Darnell Nurse and Stuart Skinner to the Rangers with no extra cap coming back, and we all know that isn't going to happen for numerous reasons.

Didn't realize Shesterkin was UFA after this season. In that case take out 1 First rounder and throw in Kane along with Arvidsson. With Jeff Skinner off the books, and cap going up. Easily be able to afford Shesterkin and another low cost fast winger.

I have to disagree with you. Bouchard is up for a new contract and I don't think that'll be cheap. Draisaitl's new contract kicks in. The year after McDavid will get signed to an unknown but likely league-leading contract.

I can't see how the Oilers can sign Shesterkin for $11.5-12.5 Million or whatever he is asking. The cap is going up, but not that much.

There is also an undeniable risk of signing a Goaltender to a long term, lucrative contract. Remember DePietro?

Igor would be a rental in Edmonton even if they plan to trade away Bouchard for a 5M per replacement. There just is no cap room.

It's closer to only one 1st, and one 2nd, + prospect, cap player.
The other 1st and 2nd is way too much without some agreement on a deal they can afford.

I would not be willing to give up a ton for a rental goalie that has high salary demands like that. He is not a fit for the Oilers. A more realistic type of goalie move for the Oilers would be to get someone like Jonathan Quick for the playoff run. He is playing great, has won Cups, and has a low cap hit.

Pretty sure Shesterkin gets you to at least game 7 of the cup finals. Pretty much like getting Chris Pronger. Call it an investment to make sure McDavid doesn't bounce. Kinda wild he doesn't have an extension yet.

Also a wild assertation from an individual whose handle is Cup or Bust

The Oilers would be better off spending that cap money and assets on a defenseman rather then goaltending.

That's totally fair. EDM goaltending is a leaky bucket. It still holds water. The defense has a lot more areas to improve but it will cost just as much if not more to plug all the holes.
I think one solid right shot d-man and they will be fine. Their team defense isn't actually bad. They just need a solid goalie, he doesn't have to be elite. In a perfect world if they could somehow open up enough cap space to add an elite goalie and a d-man that would be great, but I am not sure if that is realistic. I am not a fan of Skinner so I do agree that the Oilers should at the very least add a goalie to support Skinner and even have the ability to carry the load for a stretch if needed, that is why someone like Quick might be more a more realistic option. Trust me, I would love the Oilers to get an elite goalie and move on from Skinner.

I would like to see them get both a mid pairing RHD and an upgrade in goal, but one imaginary deal at a time, fellas.

This should be a fun one.

The Oilers need an upgrade in goal. The Rangers are looking to make changes to their line up and based on salary demands it seems like Shesterkin could be moved before the trade deadline. So do the Oilers really go for the Cup this year and make a massive deal for a pure rental?

:edmonton

Igor Shesterkin 28, (G) $5.66 Million pending UFA. No retention. No extension.

:rangers

Oilers 1st round pick either 2025/26 whichever isn't moved to Philly
Oilers 1st round pick 2027
Oilers 2nd round pick 2025
Oilers 2nd round pick 2026

Stu Skinner 26 (G) $2.6 Million expires end of next season
Jeff Skinner 32 C/W $3.0 Million pending UFA

This makes the trade more or less cap neutral.

Historically Goaltenders don't go for this kind of haul, *especially* rentals. However Shesterkin is arguably the best in the league and his stellar play has covered some serious defensive shortcomings on the Rangers roster. Sounds exactly like what the Oilers need.

This could win them the Cup.

In the off season Shesterkin wants to sign for more than the eye-watering eight year, $88 Million dollar contract offered by New York. The Oilers have no chance to match that. Who knows, maybe becoming a Stanley Cup winner is the feather in his cap he needs to get the number he wants. Maybe that number comes from the Rangers who sign him as a free agent in the summer AND get the draft capital above.

Stu Skinner is added because the Oilers have to make some room under the cap and someone has to share duties with Quick. Jeff Skinner is also added for the same cap reason and his contract expires at the end of the year. Not a painful add for the Rangers to take on.

LOL --OIlers should be all over it. Love the fact they are trading 4 top assets for a player who WONT be back on the team after July 1st 2025

The question isn’t what Sheshterkin is worth.

The question is what’s 3 months of Sheshterkin worth. Keeps the prices here in perspective.
