The Klingberg I remember from his past few years in the league was beyond awful in his own zone. How much of that was due to his health, I guess we will find out. If the deal is the reported 1.7M cap hit this year, that is higher than I'd like for what is really a hope and pray deal. On the other hand I applaud Bowman for not leaving any stone unturned in trying to make us better.
Solid low risk test-drive on a veteran player with extensive NHL second pair experience. Can he play at that level missing more than a year with a significant rare surgery to correct his injury? All likelihood is no. But if he can provide NHL depth 3RD/7th defenseman with his experience, length, and puck moving/processing ability it helps to improve this team's bonafide NHL depth.
Highly doubt this stops the Oilers from targeting a significant defensive upgrade.
Credit to Bowman who has picked over waivers for a former 1st round pedigree Kapinen, a project early prime years d-man Regula, and now a dice roll on a mystery box with a real good runway of NHL experience. This is Go Year. They will be pursuing all avenues big and small to upgrade this prime window team. So why not throw another Klingberg on the fire.
He’s a good, playoff experienced depth to add on the back end.
I don’t think people realize how much hockey the team’s played thus far. Having extra bodies will be beneficial for another deep playoff run. He doesn’t have to be anything special, he just needs to be reliable and dependable, and move the puck up ice. Anything more is just gravy. Just pretend he’s the right shot Broberg!
Canucks are dying for a puck mover from the blue line. I’m wondering if they’re desperate enough to pick up TDA now that we signed Klingberg lol
