It’s not a bad deal for either side except for the cap concerns. The Oilers can’t afford a long-term cap hit right now for basically a one dimensional player.

It could turn into having Lucic’s contract all over again. They’ll have much better options as the season goes. There’s a reason Montreal fans are so willing to dump that contract for a 2nd rounder and Puljujarvi.

The other thing? The Montreal media and fan base would eat Puljujarvi alive. His first tantrum not playing in the top 6 won’t go over well, and they’ll never allow him to forget it.

Anderson has too many years at 5.5

Pass. Anderson is the kind of player teams search for. Puljujarvi isn’t interesting in the least.

Puljujarvi and a second round pick doesn't move the needle to acquire Anderson. Anderson has a unique blend of size and skills that the Habs need in their forward group. Habs would get a premium offer from a contender for someone with his skillset as mentioned last season when he was in very high demand.

If the Oilers want Anderson, they'd have to start with offering something that would truly hurt them to move -
One of Holloway/Bourgeault or their first round pick in 2023 would be the first piece, their 2nd round pick in 2023 and either Yamamoto or Foegele as a cap dump coming back.

Anderson has value. Puljujarvi really doesn't, other than a potential reclamation project, and the Habs don't need to do the Oilers any favours if they want to acquire another power forward on a long term deal.

Montreat should get out of that contract if they can.

Red rover red rover send Anderson over!

No chance habs consider this.
Anderson >>>> Puljujarvi and his cap hit isn't an issue whatsoever for the habs

It has also been reported that there's a lot of teams interested in Anderson, so clearly he has good value.

Anderson is a good player to have come playoffs as well. Big body that Hits hard, has speed, and will pop in some goals.

Pool does not really do anything for Montreal. This proposal would need to be adjusted.

Does Edmonton like that Anderson contract? If not, this trade is an absolute disaster for them.

I don't really like it from either end.

Edmonton can't afford to take on that contract. But i don't really see what Montreal are getting out of this. There's not "change of scenery" improvement for Puljujarvi. He is what he is. A frustrating player, and a worse version of Josh Anderson...who does what you actually wish Puljujarvi offered. A 2nd rounder doesn't really swing it for me.

Despite the prevailing attitude that Josh Anderson's contract is "negative value", i'd wager around the league, there are a lot of teams that would give up something pretty solid to have his awful contract playing on their team. Those sort of true "power forwards" are very rare, and very coveted. If the Habs sell off Anderson, they could find a better deal than this somewhere. That 2nd is the only real "value" to them there. They don't need a middling and somewhat expensive frustrating winger like Puljujarvi.

Won't happen.

My next year's second line is....

It's HF, where Hab players are worth nothing.

Anderson is going nowhere. He's young enough to join the rising tide.

Is Edmundson back? Right now we need a top 4 defenseman that can play a physical game and make other players think twice about hanging out around our net.

Pass. Anderson needs retention that contract is too long. Any LTIR need to be put towards fitting in a 2nd pairing LD.

If Montreal wants to talk retention we can discuss Anderson for sure he’d be a good fit

No interest in Puljujarvi. Let alone having to retain.

You won’t move him without retaining. Puljujarvi in the deal or not, if Anderson doesn’t come with retention no contender is taking him 5.5x5

Sure you can ride out the contract and Montreal doesn’t need cap space but why not find a way to weaponize cap space. Anderson retained goes from unmovable to a valuable trade asset.

Either way I don’t care. I’d rather waive Puljujarvi than add a pick for Anderson’s full contract.

Anderson has a place on Montreal’s roster. Especially with a couple smaller guys like Suzuki and Caufield in the lineup. Moving him for an underwhelming return makes zero sense. Especially if they need to retain.

It would be closer to making sense if the Oilers paid significantly more to have Anderson's contract retained. And then I'm still not sure it makes sense.

But they have no way of fitting Anderson's deal in past this year.
