Ottawa
Leafs throw aways become better when they join the Oilers.

See Ceci who is actually somewhat of a reliable D now

See Hyman who put up 11 goals and 16 points in 16 playoff games

See Barrie who is a valuable offensive defenceman

Now watch Campbell play better than he ever did with the Leafs.

Another positive to this, is this shows Mcdavid and Draisaitl and the rest of the organization Oilers are all in. This is a big psychological boost. To not get a Goalie would have been a step back. 5m is fine, If the Oilers are contending for the next 3 years. A 5 year term is meaningless.

I have no idea what Matthews scoring 60 has to do with Murray putting up 80s-like numbers in net?

2 years of a worse player is still 2 years of a worse player.
Except he is not worse. Campbell is awful. Five million for that. Lmao. 2 years with a chance of bouncing back >>>>>five years of Campbell AINEC

That seems like both too much and too long.
It is and it's AWESOME!!!

Many of which are former Leafs, and who helped the Oil make Conference Finals. Thanks for that!

Except Matthews has the chance to bolt first. Tick tock!
Which he won't. I can't wait till the extension. The meltdown will be just as yummy as the Hart/Lindsay.. hahaha

I think Mike Smith is throwing a temper tantrum right now wherever he is. No doubt he’s pissed to be likely put on waivers coming soon.

Enjoying this Oilers vs Leafs fan base jousting but in all seriousness - good on EDM for at least optically staying competitive. Idk what the hell TOR is doing with their goalie carousel. Its embarrassing.

The Leafs could sign a UFA Crosby in his prime for 8 years at $750k per, and the HFboards faithful would still salt and trash the signing.

I expect no less from the cesspool that is HF's most intelligent hockey minds.

And meanwhile Edmonton keeps loading up their long-term cap situation with average players while the Leafs are keeping things pristine for whatever comes!

Oilers have McDavid and Draisaitl in their prime under contract. What is better wasting their primary years or going for it? Extra term doesn’t hurt them now. Wasting prime years of 2 superstars does.

Seeing the deal for Campbell, I'd rather take the risk on Murray with Samsonov as backup. 5 years for Jack?!??? Yeah no thanks. At least with Murray and Samonov if they don't work out you can move on from them easily.

Or LTIR as has already been reported.

Happy Jack got his pay day, don’t like the term / money. Hopefully you guys get November / December Jack vs the rest of last year Jack. Should be an upgrade for the oilers either way. Seems like a genuinely good dude though.

Campbell is an upgrade as long as you don’t play him more than 60 games. He breaks down if he overplays. Oilers still need a strong backup who can play 20
+ games and put in some wins.

Edmonton is not an easy place for goalies to play in. Just hope Campbell doesn’t get the Cam Talbot treatment after he puts in a strong year then struggles the next.

1 year ago we sat here being laughed at for putting our faith in a goalie to be our starter during a win now season who didn't have any seasons as a starting goalie and was injury prone.

We sit here now, being laughed at for not giving this same goalie 5M over 5 years, after playing 49 games, being injured several times, and giving widely inconsistent results.

If it wasn't the Leafs he was leaving, people would be seeing this contract for what it is. A guy who is an elite backup, too inconsistent to be a starter, who has injury problems. I predict this becomes the next Kosk type deal for the Oilers.

Skinner should be able to handle that, put up decent numbers when called upon this year. Has been one of the better goalies in the AHL last couple of years.
